I am starting to notice the behavior of one of my best friends who I met last year in Spain, during a study abroad program. We are now both back in California, her and I live near each other. Anyways, recently (maybe the last 2 months) I started to feel very bad (I can't explain it) after we would hang out. I would not feel like myself. I started to think back at little moments in (throughout our friendship) where I would feel weird anytime I was with her and I noticed that it happened a lot. For example, one time she made a comment while we were in Spain and said "Spanish people are so ugly, every girl here in Spain is unattractive" and I said to her, "you know that I am Spanish, and that is not true" and she said "well you are not ugly, but all the other Spanish girls are". There have been many many moments like that, another one would be "ewww that girl is short and not cute" (she would say this knowing I am not very tall, maybe 5 '5''- she's like almost 6 feet) and I would say to her "I am short, is that not cute?" and it would be the same thing "oh, with you, it's fine". Those are just two examples of things said, but it happens a lot. I've spoken to her about it and her response is "I am a bossy type A personality, that's just how we are". She tells me that she wishes she could be extroverted like me, and this morning I woke up to a text message saying she doesn't understand why I have to always be the center of attention. |
