Question: Wedding in NYC for 20 guests? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 10:13 PM PDT Hey , My fiance and I want to get marry in NYC since its an important part of our relationship ( first date, we got engaged in empire state building etc) we want something small therefore only plan on having 20-25 people. We would like a restaurant or private room that has a garden or space for small ceremony but mainly good food. We have a very tight budget since we just purchased our first house. I want to spend no more than $100per person. Is that reasonable? Oh and we want to get marry on August 2nd of this year. In desperate help!! Thanks in advance |
Posted: 13 Apr 2015 08:15 PM PDT Originally we had planned on going to an all inclusive resort- but now my fiancé and I had decided we want to cancel our trip (due to the fact it's 3,330 dollars more than we've already paid) and find someone chaper. He's graduated with a masters and I'm still in college. We REALLY don't want to put it on a credit card and start our marriage in debt. We plan to take a nicer honeymoon later. Just now with buying a house, paying for school, and last touches on a wedding- we just want a cheaper honeymoon. I'm calling the agent tomorrow. Is $1,500 reasonable for a little honeymoon (air and hotel) in the US? We would depart from Kansas City, MO. All other expensises (food and activities) would be paid for out of our expensise. Is it possible to find anything (air and hotel) for $1,500? Suggestions please!!! |
Posted: 13 Apr 2015 08:06 PM PDT A woman I know is giving a bridal shower, engagement party, and wedding shower, before the wedding. That is like 4 parties. And they keep asking for us to bring dishes. I feel like if you expect people to bring a dish do we have to bring a gift to? Do you choose one party to bring a gift too? Do you bring a gift or a dish? I m starting to feel like she is just doing this to get as many gifts as possible. She is inviting me to all these parties and asking to bring a dish but I am not even invited to the wedding. Can someone explain this to me? Is this usual. I don t get why she keeps having all these parties if she isn t even inviting a lot of these people to the wedding. I feel like it s her way of getting gifts out of us but not having to pay to have us at the wedding. It is kind of annoying...now. Yes her friend is giving them for her but she is inviting me because they let her choose who comes and she keeps inviting me to these events which ask the guest to bring a dish. But it is weird for me because I am not even invited to the wedding as well as others who are being invited to these events. I would say celebrate with the ones who are actually invited. I feel like it is annoying if you except someone to attend all these pre-wedding partied but you can't even invite them to the wedding. |

Posted: 13 Apr 2015 07:14 PM PDT I'm getting married pretty soon and it's going to be at a courthouse where we have to bring one witness. We want to have the real wedding later on this year. The reason we are marrying now is due to circumstances that is going on and fiance has family in a different country so they won't be able to attend. |
Question: Does every guest get a wedding favor? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 05:47 PM PDT My fiance and I are having the argument of does every guest get a favor or just the out of town guests. He says its just the out of town guests. We were thinking of hangover kits for favors. Some Gatorade, Advil, eye drops, etc. I think every guest should get that. The out of town guests get gift baskets or something along those lines. |
Question: Do I have to be a bridesmaid? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 04:00 PM PDT My cousin is getting married and asked me to be a bridesmaid. I'm thinking about it, but I don't really want to and I don't want to offend her. I always figured that bridesmaids were supposed to be friends/family who are close to you and have shared special times with you. It's a special day and it calls for special people. Although we're cousins, we're not close and we never talk so I find it odd that she asked me to do it. I'm not sure if it's because she doesn't have anyone else or because she feels obligated to include me since I'm family. I know at the end of the day it's my own choice, but do you think I am obligated to do it because we're family? |
Question: What are some cheap places to get married in MA or NH? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 03:49 PM PDT My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married with just both of our families and best friends. We are anticipating 60 people or less. I would like to spend under 50-60 pp. We are not necessarily looking for traditional. I am leaning more towards renting a small room or outdoor bar which is small and intimate. I am open to anything even nice local restaurants. We met in Laconia NH and think that would be special to go back there, both of our homes are right outside of Boston. We will be tying the knot between September of this year and June of next year depending on what we find and what works for us. Any help would be great, thank you. |

Question: Weddings: Am I supposed to be engaged to a guy for him to be my "plus one" ? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 02:04 PM PDT Im going to a wedding in beginning of july. The invitations came this week and it says "(my name) + guest." I have a boyfriend who I really want to bring, but my mom is making me not bring him. She says I need to be engaged to a guy for me to bring him to a wedding for him to be my "plus one" because its the proper way to do it. Is she right? I just want to make sure before I make a stink how she being old-fashioned. She is really old-fashion with these things, so idk if she being old-fashion, or I'm supposed to do it like this still today. Also, since idk which way it supposed to go until I see the answers now, but when I went to a few weddings before in the past, people my age would bring their boyfriends and they werent even getting married to them (not even in the future or any time soon.....unless they brought a long-term boyfriend they had at the time?? idk), so thats why I think it can be just any boyfriend I have and not anyone "special" or "have to be engaged to the guy" for me to bring them to a wedding. |
Posted: 13 Apr 2015 01:59 PM PDT It will be a VERY small wedding. So I don't need any sort of venue. Just a rad tree to get married under. I really don't want to be around a lot of people which I would encounter in a popular public park. Any suggestions of a tree or neat forested area to get married in would be appreciated! |

Question: Do I have to get a bridal shower gift and a wedding gift for my friend? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 12:35 PM PDT I'm not really sure on wedding etiquette, are you supposed to purchase a bridal shower gift and a wedding gift? My friend is getting married and I just want to make sure I know how much I need to save up for her gift(s). |
Question: Should I tell my parents we are eloping? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 12:32 PM PDT To skip all the stress and cost, my fiancé and I decided to elope. I plan on keeping it a secret, but feel I should tell my parents and then plan some kind of luncheon/reception for the family a few weeks later. |

