During the summer, a new girl, "Jessie" moved into the neighborhood from across town. When she wasn't hanging out with her friends from her old neighborhood, she'd hang out with Sam and me. During the summer, both Sam and I started liking Jessie as more than just a friend. Yesterday, Jessie's best friend came up to me and told me that Jessie liked me, and wanted me to ask her out. During lunch I did and we have a date planned for Friday. My problem is that Sam found out, and all day long he's been acting really rude to me. He didn't talk to me at the bus stop this morning. He sat at a different bench on the bus instead of the one we normally sit on. During lunch when I sat down at the table next to him, he got right up and went outside. He didn't take the bus home after school... I figure he walked. Our neighborhood is only about 2 miles away. He's not returning the texts I sent him to talk about things.. Every time we hang out it s always the same thing. We just go to the movies and then she goes home. If we do anything else (which is rarely) it's because another friend of hers made plans and she invited me along or they're a mutual friend who invited the both of us, or that time she invited me to her birthday party. I've invited her to a ton of things and every time she comes up with some excuse like a rash or relatives visiting and it s almost always last minute. It's not a coincidence because this has been happening for almost 3 years. Because of that I usually stop trying, but then she messages me and asks me to a movie. We actually went skating last week, but she didn't seem to want to be there and didn't want to do anything after. There is Girl 1 (1) she is in the middle of having to choose between 2 girls, Girl 2 (2) and me. 2 is depressed and has to see therapy for many reasons, if 1 leaves her there is a high chance she might commit suicide because 1 is her only friend. 1 also said, she doesn't want to have to choose between us. I still want to be 1 friend but because her psycho and obsessed friend (not exaggerating --- she literally can't go anywhere without 1) is always there, I can never hang out with 1 and do things like go to the mall, invite her over...anything. I obviously don't want 1 to choose but I also don't want to just find a new friend. Also... deep down I feel like 1 doesn't want to admit it but she is kind of tied to 2 and it's almost impossible to leave, but because she has such a big heart she won't hurt her friends feeling by ditching her for a more healthy group of friends. After i joined theatre in junior year, i slowly started to open up. I was invited to certain social events in my senior year but i was still the quiet one. One day i betrayed her and she stopped talking to me no matter how much i apologized. Then i was left with no friends. I get depressed sometimes because we couldve been having fun and going to places together with them. I couldve opened up all the way because i wouldve got comfortable with all of them. I look around and i see groups of peolple who look so happy around their friends. I wish i was like them. But i feel so lonely and empty. Im in college now. My first year wasnt so great. I made one friend but she mostly talks about herself and ignores what i say about myself. I want an actual group of friends where we can drink or smoke a little because that helps me be more social. My new friend doesnt like drinking. Even though im joining two clubs and theatre and dance in college, i feel like no one would invite me anywhere because theyre comfortable with their current social group and wouldnt want to add an awakward person. It was all she would talk about when she was around me. I began to think she was covering up contempt. Then today, she stared at me as I came out of my apartment. As I walked in her direction to my car, she looked to the sky as if to convey the message, "Uh not her again." Lately, I've only seen her in passing, and she usually tries to talk my ear off. So, why would she be annoyed by me? She was also my acting teacher for a while, but I stopped taking classes with her because she wasn't making an effort to teach us. I think she resents me for it. In her defense, she does have a mental disorder and maybe that is what causes her to come out of character. I can't talk to her because she is passive aggressive and very sensitive. I live in the South deep in the country in a very small town where no one outside it has ever heard of. I finished school only to have no friends, no job, no money, no food in my house, and no one to talk to or have anyone to care about. My twin brother doesn't like me or appreciates my existence and refuses to have anything to do with me and I'm not as close to my mom as people think I would be since she works so much. All my friends cut me off as soon as we graduated and haven't thought twice about me (I only had 3 people I actually befriended the entire 4 years). I never had any friends in HS because people didn't like me since I'm different and have different interest. People like I'm no one my entire life. No one has ever told me happy birthday, or happy new year, or ask me how I was doing spontaneously. Im poor and I really don't have anything I wear all my brother's clothes who is younger then me and when I go out of town or even down the street I feel embarrassed because I can't dress nice since I have no money. I have no car, so I can't get out town so I'm landlocked in this place. When I say hey to people I know in the streets they pretend they didn't see me or just wave and not say anything to not be rude, but in reality they don't like me. He got with me at a party about a year ago and then asked me out and the next day said it was a mistake, Fair enough. From here it was harder to be friends with him, he would insult me constantly and upset me. I reconnected with an old friend who he didn't like, he found out he wouldn't talk to me at all and completely left our friend group. He texted a week later to go to a festival to which I replied no to. We eventually became friendly with each other again. I even invited him to join us to this festival as he had no one to go with and then things took a turn for the worst. He began being mean to me again, saying hurtful things, I wanted to address it but my friend advised me not to as it usually made things worse.I went to a party which he wasn't at. The next day I saw him and he told me that he heard what I had said about him behind his back which I hadn't at all, he never came up in conversation. It was good but honestly it really upsets me about how people just connect so well and I can't do that. In middle school I basically had two SUPER close friends but they both went to different high schools. Then my friend kicked her out of the group and her little sister ran downstairs crying! So now instead of us all getting along like we were before, now her mom split us up and said, "You and Jessica (that's me) go upstairs and do your own thing and leave the kids alone." My friend has a pool, so if the little kids go in the pool, we can't. We're basically stuck up here and we can't do anything for another two hours! And now my friend has bruises on her arms because her sister scratched her. I'm very quiet, shy, and scared of rejection, so I don't really know how to make friends. Any suggestions on how to not be quiet and be more outgoing? During tryouts I just kinda stood there and didn't really talk... I have social anxiety and it's really difficult for me to open up to people. |

My friend has told me before his gf has gotten 7 dui's this past year, and that she often showe up wasted at his house without him even inviting her over. His gf posted that he left her stranded an hour from her home last night. I don't really believe that'd he do that to her, but I have told her(she keeps messaging me about him) that I don't wanna take anyone's side. What would you do and what do you think? |

What's most important to me is my education and acceptance into college. I had a solid friend group this summer, but we all split apart. My best friend told me that she no longer wanted to be my best friend anymore. I have no friends at all now, and this has never happened before. I feel like I have no one close to turn to, and everyone is just an acquaintance. I can't make new close friends because the people I could become close friends with I've known for years and I know we wouldn't get along in that way. I feel lonely. I haven't felt like that in a long time. I was happy a month ago, and now it feels like it's all caving in on me. The girl I hate has taken all of my friends from me and made them into her close friends, which makes it so much worse. I sound like a brat, and that's fine. I have every right to feel empty or lonely or upset that I don't have anyone to turn to. So at the end of June I went to LA again for 3 months, as a summer vacation. I text her and told her I was there for 3 months and we should meet up at some point. She agreed and said she'd let me know when she was coming. Fast forward to the beginning of August, I decided to get an earlier flight home. I didn't tell her (I forgot to) because we hadn't spoken since June when I invited her to come. So 2 months later (today) she texts me saying she's coming to LA on the weekend and asking me where I'm staying. What do I do? I feel pretty bad |
