Ok been together with my husband for 12 years and it has been a roller coaster anyways. Today my husband is finally going back to college to complete his Associates Degree, which is something he's been wanting to complete for the longest time i can remember. Aside from that he has a bad addiction problem with cigarettes and energy drinks he spends about $20 a day to buy these things and everytime he doesn't have cigarettes and energy drink he gets mad at me and starts a big argument like today. Married for 1 1/2 years, he's military. So when we moved away from my hometown of course I had to quit my job and it we went down to one income until I finally was able to get a job again, well now he's overseas for 6 more months and I moved back to my hometown about a month ago and now Im debating If I need to get a job or get some school done so I can have a real job when we get back. My husband is overspending REALLY bad. We moved out of our rental and in with my dad in May to save up for a downpayment on a house. The plan from Day 1 was to pay off our credit cards and then build up a savings. We were planning to take what we spend on rent every month and apply it to CC balances and then when they are paid off, put that same amount in a savings account until we had a downpayment. What I have been doing is paying all of our bills and then leaving $400/week for things like gas, food, and entertainment. I am a SAHM with a 15-month-old and another due in 8 weeks. So far, we've only paid about $2500 on one credit card, when one card should be at zero right now if we stuck to our plan. But my husband is overspending. BAD. I notice a lot of liquor store transactions. I added up all liquor store debits from 7-3 to 8-3 and it was over $700. He's spending money on beer, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and weed. When I added it up, I was floored. I told him he needed to budget again, and he got defensive and basically said that since he's the one working he can spend as much as he wants. I can't seem to get through to him that he needs to control his spending. I literally go NOWHERE and spend NO MONEY EVER. He says he's the only one who works so he can spend whatever he wants, but this isn't helping us reach our goals, and we have kids now. How do I stop this? What can I say to make him realize? We had $12 left; he spent $2 and then used the CREDIT CARD for $26. Help. Is there anyone out there who can give me some dialogue? I am not trying to, but I seem to be coming off accusatory and it's getting me nowhere. He's already made an $18 transaction today at Circle K.
