This is the one thing that I see that if it goes on could drive wedge between us. When my gf starts telling a story and I drift off into sleep after 30mins she takes it as meaning that I don't care about her. Everytime this has happened before I simply appologized and promised to listen better. But the thing is...no matter how long I listen...the story gets longer. So today I tried saying: "babe, I do care about what happens in your life, but you have to find a way to shorten these stories...or else this will keep happening." I have been with my boyfriend (26) for five years but I have been having this problem with his sister (16) as well. Although, my relationship with his sister in the beginning (the first months when me and my bf were dating) was going along very well. Until, she realize that i was getting too serious with her brother that she started to act indifferently towards me. I'm 35, my boyfriend of 9 months is 33. He has known how I felt about him long ago, I told him because it was the right moment, and didn't want there to be any expectations. To summarize, I had a verbally/emotionally abusive ex. As soon as he got mad, he would attack different aspects of myself, my interests, and my life. For example, he would criticize and made fun of some of my really big accomplishments (like academic work) or make fun of my age (I'm 6 years younger than him) and he constantly called my friends, roommates, and some of my family terrible names (racially, sexually, etc.). It was hard for me to get out of this relationship...mainly because he had the ability to completely tear me down and make me hate myself, and then call me the next day apologizing and saying that he loved me. I always forgave him, mainly because I was vulnerable and sad and lonely, but was met with the same pattern. I broke up with him a week ago and I've been doing a good job of staying out of contact with him. He, however, has been calling/texting me every day telling me he loves me. He called me today and I answered and once I told him I didn't want to talk to him, he went back to his same pattern and started degrading me. Obviously I hate him and will never get back with him, however his dad has been working really hard to get a good deal/find me a new car. The one I'm driving now isn't going to make it much longer. I have no idea about this process and need his dad's help (his dad has no idea we broke up). Would I be a terrible person if I became on good terms with this horrible ex? For the car, of course, but also just to be on good terms overall.
