About 2 years ago I went through a deep depression and I was on the verge of suicide. This caused me to isolate myself and I completely stopped contacting my best friend, Brian. During those 2 years I got better and my situation improved, but that was not the case with Brian. Brian fell into a bit of a slump after we stopped hanging out. He started doing bad in school, he quit his job and overall, he became lazy. Since he wasn't in school and didn't work, his mom was going to kick him out of the house. He then lied to his mom and said I killed myself so she wouldn't kick him out. So basically, my best friend faked my death to avoid a bad situation. His entire family now thinks I've been dead and it's just hard to process. We are both 22 and have been friends for over 10 years and now I'm sure what to do. He wants to be friends again but this is really hard for me to get past. Not only that, but I don't know how he can possibly explain to his family that I'm not really dead. Any advice would be appreciated |

Or when i'm messaging someone and they just spam emojis with every single thing they say. It's so annoying! Me, "Hey" Friend, "Hey :) :D :D :)" "What's up?" "Nothing really :D:D:D :)" That was a simple example, normally there are other ones they use. Do they think it's funny? Do they think it makes the conversation cooler? It's really dumb and it's so annoying. So many people do this and i hate it. One person told me, "Well it's because we're on a phone and we can". You can on the computer too, so why don't you there?? And so my bestie is mad about that, and the problem is that she's sorta possessive over Evan, but not crazy possessive. I have been hanging with him since I moved here about 3 years ago and I went to high school with him. He has some sort of mental disability and issues. He's not mentally retarded but there is something a bit off about him like minor autism or something like that. He is a really insecure dude and he deals with it like a 12 year old even though he is 20. You can always tell he's jealous of someone because when they do something talented he will study it until he finds a flaw he will point it out and won't shut up about it. Same thing if a girl compliments another guy, he will bring up anything embarrassing he knows about him to turn her away from him even if it's something the dude did back in pre school. When ever I invite him to public situations he ends up getting slapped around by someone for saying something rude. It's like he will say something rude to test them to see how far he can go without getting his *** whooped because he gets off by putting others down. I also might add he's not a big dude either he's short, scrawny, and clumsy so he can't even come close to defending himself when something happens. I tried talking to him multiple times about the way he acts and he will act like I'm complimenting him and will brag about how being a jerk like it makes him look tough or something because he "calls it as he see's it. And I have to stop because then he starts getting full of himself. He will go out of his way to be a dick just to boost this image he thinks people think of him. He's delusional because everyone I introduce to him hates him but he thinks they love him because of " how outspoken he is". I always try just ignoring him when he calls or don't answer the door when he knocks on it but I for some reason feel guilty because I honestly think he's just dumb and has no other friends. I shouldn't feel obligated to hang with him and I know this but I can't help it because I feel sorry for him. What should I do? |

Im a relatively "nice" person, I dont get into trouble, I follow the rules and I never try to hurt anyones feelings. The people I become friends with are nothing like that. For example, my best friend is my best friend because hes rude, bossy and insensitive, we argue constently yet we're usually together and he calls me every day. I used to have a friend who argued with me constantly, until he changed. Started being nicer, would always agree with me and let me do anything I want. Ive basically stopped messaging him, for some stupid reason, I have no interest in talking to him much. And then I realized, all of my best friendships were with people who argued with me, but stuck around me. We both live in different states he lives in California and I live in Ohio last week I went back to see him. He and I were intimate again and we had fun together he took me McDonald's for breakfast and then to this nice park he wanted to buy me pizza but I told him I didn't want him to. Also he wanted to take me to the beach but it was way too hot outside. Then we went back to my hotel and we had Chinese food he spent the night with me for a couple of nights. He and I aren't in a long distance relationship I do enjoy going to see him. He said that he didn't want to be in a serious relationship and neither do I. I told him that I enjoyed spending time with him and he said he did too. And that I wanted to come back in December and he said ok. He asked me how much was I paying to take Uber to the airport I believe he wanted to drive me but I told him I didn't have to pay much. He and I are not in a long distance relationship. When I told him thanks for meeting me he said it was his pleasure. He said that he enjoyed it too and thanked me for not overwhelming him. At one point he said he didn't have anything to offer me. Posted: 25 Jul 2016 04:22 PM PDT i have 3 friends that we used to always hang out together. but recently, for the past three months at least, it has been only occasional that they'd call me up to hang out. but i notice that they have been hanging out together, in town, without caring to call me up. i just saw them driving by one of their houses and seeing the 3 sitting and talking, laughing, just having a usual hang out. and they do the things we used to always do together without me. on occasion i would call them up instead and it seems like almost every time they are doing something or say they're tired. whenever i do see them hanging out without calling me like today i don't go up or call them because, well, the fact that they don't call me seems to conclude they don't want to hang out with me. no, their work hours or jobs never changed over the time i started becoming distant from them. nothing seemed to change in their life, because on the rare occasions i do get called to hang out they don't mention any major change, and i know they would if something did change. trust me when i say it's guaranteed they would tell me if something like that happened i feel so alone. i hardly ever get to see my family, at work my coworkers and i always keep to ourselves and don't care much for socializing among ourselves, i live in a very small area and there's hardly any places to meet people, and yeah.... what do i do? do you think my friends don't like me anymore? besides if there were an easy way to make new friends in this area, it just wouldn't be the same. my friends and i were just matching puzzle pieces and i can't imagine anyone that would take their place. |

