Today is Memorial Day. To many Americans it's just a bbq day. For me and my family it was that before 2004. 2004 is the year. In 2004 my brother died in Iraq. I was 10 when it happened. We were not a lovey dovey family but we all cared about each other. In the early 00s sometimes we fought a lot,we still cared about each other. It's hard for me to watch his pictures where he has long hair,in a pre 911 world. Then 911 happened. He joined the Marines in june 03 and was deployed to Iraq spring 04. He was a funny guy,sometimes I really hated him,for istance one xmas he broke my present and I punched him,then he made up to me by rebuying it to me,not cause mom told him to,he just was sorry. A few times he defended me from bullies. Also one time he was busted when he and his buddies went out of the school perimeter by a teacher hahah... these are just glimpese of a life that ended on a sat. morning in Iraq. too soon. My point is that if you're having a bbq today please think about them,not just my bro,but about those who gave their lives so you can enjoy your family. I miss you D.

My dad is worried about my half-brother, he doesn't act like a 15 year old boy. He acts way mature for his age and is obssesed with cooking. I think that's cool that he cooks for everyone in the fam. He's got talent, makes really good food. But my dad is freaking out. What do you guys think?

My parents are saying next week they will become empty nesters. Does that mean all of their children have graduated high school or none of their children live at home full-time? My older sibling commutes to the local university therefore does not live on campus. I will be home during breaks and summers. Does that not make my parents empty nesters? The term seems to be a gray area and I wanted a better understanding.

I understand what my dad wants from me and my brother. He wants us to become close, to lean on each other and be best friends. In a perfect world that's how it should be. But to be realistic that might never happen. I am 5 years older than my brother, we live some 4 hours apart and we are completely different people. My brother is introverted, difficult to talk to and not very interested in hanging out. He's mostly with his girlfriend and doesn't really have friends that he sees regularly. visit my parents and my brother maybe once every 2-3 months. I was there a couple of weeks ago and I planned on spending a night with my brother having a few beers. He cancelled last minute. The day after I got together with some old friends and we went on a boat to fish and hang out. He didn't want to come. This happens almost every time. I can not force something that simply isn't there. And every time we do hang out I exhaust our conversation topics within 20 min and we we end up just sitting there. Talking to him is like pulling teeth. He is my brother and nothing can change that. But I just don't see us becoming good friends in the near future. I don't want to disappoint my father but it is what it is. And it's not like my brother calls me and wants to do stuff. How can you be close to siblings if you are different people?

guys i really need help my mom keeps taking my phone at night . The problem is a few days ago she that that im old enough to take full respsibility to use my phone but not even a week she keeps taking it at night and puts it near her bed and every time i wake up boom my phone disappered this actually annoys me so much but i dont know how to tell her to stop . My niece is about six. When she acts up she sometimes tells her father "I hate you" or "I don't like you". He tells her the exact same thing but worse "no one loves you" and it makes her cry. The mom doesn't care because she thinks her daughter should have a taste of her own medicine. I think he shouldn't talk to her that way but I never had kids so I don't know. Is this normal? Should I talk to my sister about how her husband treats their daughter? The daughter is a pain in the butt but she still doesn't deserve harsh words.

Im 17, and turn 18 in 3 months. I have a full time job and pay for everything i need. I paid for my phone and the phone bill, i pay for my own shampoo and conditioner, I buy my own clothes (And i buy my parents clothes too) and i buy my own food. Im going for my drivers license soon, and am saving up for a car. I almost have my life together and am almost ready to move out but hes making it very difficult for me. We get into fights non stop about how lazy i am and how i never help out with the house, even tho that is completely false. I do his dishes everyday and I even went on a cleaning frenzy and cleaned the whole house. Not even a speck could be pointed out. He doesn't even have a job, and all he does is smoke dope in the garage and drives me and my family members to work. We got into a serious fight and he took everything i own away from me. He took my laptop charger, my phone, my ps4, even my DS which i dont use, and even my makeup. Is he legally allowed to do this? Cuz at this point ive just about had enough of this bullshit. I do more than enough to earn my keep here, and i take care of myself. What more does he want from me.

my dad always wears short shorts. yesterday my sisters friends came over, and they were all staring at my dad and giggling and pointing fingers. and when we go to church or the store or something, he wears really short shorts. once i asked my dad to stop wearing short shorts, but he just ignored me. my mom also tried to force him to stop it, but he just ignored her and kept wearing them. recently, i also noticed that he wears bras and women's underwear, and hat he wakes up at 2 in the morning to put on my mom or my sister's makeup, but washes it off about an hour later. i also found his secret instagram account where he posts pictures of himself in short shorts, bikinis, crop tops, etc. should i tell my mom about it? it's not like she can stop him or anything.

