I'd heard of brides and grooms pre approving speeches, to ensure no embarrassing stories get told in front of people's dear old aunties, etc. My husband asked his BM for the speech beforehand but the BM didn't write anything. So we just relaxed and trusted him to not embarrass us. Big mistake. He basically got up at the reception and said he was shocked when my husband told him we were getting married, he tried to talk him out of it (a guy joke... didn't go over very well with the crowd though,) and the "toast" was basically "whether we agree with it or not, here we are..." Everyone assumed he and I hated each other but we weren't involved in any feud I was aware of (until now)... He's just a bitter divorced guy who assumes if his marriage failed, everyone else's is doomed too. What gets me is we didn't even ask him to give a speech. He wanted to. He wanted the platform. He even requested his own special intro music. I don't think I can ever forgive him for doing that. Am I alone in this? When I try searching basically the title of this question I just get a bunch of advice articles on how to give the BM speech.