For years I had no self-esteem and was painfully shy. Things are much better (I found out that when I'm myself, I'm very likable), but it is hard/awkward when I meet new people (it takes a while for me to "warm up" to them). As for appearance, I wear a lot of warm neutrals and earth tones (they look good on my complexion but I read that they look unapproachable??), but I'm actually very friendly when talked to and love a good laugh. I'm into art, and find joy in supporting friends if they have events. I also like to travel and learn about different cultures. Mostly, I love talking! I learn so much from people, and I like to advise. But the thing is, how do I let this out? I have a case of RBF I'll admit, and I'm still working on not being too quiet without being awkward. Wild parties/Greek isn't my scene at all, but I always hear that this is where to meet friends 😟 if that's the case, I'm doomed! Also, I want good, genuine friends. Posted: 25 Jul 2016 03:07 PM PDT While playing the game "Pokemon Go" with my friends, after catching a rare Pokemon (Dragonite for all you Pokemon fans) next to my friend, out of jealousy, anger, stupidity, and humor, he took my phone and threw it 15 feet or so onto the ground. After picking it up, I noticed a larger crack down the center, and a chip in the top corner.It may not sound too bad but for me it is because now the phone is not water proof, as it was before, and I enjoy doing under water photography. At first I was shocked and did not say anything. In my head I thought " What a dumbass! or He's going to buy me a new one", but kept quiet. I did not want to cause any drama, or embarrass him as stupid as that sounds because I knew he would feel bad and make the situation awkward.. Hours later, I am afraid my parents will blame me for causing the damage to my phone ( I have a bad history breaking phones) but, I know if I tell my parents the truth they will go strait to his, and his parents will ground him for the rest of his life. His parents are very nice, and often buy me food, and take me places, so I do not want to burden them with the cause of a replacement. I also don't want to ruin any friendships, or cause any drama, but at the same time i am pissed that he would do such a stupid thing, and that I wont be able to use my phone in water. Things didn t work out for him so he cozied back up to her and she took him back...for a little while. She couldn t get over the fact he did that to her and broke things off. This girl is someone I ve been friends with for a few years and care about (longer than him). I was too shy to say anything early on and watched him begin dating her. Now we know how we feel about each-other and aren t just friends. Thing is I don t see this guy friend all the time and he doesn t know and I feel as if he s not totally over her. But then one day she started ignoring me and I had no clue why. I asked her why she was ignoring me. She told me it was because she didn't like the people that I were hanging out with. I got mad at her and didn't talk to her for a while but then a few weeks later she started talking to me and was really nice to me again. I thought that I could trust her so I was nice to her again and forgave her. But then a few weeks later we got into a fight over something I didn't even do. I told her I was sorry but she just walked away. The next day at school she wasn't talking to me and soon NONE of my friends were. I realized that it was all her fault and that she had turned all of my friends against me. i tried telling I was sorry millions of times but all she would do was walk away. For 2 months all of my friends were distant and never spending time with me but only her. After 2 months she emailed me and forgave me and I forgave her (stupidly). Everyone was nice to me and it felt great for some time before she blew up again. I saw her constantly whispering about me with my close friends and she would lie to me lots if we were talking to each other. I really don't know what to do because I still want to (no, more like NEED to) be her friend because if I'm not then I won't have any friends because she takes all my friends away from me. Posted: 25 Jul 2016 01:57 PM PDT My boyfriend is kinda distant sometimes, as in for the most part he won't text me for long periods of time, or even when he does, his replies seem shallow and no effort is put into them. I don't want to be constantly asking and pestering him whether he finds me boring, or if he prefers my friend.. Since that's annoying ?? But I don't feel that it's just paranoia, many times in the past when my friend and I have fallen out, he will talk to me a lot more, for the whole day for many days, he seems a lot more into the conversation... Until my friend and I make up, then he will talk to me less.. I've confronted him about it and he tells me that all he and my friend (who is female) have exchanged personal secrets during their (very frequent, though he will not admit) conversations, which is slightly concerning since I myself don't even know that much about each. Are they getting too close? |

Back in 2013 my friend Lindsey came to spend the night and she's the person that my friend Sarah was showing me the texts that they had wrote to each other and the texts were pretty recent too and Sarah had asked Lindsey are you and Ashten friends? And I'm Ashten by the way and Lindsey told Sarah no, and I felt bad about that. Back in 2013 when Lindsey spent the night for the last night her ex boyfriend had called her and she just was talking to him while she was at my house and then when she got off the phone I yelled at her because I was so upset and I was also dealing with my grandpa's death and I know I didn't handle that well and later on after that I told Lindsey I was really sorry that I yelled at her and she said it's okay and that she forgave me and back in January of 2014 me and Lindsey hung out and everything seemed fine and I'm a different person now than I was back in 2013. I've changed for the better but i don't know why Lindsey is like this now tho. Can someone please help me? Maybe I don't need her as a friend if she's gonna be this way because I've changed for the better |

