Question: Do guys mention gfs in the middle of a conversation to put you in your place? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 05:59 PM PDT I am in college and in my class the professor assigned us to groups for future projects. I started talking to the only guy in the group about music. Randomly in the middle of the conversation he mentions his girlfriend, I don't remember why he talked about her but I'm pretty sure it was unrelated or so random that I had to change the subject because I didn't have a comment about what he said. I wonder if he mentioned that to put me in my place even though I wasn't flirting I was having a friendly chat. But maybe it seemed like I was interested? I don't know honestly. |

Question: How to ground a 15 years old boy who doesn't follow any rules? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 04:53 PM PDT My son doesn't follow our rules. He misses curfews, ditches classes, uses cuss words, doesn't clean up after himself. I don't know how to ground him. I take away his phone privileges but he goes on his computer and checks the social media that way. When I disconnect the computer and internet he says he needs it for homework or he goes out of the house. One time I said if you go out I am not going to let you in, so he didn't come home and spent the night at a friend. Once I withheld his allowance, after a few days I noticed that he has put my credit cards on his phone and pays by apple pay. I had to cancel all my cards and now I have to hide my wallet. He is tall and strong boy and sometimes when I am mad and argue with him, he picks me up and walks around the house and laughs and try to mock me. I am a single mom and having a hard time dealing with his misbehavior. Any recommendations? |
Question: Should I move in with my cousins? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 04:47 PM PDT I am thinking of moving in with my cousins because they live better lives than I do living with my parents. My life is about cities, school, seriousness, and their lives are about farms, ranches, animals, country, socializing. In December, they are going to Texas (one of my favorite places) for like the 50th time and I am so jealous of them because I have only gone there twice! They go to Texas more than I do because they have family there and I don't (my uncle is married to my aunt by marriage and they had kids and my aunt by marriage is the one with family in Texas. No one in my maternal family is in or from Texas)! I have family in Colorado and so do my cousins and have gone there many times but I like Texas way better! I also don't know why my cousins' family never invite me to go to Texas with them. I hate the way my life is and wish I had their lives! I feel like a misfit and people just don't seem to understand. Do you think I should move in with my uncle/aunt/cousins, or should I stay with my parents? Also, how do I discuss this with my parents? |
Question: Why my mom put so much pressure on me not to get fat? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 04:43 PM PDT I never understand my mom, like she keep saying no man want a fat woman. Im thin because of my mom she keep nagging at me dont get fat, and it hard for a fat woman to get married. |
Question: How do I deal with my dad being passive aggressive? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 04:22 PM PDT Every once in a while my dad gets passive aggressive when I don't go along with what I know he expects me to do or say. It feels like walking on glass. It starts with tension then yelling, and then he won't talk to me anymore for a day or two until he calms down, and then I have to tread lightly again. Trying to explain or calm him down makes him yell and shout even louder, not letting me fit any words. I find it immature... For example today I came back from work after a long day, exhausted greeted at the door with 'you have work do to', which is not a big task... assemble and set up an appliance we bought. But it was 11pm and I was really tired, so I responded with 'why is it urgent to do now, I just came back from work'. I could've been a bit better, probably made a face, but 'you have work to do' when I just came back from work, didn't sound right to me. I did it anyway, being pressured into it and trying to avoid the yelling and a day or two of not talking. When I got to it, he seemed angry and there was tension, I called him out on it because It felt uncomfortable (asking what is the matter) and he ended up lashing out anyway, even though I did what he wanted. I am more than old enough to move out, financially not so much, but I'd just like to fix this and somehow break the cycle so I don't have to have a bad relationship with him. |
Posted: 17 Sep 2019 04:18 PM PDT So my dad has a drinking problem. Not just getting drunk every so often. Almost everyday in the week. Its 24/7. And he gets loud and mean and nasty. He insults us all, calls me worthless. He even told me to go die because I was feeling depressed and suicidal. He slaps me for standing up for myself and almost hit my stepmom last time this happened. He stays up all night, and coincidently, always chooses to get really, really drunk when I have an important test at school or something. He even slapped me so hard the night before my fifth grade graduation that even foundation couldn't cover the bruise. The worst part is he never apologizes and blames every bad thing after that on us. Please help! (Btw Im 13) |