So yesterday I didn't want to share my Coca Cola with my sister so my parents got mad and told me that I was going to be homes less when I grow up.. And today this morning they bust into my room and just said once your sixteen you can get the f**k out of my house. Get a paper that let's you leave this house because we don't want you here anymore. My birthday is this June 6th. Also my brother got kicked out as well but when he was 18. He got kicked out for doing drugs but they eventually let him back into the house twice. And he still did drugs and they feel bad for him even though he does drugs. But I'm getting kicked out for literally not letting my sister drink my Coca Cola.... and honestly the mental problems that are happening with me because of them has just gotten up to the point of no return. Is there any paper they can sign so I can leave the house because I want out. They want me out. And I'm done, seriously.

im 46 years old woman married with 4 kids, and my parents still put parental controls on my phone. i tried to remove them, but it requires me to enter the master password, and when i asked my parents for it, they were very suspicious and refused to tell me it. i asked them why, but they told me "im not allowed to question why." they always snoop through my phone, and they constantly show up at my house and demand me to let them in. when they come in, they snoop through all my stuff, including my laundry, my trash, my devices, and my drawers. my mom even goes through the bedsheets to see if "my kids fap". for every item in my search history, my parents interrogate me about it. like i was looking up pad thai recipes the other day, and my dad asked me if "i'm a lesbian that wants to watch thai women put on their pads." or when i looked up graphing calculators (my oldest son will be taking calculus next year), my parents asked me "why i was looking up graphic images" and they hit me. when i told them my son was going to take calculus, they didn't believe me and they stripped me and my husband, diapered us, and stuck pacifiers in our mouths in front of our 4 kids. then they made us crawl around and say "goo goo gah gah". our kids were mortified, and im so humiliated.

im a 16 year old girl, and i just finished junior year. my mom is a single mom, and i have an 11 year old sister. ever since i was in 2nd or 3rd grade, my mom would make me sit on her lap. she would make me sit on her lap in front of her computer when i do my homework, so she can help me when i need help. but when i started high school, my mom still made me sit on her lap when i do my homework. when we eat, my mom also puts a bib on me and puts me on her lap and she feeds me with a fork and spoon. my mom can easily put me on her because im only 5ft1 and weight 95 lbs, while she's 5ft9 and weighs 170-ish. at night, my mom makes me sleep with her. she says that i'll get separation anxiety if i don't sleep with her. she snores really loud, and she keeps moving around on the bed, and it drives me nuts. once i went downstairs to sleep on the couch, but she found out and dragged me back up to sleep with her. she also follows me to school and puts me on her lap in all my classes, and she bounces me up and down and sings me nursery rhymes, which is very humiliating. on the other hand, my sister never has to do all this. she can sit by herself and sleep by herself. neither of us have special needs, anxiety, disabilities, etc., and i do much better than her in school. so two questions: 1. why does my mom do this to me? whats wrong with her? 2. why doesn't my mom do this to my sister? favoritism? 3. my mom won't let me move out or call the cps/cops. what should i do? i meant THREE questions

I hide my food from my brother and my family. I want to save some food that either I have bought or my grandmother have bought for ME. Today was the last straw. I kept my money savings for some food because we were going on a trip. When it was time for the trip, my brother ate all my food but still had his own. He does things to bother the family. He lies saying he didn't eat our food but we catch the evidence on his bed. He lies, steals, and is very annoying. How can I stop my brother from eating our food before we have nothing left?