We ve been friends for almost 3 years and until a few months ago were very close. But ever since summer vacation started we ve started drifting apart. At first my best friends became closer to another. I have strict parents and couldn t always hang out with them so they just seemed to forget about me, making plans right in front of me and never really inviting me over. I m going through some tough things right now and at the slightest mention of it all I get is a "that sucks" or "I m sorry" and they either ignore it or me after. Lately one of my best friends has been getting mad at us for no reason, and when asked about it just says "I thought you were mad at me" and changes the subject. She s been hanging out with another friend of mine lately. Whenever they re together they ignore everyone else and talk about their inside jokes and stuff. They ve been hanging out with eachother almost every day and making plans in front of me too, but not inviting me. My other best friend is just really distant and always seems annoyed at me, and when alone with any of them there s awkward silence. I m a shy person and all my other friends prefer them over me, and although I would like to make new friends it s summer break and I don t want to be awkward and alone at school when it starts again. I don t know what I m doing wrong to push them away or make them stop caring about me. I know there s nothing I can do about it but it still hurts. |
| Question: Is "pretty" an empty compliment now? Posted: 25 Jul 2016 01:38 PM PDT I feel like more often than not, it's just to make a person feel good about themselves (suggesting that perhaps they don't think the person feels great about themselves already). I personally feel that it's an empty compliment to either fill a space in the conversation or to make themselves more likable...regardless of whether or not you are actually pretty/beautiful. "If you want people to like you, you throw compliments at them". Sometimes, it's even said out of pity. Many people wish not to feed the ego of a pretty person so don't say anything at all to those that truly are. Rarely is it said in truth. Unless you're saying it out of attraction, there's no real point. Why give attention to someone's physicality if you aren't interested in exploring it? I haven't always considered myself pretty so have walked away from some of these "compliments" with a head shake...I'm more secure about myself than I've ever been, but I know I'm not the prettiest thing in the room. |

He and I were intimate again and we had fun together he took me McDonald's for breakfast and then to this nice park he wanted to buy me pizza but I told him I didn't want him to. Also he wanted to take me to the beach but it was way too hot outside. Then we went back to my hotel and we had Chinese food he spent the night with me for a couple of nights. He and I aren't in a long distance relationship I do enjoy going to see him. He said that he didn't want to be in a serious relationship and neither do I. Then last night, we were talking and I was telling her that the children start school next month and I start working again. She bluntly said, "Well the children are going to have fall break not to far for now so what's the point? I'm that age, and growing up I always had only a few friends and was shy, so I've always assumed I knew way less than lots of other people did. I 'know' people who have dozens or even hundreds of friends, but then when I talk to them....they don't really know much about the real world. Like the adult world. Like about the laws, bills, other financial things...they don't have a clue. Some even have thousands in debt from cellphones. How can they be naive, when they knew hundreds of people all thru highschool? I assumed I knew less than even middle school kids, because they knew way more people than me so they heard more stories and experienced more. So how can they not know basic things? |

About 1 hour before we were supposed to meet she canceled saying she was really tired. I was like "ok no worries". Then since I didn't know what to do I went with my sister in law at the bar I was originally supposed to go to with Ashley. After a couple of minutes there she was,laughing with a friend. She saw me,I didn't tell anything,I just looked at her and then left. What do you think about the whole thing? He was with another woman and I completely lost it. I asked if they were there together and I told her to keep him at her house and don't let him come back to mine.Then I tried to start a fight with her and I threw a drink on him. They walked off together and he ended up spending the rest of the evening with her. I called and text him a few times and didn't get a response from him until the middle of the next day. When we talked he told me that I was crazy and he admitted that he is seeing her. Surprisingly, I want to keep seeing him Should I keep seeing him knowing he is seeing her too? Was I wrong to create a scene? Should I try to move on or keep my distance for a while? |

Like he will make this joke where he moves his hips around in a circular motion, and he will act like that when I'm around towards other people who he's talking to.this other guy looks at me and I gave him a look like "this guy's weird" like I was little uncomfortable about it. I am a young woman who's In college, it's one thing to be friends but but not sure if I would consider this old guy a friend. I'm not sure what his purpose is of flirting with me like that, this is not the first he's acted this way,but I think other people are aware of his innapropriate behavior but the sad thing is it gets ignored and no one says anything. I juts want This to stop, it makes me feel uncomfortable and I'm not going be the one to put my foot down, either my dad or someone else will. I think he's kind of a creep and wants something from a young woman 3ven though he's married and I think it's sad that he does this when his wife is not around. What should I do, remain friends with him or stay away from him completely and not be friends? My dad has observed this behavior before and he doesn't appreciate it.
