Posted: 27 Sep 2016 10:03 AM PDT I've been seeing a bunch of posts around here about guests not being obligated to bring gifts to weddings and I have to say I find that absurd. From childhood through adulthood, from eavesdropping on my parents arguing over the amount to give, to working at a catering hall in college and personally collecting EACH guests gift, to discussing with friends and colleagues before each wedding not IF to give a gift, but how much... in all my life I've never heard of not gifting the couple. Much like you all say weddings shouldn't be gift grabs? Well they also shouldn't be seen as free food and entertainment for you, the guests. At least cover your late and that of a guest should you bring one. Also, much like you might say don't spend 20K on a wedding you can't pay for yourself, don't go to a wedding if you think it's a free dinner thrown in YOUR honor. Now, there might be extenuating circumstances if you were in the bridal party and had to pay for your own dress, tailoring and transportation, but for general guests yes you're expected to bring a gift and if you don't I guarantee people talk about you. |

Question: How to handle my wedding...? Posted: 27 Sep 2016 07:34 AM PDT So my boyfriend of 6 years asked me to marry him, i said yess. I would like to have a good time when the wedding happens but I'm a huge introvert and have social anxiety. I can't usually handle crowds (he has a lot of friends) much less being one of the people who are the center of attention. What are some things i can do to stay calm and have a good time? |
Question: How to tactfully request a check as a gift? Posted: 27 Sep 2016 06:47 AM PDT We declined doing registries. We don't need anything and frankly just want money to offset some of the costs of a wedding. We put on our website that we don't have registries thinking most people know to bring a check in that case but we are getting a lot of questions. One girl even said "well let me know what you want / need and I'll order it." So she's not only coming and bringing a plus 1 but thinks she's excused from gift giving until I specifically ask her??? How can I tactfully say please bring a check lol. And if you say it's rude to ask for gifts, isn't that what a registry is? |
