I wear somewhat weird clothes (the kind adults think of as goth but it's really not at all). I wear little to no makeup (none of that emo eyeliner or anything). I am basically just a nerd with one friend. I'm usually a very happy person, with special exceptions on certain days because who doesn't have those days? But recently I've become somewhat depressed. To start off, I've been wanting to cut my hair short (long pixieish) for a very long time; I have just mustered up the courage to ask for it. I thought that since I make good grades, don't get into trouble, and am a genuinely good person to my peers, my mom might actually let me do it. But, no! She made a big deal about it. She said, "You can't because you're too pretty." I questioned whether or not short hair could be pretty, and she said, "No." I have a necklace with one of my favorite male characters from Attack on Titan (sorry if you don't know what that is; I'm a weirdo), and my mother found it. She said, "Is this why you want to cut your hair? To look like one of those weird Japanese freaks?" Me wanting to cut my hair had absolutely nothing to do with the "weird Japanese freaks." I just wanted short hair because why not? She consistently makes fun of my interests. She loves me; I can see it. She just can't accept that I'm not just like she was. Is there a way I can try to meet at a middle with her to avoid depression? |

We have an Audi Q5, but with three kids, we need a second car since some of us need to be at different places at different times. A hotel company I've started up has become very successful over 2016, so we have plenty of extra spending money for a car. I'm debating now on buying the bmw i8 since it's my dream car, but I'm afraid that it's a bit much now. Some of my concerns are that I don't want people to know me or refer to me by my car or think of me of some rich guy they can be friends with just to freeload on what he has rather than for a meaningful friendship. Also, I'm afraid that if I'm dropping my kids off at school in an i8 will everyone else is pulling up in Toyota camrys and Honda civics that they would treat them differently either in a good or bad way, but if it's in a good way, I don't want that kind of attention to get to their head and think that they're all that at such a young age or even worse get bullied. I love my kids and I want what's best for them but then I think of my high school reunion coming up and I change my mind again. Should I get a different nice car that's down a level? If so any suggestions? Or am I just overthinking this too much and should just go for it? |

They hangout together and don't invite me. I've never done anything wrong so I don't understand why they can't invite me. When they do wanna hang I think they use me because I can give them rides. Sometimes I feel like I could just stop replying to everyone and just be alone and meet new friends in college (I left high school this year to do independent high school). Any thoughts on this? |

On the first day of school this year they had other people take my place at lunch and they kicked me out. Also, whenever I am around and if I say something they all start whispering about me. I've noticed that when she and my other friend, let's say Jenny, and I sit together during lunch, I get tuned out. That doesn't bother me, they seem to have more in common. It just bothers me that they don't try to talk to me with anything that might be something I can talk about. But okay, so Jamie always seems to be undermining me. Whenever we have a discussion on something like politics or singers, or our grades, she seems to have the intent to one up me. When I ask her to explain something, she treats me as if I'm a child. Like today I asked something related to the Republican's being a majority in the house because I know she's more interested in this stuff than me, she say's stuff like "You don't understand anything" or just shoots me a demeaning look. Idk if that may sound stupid, but its consistently happening. Whenever I say I love to write or talk about a book I'm reading, she say's she's really great at writing and has read all those books before. When I get a good grade and decide once in a blue moon to mention it, she say's she that she has a higher average in said class. Whenever we get into a debate, she attacks me not my idea, she say's I can never admit when I'm wrong, when in reality that's a solid description of herself. Idk if I'm taking this too seriously, and idk if this seems ridiculous, but I just need advice from someone who doesn't mind helping a kid with her small problems. |

Posted: 06 Jan 2017 04:11 PM PST A couple years ago I had a really intense almost romantic friendship with a girl that got sort of too intense too quick, and basically after months she told me she had a girlfriend the whole time who she told about me and some things we would privately discuss...and that bothered me so much that after trying to sort of get myself to be trusting again in that friendship and pretending not to be bothered by it for a couple more months I just suddenly blocked her and deleted her number without even explaining why. I feel bad because even though I know it was fair to feel upset by that I still should have just been direct with her about how I felt instead of just suddenly disappearing. It has been over a year since we talked and our mutual friend is friends with her online. Should I send her a message just explaining what happened and apologizing for not confronting her about it or should I leave her alone so it doesn't seem like I'm trying to butt back into her life? |

