Weddings: Question: Cultural insensitivity not sure about this? |
| Question: Cultural insensitivity not sure about this? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:34 AM PDT My longtime friend is due to be married next year, she is half Indian and half British and the wedding is going to be held in India (big traditional wedding) + a small ceremony in the UK later. I was honored to be invited but my thought now is whether or not it is appropriate for me to wear Indian style dress & adornments to this Indian wedding when I am not Indian myself. My friend and her sister both say it is fine but they are obviously close to me and perhaps more permissive / lenient. I am slightly concerned that it would cause an uncomfortable feeling for the Indian guests. I am interested to see what people here think on the matter. I have a couple of beautiful traditional Indian Lehenga outfits which my friend gave me a few years ago and I actually have a full set of Indian wedding jewelry which belonged to my Gran (she married my Grandfather out in India - though neither Indian) which I could utilize a few (more appropriate) pieces from like necklace / bracelets & earrings. I know there seems to be an emphasis on making a presence at an Indian wedding & what you wear sends a message about both yourself & (in my case) the bride who graciously invited you. I could look the part of an Indian guest in how I dress. But perhaps not in & of myself. As I said, my friend gave the ok for me to go Indian style or western, whichever I saw fit. I feel this is more my uncertainty than hers & I am just interested in getting some outside opinions on the matter. Many thanks. |
| Question: Wedding location in NYC?!!!? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 03:22 AM PDT Can you tell me or recommend places to get married in New York City? (places where you can celebrate the wedding ceremony). I'm not interested in glitzy, extravagant or luxury places but I'm interested in a place that is romantic. |
