We're in the same club, and so I've tried messaging him and messaging him on Snapchat, and while he responds immediately, he doesn't keep up the conversation, nor initiate (with a very rare exception). However, before we started messaging, the people in our club had to write something about someone else in our club, and he wrote to me, "you're a great friend and a great person!" (Mind you, this was even before we started talking). The thing that confuses me is, he'll sometimes stare at me, smile and say hi when we see each other on campus, but doesn't bother to message me first. I know that he's a quiet person, but I'm really confused by his actions. At first, I thought that he didn't want to show that he was interested, but now I'm starting to think that he's just not interested. |

When he starts talking about music (whether its a song/artist he likes, a class he's taking, or his band) he goes on a tangent for 15-30 minutes straight. Me being a person who knows nothing technical about music, but simply loves hearing it, finds it off-putting when he uses terms in reference to tempo/measure/etc, because he knows I have no idea what he's saying, and its almost like he just wants to hear himself talk. It got to the point a few months ago where I had to ask him to stop the constant music rants because it made him come off as ego-centric. He often compared himself to my friends, and told me he was so much better than them at music. I called him out on this and he said "guitarists are supposed to be arrogant." However, since he played his first gig in a long time last week, its started up again but much more intense. Last weekend was Valentines day, and he insisted on bringing his guitar to our date because "he still needed to practice." I asked him if he cared about music more than me, and he said we were equal but music is simply intangible. He gets upset and says I'm unable to be happy for him, but I just don't know how to tell him I hate THE WAY he talks about music because he gets extremely self-absorbed and cocky. He won't stop talking about his next studio sessions and gigs, and I don't want to sound rude but its so off-putting! Am i being selfish? |