They had me when they were 21/23 so idk why they feel the need to monitor my sexual habits at my age. I don't live at home, am financially independent of them, they actually rely on me financially so I really feel they need to respect boundaries

I'm 17 and two years ago my dad lost his job and was struggling financially. I had some money saved up and he asked to borrow it and I let him. He continued to have issues and continued to borrow money till I had no more. He owes me over $700. That might not seem like a lot to some people but I'm just a teenager and I've never had a job so it took years to get this much money saved up. He never really got a stable job again but I'm going into college in the fall and need that money soon for a new computer or textbooks and stuff. I've asked him multiple times but every time he deflects it and we move on to something else. I'm not asking for it all at once and I've even suggested $20 or $40 every month or paycheck or something but he still refuses.

We seldom see this aunt cause she is cruel and the outsider of my Mom's family. Yet, she is gossiped about regularly so I hear all this. My Mom's family plays favorites as well and she is the black sheep. She can be cruel to people though like calling her niece "ugly and fat" when her niece told her she ought to be kinder to the black sheep son in her family. Some say she is a narcissist but I don't see her enough to know if that is true.

I didn't live with both my parents I used to live with my grand parents, because we were poor, and they had to work so they would pay for me and my siblings. I never had quality times with my parents, my dad used to work in another state. I saw my mom but she used to work so I rarely saw her. No one pampered me at my grand parents house I always felt neglected, they never praised me for a nice drawing I had or for anything good I did. I always felt bad and I wasn't doing well at school, they used to compare me all the time to my siblings saying they are more intelligent. I felt bad as school as well I used to be bullied because I wasn't pretty, I was chubby, used to wear glasses, no one took care of me, so I didn't wash my face or brush my teeth as a kid, my clothes were messy. I was very naive that I had no friends, the girls used to dislike me for no reason and they played with their original dolls, and when I tried to play with them with my cheap doll, they refused. A girl locked me before in a bathroom, and she told me I should either give her the pocket money I had and my food or I should take off my clothes or she would lock me in the bathroom I was so scared of her, I didn't tell anyone till today that this happened. Another girl, as well had put my exam paper in my backpack and my exam got cancelled, so my dad went to the school to explain to them that another girl did that to bully me. And, I felt that no one believed me.

I'm overwhelmed with my current living situation. I live with my fiance and his family and it is.. terrible. I am a young mom in her early 20's to a 1 year old with no job or license.(Live off of fiances ssi currently ) We live 40 miles outside of the city and we hardly ever go out(only for appts or shopping.)All we do is sit around all day, day after day and take care of our daughter, unless his stepmom asks him to do some bs work for no pay. I can't take it anymore. It's affecting me emotionally to the point of where I don't feel like my old self. I'm angry almost all the time and I'm dealing with a handful of a toddler who is currently throwing multiple tantrums a day. I think it's affecting her too. I'm stuck. I know my mom would let my daughter and I move in, but I haven't asked her. She's been busy with a lot of stuff after her dad died last year from dementia. I'm afraid of that and the reaction of my fiances family. My fiance is mentally disabled and I don't know if they would let him leave. His dad is his guardian and handles everything for him. I really want to start getting a job and my license so I can move ahead with life. Living where I am isn't living. Its pure hell. What do I do? :(

Like every time she goes out, for example one day I had to take to hospital because she had a bruised up face (black eye, swollen, bruised and grazes) and then yesterday she had a bruise down the side of her neck. so for my own peace of sanity I stopped talking to her. My dad and my older brother are always fighting and dont get along with each other. I'm 14 and my brother is 16. Sometimes if they get in a heated argument my dad ground my brother and makes my brother take his 'flight pills' (I dont know what they're call but they make you sleep though plane flights for like jetlag) because brandon used to run away after those kids of argument. So dad usually tells him to take 1, sleep on it, and that they'll talk about it (whatever the argument is about) in the morning. My family and friends are constantly calling me a baby. We had a BBQ this weekend and invited some new people and pretty much all of my friends and family addressed me as "the baby". My aunt even punched my cheek. I get I'm one of the youngest in the family but my sister has a daughter who is actually a baby. Plus, I'm 18. For 125 a week, my best friend and her parents are letting me stay at her house until school ends. My parents can not spend that much money for me to stay another year, I hate sharing a room and bed with her, and it's difficult to go the doctors, drive, or get a job in someone else's household. I'm scared to tell her that I want to move to Texas with my parents because she sometimes reacts irrationally and she really had her heart set on me living here until graduation. I'm scared she will get mad at me or I'll cave when she tries to talk me into staying here.

