Question: How should I manage a relationship with a family member who always lies? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 11:02 AM PST This is my Dad. He makes promises and always ends up breaking them leaving me hurt. I'm an adult so I don't mean kid stuff like play dates. |
Posted: 21 Feb 2020 10:59 AM PST Last night I overheard my mom and her fiance talk about trying to get her pregnant. She talked about how she went to her doctor and her doctor told her that although she's a bit older she still has a good chance of getting pregnant if she does xyz things. This came as a huge shock for me. I'm very concerned about my mom, but I'm not sure how (or even if) I should approach her about it. First of all the main thing that bothers me about my mom's fiance is their age difference. She is 42 and he is 26. When I first found out she was dating so much younger I thought it would end up being some fun fling mom had before she moved on. However, they kept staying together longer and longer. If my mom gets pregnant they're probably in it for the long hall. I'm really concerned the age difference is going to be a big problem in their relationship, and I don't know why my mom is looking past that. They're in very different stages in life due to age difference. Also, the age gap is just plain weird. I'm very suspicious of why he would want to date someone my mom's age and not his age. Although I don't know why she can't see potential problems in the relationship itself I do know why she's trying to get pregnant now: she's always wanted another kid (the only reason why she didn't have another is my dad didn't want one) and she thinks her chances are running out. However, if she does get pregnant it could turn out very badly for both her and her kid.(click to read very last bit) Some people may say that this isn't my business (I am 21), but I think it is my business. As her daughter I'm concerned about my mom's happiness and I'm afraid of her making a huge mistake. I want to talk to her about this/try to talk her out of it, but I don't know how. How can I express my concerns to my mom about her engagement/trying to get pregnant with a guy way too young I know I may not be able to convince my mom to change her mind, but what's the best way for me to bring up/express my concerns to her? |