Question: How to quit being a bridesmaid when the wedding is in a month & a half? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 10:53 AM PDT I use to work with this one girl for about 3months. Anyhow one day at work she asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding since things didn't end well with one of her bridesmaids. Well I ended up leaving the job to further my education & I haven't talked to her for about close to 3 months so I assumed I wasn't a bridesmaid anymore. Then she messaged me about the wedding. I should have backed out but I didn't want to be ignorant so I just stuck with it that & I assumed we would actually talk more than what we are now. Well basically to sum it up she never talks to me unless I'm suppose to meet her for something for the wedding. She has already cancelled on me 2 times & it's affected my schooling a bit, among other things. I feel extremely uncomfortable since I don't know any of the bridesmaids, nor the family of the bride, or even the fiancé. I honestly don't know anyone at the wedding except for her. Now the wedding is in a month & a half, & I feel bad cancelling this late. I would have done it sooner but I felt bad & she kept saying we had all these "important" appointments that I never did end up going to. I had tried quitting once to see if she felt the same way & she didn't, she still wants me in the wedding but she doesn't understand how awkward this is. She is also 9yrs older than me & I probably wont keep in touch with her since we are both headed down completely different paths in life. If anyone has any ideas about what I should do that would be great! :) |
Question: Where can I get hair and makeup done in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 10:49 AM PDT My niece is getting married here in July and we are looking for some place for the girls to get hair and makeup done. We are from Kansas and don't know the area at all. |

Question: Small wedding, what to do about parents? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 10:21 AM PDT My fiance and I have decided to say "screw you" to my father's money and are going to do our own thing, for the sake of my gay brother (they've pretty much disowned him and I cannot stand by that). My parents, however, still want to come but do not want to be anywhere near my brother. I do still want my dad to walk me down the aisle, but I just don't know...I'm so conflicted as they have been treating my brother horribly. My future father-in-law, whom I love like my own father, has offered to walk me down. He has no daughters, only three boys and said that he would be honored, as he can't stand what my parents are doing to my brother, either. I do feel like it's a slap in the face to my parents, like, THE final slap if my father can't walk me down, but what they are doing to my brother is shameful. Do I even invite them at all? I'm so confused and tired from wedding planning and now all this family drama on top of it. I'm about to say screw it all and go to a JP. Please, some input would be nice. What would YOU do in my shoes? Ok, let me clarify something. My parents are still trying to bully their way in AND call the shots here. So, they plan on wedding crashing and having my brother thrown out...it's HORRIBLE dealing with them and this... I'm not thinking I'm some kind of super hero here for sticking up for my little brother, but they drag me into it. I can't hit ignore on my phone forever! |
Question: How many balloons to decorate a small gym for a wedding? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 09:19 AM PDT Our wedding reception is in a smaller gymnasium. And we are filling the ceiling with balloons with extra long strings on them so that they kind of hang down really low. (Like in this picture) And I am trying to get an estimate on how many it might take so i can find out if it would be cheaper just to do it all ourselves or to go through someone. So do you think it would take more than 150 balloons or how many do you think?? |
Question: Does moissanite sink in water? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 09:16 AM PDT I just a diamond of 0.3 carat and it costs Rs 19000 nepali currency. Now I want to make sure it is original diamond or moissanite. How do I distinguish diamond from moissanite at home? |
Question: Looking for good ideas for a vow renewal wedding.? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 07:11 AM PDT I am having a vow renewal after 5 years, a couple breakups, and 2 kids later. I know there are lots of haters when it comes to vow renewals but this really is my first wedding. I wore black pants my first time in a courthouse. I am excited to get in front of family and friends and celebrate the new love we found in each other. yes, I will be wearing a wedding dress, yes I will have bridesmaids, and yes it will look just as fancy as any other wedding. I believe no girl should be denied her big day just because of a lousy mistake getting married the way we did. I love this man and I'm excited for my father to finally meet his family, and for our children to be apart of it this time. only serious answers please. One I thought of was me and him walking down the aisle together instead of my father doing it.. |
Question: How to pay for a wedding? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 06:44 AM PDT I am curious how people pay for weddings while in certain situations. My particular situation is that my mom supports my grandmother and literally lives paycheck to paycheck and my father is not in the picture so that's out of the question. I will graduate from college in september of this year. I will have student loans to pay so I don't have $40,000 laying around for a wedding. I want to ask my girlfriend to marry me within the next 1.5 years. Any information or experiences are greatly appreciated. |
Question: How do I fix an uneven altered dress? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 05:22 AM PDT before I start this please do not be mean or give me sarcastic comments. about 5 weeks ago I bought this dress that I really loved for prom and got it altered cutting off 3 inches of the bottom. The dress is double layered and both layers were even when I bought it. When I picked up my dress from the alterations place I noticed that she cut the outside layers 3 inches but the inside layer like 7. The outer layer is see through so you can see the huge difference in length and to make matters worse the inside layer isn't even even. It's super obvious as well you don't even need to focus on it to see the difference. I am so furious with the lady who did it and I'm not sure what to do. Is it possible to resew it back on without it looking even more like a piece of crappy alterations? |
Question: Should I still bring a guest? go alone? or not go at all? Posted: 13 Apr 2015 04:18 AM PDT I was invited to a wedding with a guest. I told the couple that since my brothers graduation is same day i won't be able to get to reception until 10pm (indian wedding..will start late, end late) and even then I just want to stop by at least to congratulate them, dance with them a little and be on my way. Told them not to even put me at a table. Now that i think about it. That in itself might be weird. Is it ok to bring a guest still or will me going late already mess up their headcount and everything. Should I just rsvp no? And not go altogether? Have to tell them soon. |