She continued yelling and took my phone (not my iPad) a couple mins later. What should I do. Things that don't involve the authorities. I'm 13.

First year student in very prestigious college. I have been doing very badly and I am currently on academic probaiton, meaning I can't go back next semester. I did badly because I was ill for most of the year. Diagnosed with really bad ADD and had to have several surgeries. My family found out about it and basically disowned me, so I don't really have anywhere to go or anyone to call. I am very broke and I can't seem to find a job (or a place to live) and I don't know what to do about school. Friends are slowly shunning me and my boyfriend left me for someone else. What do I do? Someone please help me brainstorm. I actually have no idea what to do at this point.

My sister is naturally skinny and my mother wants her to be as big and fit as her siblings - who are ALL boys, btw. We're a family of 4 boys and 1 girl (her). She sacrifice my happiness and respect for other people's amusement. She would lie about how she has been teaching me for years when its only the first day. Whenever I make a little mistake she will purposefully in front of the customers say that I'm retarded and stupid and that she has been teaching me the same thing for a year. Really? It's only been a day. A ******* DAY. And what's worse? The customers are really rude, they laugh along because my sister say all those nasty things about me they think it's okay to laugh at me and also insult me. I look like a pushover. I look very nice and quite, I hate that. And my sister just has to step in every single time when I learn something new and don't know how to do it well. Like yesterday we went to Wal-Mart and i scanned the same snack 3 time on accident and she bragged to a Wal-Mart worker about how stupid i am. And surprisingly, the asshole ******* laughed and agreed by not standing up for me.

Okay so last week, I went to pick up my little brother from school. I usually pick him up when I'm home and he loves it when I do it (he's attached to me). So what happened was that I had a minor accident and we fell down... Although he wasn't hurt badly or anything because I sheltered him but now he cries when he sees my bike and doesn't come near me. Bike permits are given at the age of 17 with parental consent of course. Apologies... I forgot to mention, he's in 2nd grade so he is six and my mother takes him to school, she is a house wife... I'm a student myself but when I'm home, I drop him and pick him up.

for those who are wondering how i have come to this decision, please read the paragraph below. i have had a rough past with my family, unfortunately suffering because of their own mistakes and issues. my mother, who will always make irresponsible decisions, yet has motherly love. a father who lacks understanding and communication, yet responsible. i have come to a conclusion that living with either has its flaws or perks. my mother, having issues with letting people over. my father, he does not understand how to raise a daughter. many arguments/situations often end with me suffering somehow, even if it were to be just speaking up about something. he has no respect for me. for 3 years i have been able to live with my mother for a year, then my father, then my mother. i was asked by a family member if i could be her roommate. ill be 16 and she'll be 18, therefore the tenancy will be in her name. my mother, who has full custody, is entirely fine with allowing this. i will have a steady job 7 months prior, using that money to get a car. my grades are all A's and B's. yet, my father refuses to allow me. he has never been married to my mother and his name is not on my birth certificate. however, that's where the going back and forth between him and my mother has a say. even despite it only being permission to live with my father, and no court documentation that it is a joint custody, does that mean he still has a say? my father will be living 1000 miles away from me, always has.

I live in an area where minimum wage wont sustain my living wages. Im obese bc of pcos. I constantly have chest pains from smoking. I quit smoking. My arm hurts all the time from a surgery i had where they cut out a boil the size of a big baseball. I hate going outside bc everyone is super rude in my town. How can i be happy?

At some point, I started realizing that it's unusual. My sister began demanding that Mom isn't allowed to enter her room or use her laptop because she has "secrets" that she doesn't want our mom to know about. My mom obeys her as if she's the kid. I get that she doesn't wanna hurt her feelings, but it seems a little extreme. Somebody once told me that it's unhealthy for both people involved, because a kid isn't suppose to make the rules.