Question: What is covert incest exactly? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 09:56 AM PST My aunt keeps saying her mother committed it towards her sister (my other aunt). There was no sexual abuse so what does Granny committing covert incest mean? |
Question: Is it normal for little sister to hit older brother when playing? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:18 AM PST Been very removed from family since i started high school, but recently a couple months ago decided to try and fix the relationships i destroyed. I am 20 my sister is in the 9th grade so like 14 or 15, she will randomly come up and punch me in the arm as hard as she can, it really doesn't hurt but not sure if i should be offended and feel disrespected by it. Or like she'll do small annoying things like sprinkle water on my face when im on phone, its obvious that when i look to see who did it it was her because she is giggling and getting ready to run away, not sure if this is normal or if im being lowkey bullied lmao. In other words how should I take this kind of behavior? Is it normal? |
Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:57 AM PST I have a bruise from my mom multiple recordings of emotional abuse, she doesn't care about me, my relatives in SC already offered me to stay with them. She won't let me stay with them. DSS has done nothing to help they want things to get worse before they help. They said my bruises from this time and last time weren't bad enough. My mom will not allow it I have ten months until I turn 18. Help, please I will be taken by law enforcement if I try to leave Law enforcement will return me to the home each time I try to leave |
Question: My dad is an alcoholic, how do I stop feeling like it’s my fault? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:33 AM PST He has blamed me for it before when we tried an intervention because I was a difficult teenager. Indeed his drinking started when I was a teen and my mother blames me also. She justifies her covering up for him as " He drinks because of these behaviors I put him through as a teenager". She tells me she's not holding a grudge against me but she simply needs to explain his drinking. I feel guilty like I killed him as he is slowly killing himself with alcohol and driving us away from him. My brother won't even come around with his children anymore as he says he hast to protect his children from our father's volatile temper. I feel this is all because of me. I'm going to Al-Anon and also wondering on here how do I stop blaming myself? |
Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:29 AM PST I'm in love with my mom's cousin. It's not just a friendship or a family bond but it's serious love. She is the daughter of my mom's uncle from his second marriage and so she's got much closer in age to me than my mother. However, she's a relative. She's not a super closely related relative like a sister but she'd be my mom's cousin and that's my first cousin once removed or second cousin, not sure how that works. This weekend I'm going to see her and we plan to have sex and I hope to propose later this year. My question is if this is OK or is this incest like if it was my sister? Is a cousin of a parent OK to marry and have sex with? Her mother is not even a blood relative since it's my great uncles wife so she's really only a half cousin. |
Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:20 AM PST We are different to an extreme. I am obsessed with pleasing people. I feel like I have to cave to what others want to avoid arguments. My sister on the other hand loves fighting. She does what she wants and if someone tells her not to she thinks too bad and does it. She is a narcissist whereas with me I don't like myself and think I should be below everybody because I don't deserve respect. I assume that nobody likes me. I wish I had some of my sisters narcissism. When I was growing up my mom was stable and they were rules and I had to follow them and if I did not I went to my room. My parents were happily married and I had two siblings that were normal. Then my parents had twins unexpectedly when I was 11. My sister is one of those twins. My mother hit mid life and started having really bad anxiety and it led to marital problems my parents had. If my sister screamed enough my mom caved and lifted any punishment that was given to avoid a conflict. Earlier in my sisters life when she was like nine my parents were busy dealing with me who had just attempted suicide at age 20 and had injuries from it. So they were too busy to really discipline my sister. Long story short my sister is in her mid-20s now and my parents lives have gotten easier and they are happy with each other again. Now I still have the insecurity of wanting to please people to the point of obsession where is my sister loves conflict and has narcissism. We both grew up the only two girls in the family. Could we be so different because our parents, mainly our mother, were different when raising me then they were when raising her? They were much more stable in my childhood than in my sisters childhood? |
Question: How do I get my parents to stop playing games to enable my sister’s narcissistic ways? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 05:35 AM PST They also are going out of town in a week to please my grandmother by enabling another narcissistic relative by visiting her and giving her special attention. It is the Narcissistic Family System. How do I get my folks to stop the enabling. My sister they cover up for. |
Question: Fiancés only sister doesn’t like me getting close to mother in law? Posted: 21 Feb 2020 05:30 AM PST It's in the title. The girls 18, never done anything to the girl but me extremely giving and nice. I offer her to do pedicures, shopping, and lunch trips and she never responds. When I come around she ignores me, hell the girls never even said my name. There have been texts back and forth between her and my fiancé about how she's not fond of me because I make myself "too comfortable for someone who isn't family and they don't know" and how I'm the reason her and my fiancé don't talk.. when they are 8 years apart. My fiancé shut that down, and we did have a open conversation all together. The girls just rude. The mom and I on the other hand get along well, but I do feel because her 18 yo old AND only daughter is holding her back from having a relationship with me. Which is fine, but do I need to step back? For example... when I offered to take the mom to the store together she replied with "let me go ask (daughter name) to come too. Or she always has to see what her daughter thinks. Or whenever I'm having a drink with her mother she comes in and interrupts everything almost like she wants me to leave. |

Question: What do I do about my parents not letting me go here for spring break? Posted: 20 Feb 2020 08:16 PM PST I am a senior in high-school. Every year, everyone does things in big groups for spring break. I have never done these things. Now that I'm a senior, I had the idea to stay with my uncle who lives in Jupiter Fl. He has a large house and told me he is totally okay with me staying there with a friend. I mentioned it to my parents and they have expressed that the 9 hour drive is too long and they're worried about something happening to me on the drive. I've tried to reason and say that their fears shouldn't hold me back from this experience but they are being so stubborn. This is my only life, my last high school spring break I will ever get. I know there will be more opportunities for me to go to Jupiter but this is spring break and my parents don't understand that I deserve this. I'll be 18. I don't want to go just to do something, there are tons of amazing things I've always dreamed of doing there that I have planned ( swimming with sharks, snorkeling, etc ). I am so conscious that if I have the opportunity to do this that I should. Life is so short. I shouldn't be held back by my parents fears, but I won't go without their permission even though I could. What the hell do I do? |

Question: I think my boyfriend is cheating on me, what do I do about him, please answer? Posted: 20 Feb 2020 05:47 PM PST So me and my girlfriend have been together many years and suddenly she hasn't been answering and I caught her texting another guy the other day and she said it's just a friend even though I saw him tell her I love you, and today my boyfriend has been ghosting me constantly and wont even answer my texts. I'm really upset that she's ghosting me because I don't deserve this. I also heard rumors he's doing stuff with others behind my Back. Should I talk to her and tell her I love her or pretend I don't know or should I just end it with my gf I think he's cheating basically |