Posted: 17 Sep 2019 02:54 PM PDT I lost it with her and grabbed her shoulders and said will you cut it out and grow the hell up. I called her a bad word as well. We were like two little kids arguing over a toy. I'm never going to go on a vacation that she's on again and she said she's never speaking to me again which is fine with me. Is it OK to grab someone by the shoulders since it's not going to injure them or was this assault? She's insane ( not literally) so she claimed I was choking her which of course was not at all the case. Those on the vacations that I was fine not to feel guilty but I kind of felt bad that I grabbed her by the shoulders. The aunt did smile and say "ooh, if it was your brother it would be OK but I wouldn't do it to a lady". Certainly I would never put my hands on a woman in terms of injuring a woman at all. Excuse any grammar errors I'm talking into my iPhone. |
Posted: 17 Sep 2019 02:47 PM PDT I want to go on living but I know my parents will fall apart and become totally dysfunctional upon his death. How do I manage and keep myself positive? I keep hearing the big one will destroy Los Angeles in the coming 50 years. |
Question: Was this a compliment or not? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 02:29 PM PDT I am a high school girl with a 18 year old male cousin. I have know him all of his life and he is a great friend. I call him when ever I need advice and he calls me when he needs advice. We are very close friends. A few days ago he said "I am VERY LUCKY to have you as a friend. I am VERY UNLUCKY that you are my cousin because you are the most beautiful, hot, and sexy girl I have ever met. Unfortunately since we are cousins, all we can ever be is friends." I think that is a complement but I am not sure. What do you think? Is it true that cousins can not marry in the U.S.? |

Posted: 17 Sep 2019 01:42 PM PDT I have friends whose parents are immigrants from different parts of the world like Italy, Mexico, Vietnam, Philippines, and France. They came here like 15 years ago and until now they still have these distinct accents from where they're from. Most of my friends were not even born here but they learned to speak English from school and they have adapted this generic American accent. I met them in high school. We're in our 20's now. Even my parents are immigrants. They'refrom the Philippines. We moved to the US 6 years ago when I was 17 and I have 2 siblings who were 13 and 15 at that time. The first 2 years wasn't easy because we're still adjusting and we could barely speak fluent English but we understood English very well. 4 years after my cousins who were born here noticed we have adapted the American accent but we didn't even know that we have it but my parents still have this thick Filipino accent when they speak and it is very noticeable. Will they ever lose their accent? Not that it's a problem to me. I'm just curious. My parents are in their 50's and 60's and my siblings and I are in our early 20's. Is this why it's not that easy to lose an accent because of the age of a person? Younger people learn to adapt a language and accent faster than older people. |

Question: Is this a good or a bad idea ? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 12:38 PM PDT So currently I live in New York , and am in a predicament . Right now I have the opportunity to move in with an elderly lady I met , rent free and in exchange I help her and do tasks like (cleaning the home , cooking meals , doing her laundry , help remind her of her doctor appointments etc ) . I am 21 not employed because of a back problem , I met this lady through my fiancé doing work for her sister helping clean out a home her sister had once owned . Besides the age gap she is a very friendly lady , but then again I have had negative and positive reactions from people I know as well about the situation . I would be paying for ( my own food , as well as contributing food , & my own internet as she does not use internet , and paying for my own necessities like toilet paper etc) . I just want some opinions on wether or not this situation sounds appropriate and reasonable or if I should decline and look else where! |
Question: Do I have to visit my sister in the hospital? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 09:27 AM PDT I do not stand her husband. I had to drag my feet to go to her wedding, and I thought I'd never have to see that jackass again. |
Question: My was friend's father abusive? Posted: 17 Sep 2019 09:26 AM PDT Her parents used to hit each other during arguments. The father started hitting first but a couple years later it became mutual. Long ago when she was 8, she came home crying that a boy on the playground (and bully) her age slapped her and pushed her to the ground hard. Her father was drunk and upset. He said that next time she comes home crying and doesn't fight back, he's going to paddle her himself. His words were ''get him now, punch, beat him or I'll paddle you for being weak''. The next time she did beat the boy though. Crying and asking for help was seen as weakness in the household. Wasn't that still abusive? Ironically when she once became a bully, the father didn't punish her for that. In fact, he thought he raised a strong, girl and not a weakling. |

Posted: 17 Sep 2019 07:52 AM PDT She is 26 years old so not a kid. She does this routinely. Christmas time and other holidays her behavior is sometimes abhorent also. She is a bad person. If six then these fits would be understandable, what would cause a 26 year old to do this when she is normal functioning? Could ADHD cause it (she has that)? |
Posted: 17 Sep 2019 07:34 AM PDT I have been robbed of precious time with extended family because my Mom and her siblings fought over their father's alcoholism. I want to try and get close but in appropriate ways. I don't want to try too hard where I risk imposing on their privacy. I am always unsure socially due to learning disabilities and ADHD as well as me having lots of anxiety. |
Posted: 17 Sep 2019 06:39 AM PDT So to start off I'm 20 years old with really bad anxiety and mild depression but I'm a functioning human however I've had a several jobs in the past and I'm in college but now that I am unemployed and not doing nothing around our house my parents keeps calling me lazy and that I'm 20 years old I need to start making good decisions. Yes I make some poor decision sometimes but not all the time. So am I lazy? In the past I've had employers say I'm a hard worker and a good employee. but I had to quit this last job. Just to add here I want to have a job but Is it so bad to just to focus on college and have free time during the week I plan to work after college. |

Posted: 17 Sep 2019 04:27 AM PDT Should I remind her since she no longer hates my mother and her mother is out of the picture (her parents divorced in 2012). I would just say I thought maybe she didn't use Facebook cause I could not find her name. |

Question: Would you stop talking your older brother forever after a fight? Posted: 16 Sep 2019 09:57 PM PDT I live with my brother sister and mom. He's 23 and I'm 18. We got into a fist fight last night. My mom wasn't there. It was over a Xbox controller. He wouldn't let me see my Xbox controller so i took his phone. And threw it. He got angry and we started fighting. My little sister tried to break it up but I mean we are taller than her I'm skinnier than both of them though. He busted my lip, and ripped my shirt. I shared a room with my brother Now I'm sleeping in the living room. My mom says I'm crazy and that is not his room. So then my little sister offered to sleep in the living room and I can have her bed. But I told her no, she's just 15. And to stay out of it, why should she have to sacrifice her bed because we fought? I feel like he should be sleeping in the living room anyway. But I just want to know if I should just stop talking to him for good. Because I go back to work in 2 days and I'm going to have a busted lip. |
Question: What can I do to surprise my sister and make her smile? Posted: 16 Sep 2019 05:07 PM PDT So my sis is in USA and I am not. Her birth day is 2 months away and I want to do something once a week till her birthday to surprise her and make her smile. Now I have already ordered here flowers online which will be delivered sometime this week. What else can I do? And what services or companies can I use? Nothing expansive. Just small things to make her day while she's at work. Remember I live overseas so I am not physically there. And aside from online florists i don't now anything else that I can use / pay for in USA for this purpose. Only genuine replies please. Your help is very much appreciated |

Question: Why does my grandmother want to be alone? Posted: 16 Sep 2019 03:20 PM PDT My grandmother is starting to have Dementia, she forgets stuff and forgets her kids names and also what day it is! She also does not take showers, she just washes herself up with soap and water, and also gets very angry fast and irritated! She has lived by herself for 10 years because her husband died! At first we lived in a different town and she cried to my mom on the phone and said she wants us living with her in her trailer because she is scared and does not want to be alone and says she does not have enough money! Than we moved in on August the 1st and got settled in! Now it is almost October and she now wants us out of her trailer saying she wants to be alone! My mom believes she thinks my gram does not want to be in our way of living our life! She also thinks she is nervous with us living with her! She sleeps all the time in the morning and has a hard time sleeping at night! She is still able to do stuff on her own sometimes! So why, Why does she want to kick us out of the trailer so fast and wants to be alone for? |