The vice principle said that people have been coming in all week complaining about me. I had NO idea I was offending people, and if people would of said to stop the joking around, your taking it too far, I would have stoped ASAP. I just lost my closest friend to this. I quit my job and slept in a rented office to develop the tech and freelanced. After year that dried up so I did odd jobs. Then the landlord found out I was sleeping in the building and kicked me out; So, my partner let me stay in one of his flipped houses and now he is giving me a living allowance. All of this has been nearly 3 years. The guy is great and we have made a great deal of progress. He as spent nearly $15k on hardware. But there is still months to go before we see money. I'm not comfortable freeloading like this and my health has really declined. So, I want to quit and help him find a replacement. He would have to pay them, but he's virtually paying me now and he when then own the tech 100%. I can't buy him out because i'm broke. |

I had all my friends there and I was a really out going person I never really felt sad I was one of the popular kids in school and people trusted me a lot I did have it hard at home my father was abusive but I had a lot of really good friends. When we moved i changed so much. It was hard to make friends. I had a completely new environment and new people. After that I've been moving around a lot but never back to where I was born. The coach announced that a few of us were going to his wake instead of practice in a couple of days and assumed that I was going (since I ve been on the team with him since we were younger.) Posted: 06 Jan 2017 01:22 PM PST My mother had got married a little late and hence she was a little older and looked very old in comparison to my classmates mothers.So one day I was shocked to the heels when while discussing certain things with my friends during a school lunch break, the conversation became about parent's age and my best friend all of a sudden told to my face that my mom looked very old.He even went on to enquire-"what's her age?she is fifty three right?"At that time my mom was 44 and I was 16.I was shocked to the extreme and for a many seconds didn't know what to reply.Later from home , I was all the time thinking about it and felt really angry and sad. My mother's long hair had started falling out long back and by the time I crossed high school, it was reduced to a small knot and one of my friends even made fun of that by telling me that my mother had almost no hair and the hair which remained on her head was entirely grey.My mother avoids hair dye. And I dont want her to use hair dye or any other cosmetic products which is not suitable for her health. I love her so much.But how should I deal with my arrogant friends who consider themselves blessed to have young looking mothers? I can't help but get annoyed when couples or newly dating friends I know imitate what I do or take ideas I've talked about. It's Iike they want to make me feel that they can do what I do and have a partner. Being single doesn't look so good. I was a former basketball player at my last school. Now I m going to my new school to play forward/center. My teammates seem to adjust to me pretty well, but there is one particular player who isn t really opening to me. Why? Idk she doesn t say anything to me when I speak to her she doesn t speak back we play the same position. The other post players speak to me and have no problems with me but it s just her. We say in the same apartment together and it s kind of awkward. We both work at a restaurant and I had started to feel like she's attracted to me because of some signs that she's lately been randomly throwing out. Signs like buying me things, getting all close and personal sometimes, staring at me constantly, telling me I'd make great money as a stripper, and even seeing me with a female friend and asking me who she was, that if she was a friend or more, etc etc. So yeah signs but because she's taken and I've gotten strong gut feelings telling me to stay away, I've been doing just that. If it's not work related, I ignore her. I greet her and what not but I pay her. I mind and she's tried to get my attention many times. The other night, she walked all the way to where I was sat at and grabbed the phone there and started talking on it, I don't even pay much attention then I walk away for like 5 minutes to get some food. When I come back, she's already gone, done on the phone and sitting where she was before. I ask cause another coworker did that before. Started talking about some guy in front of me then when I walked away, she stopped. But is this one with the boyfriend trying to make me jealous? When I walked by afterwards, she started talking about whoever. Again though, I didn't care. But I'm curious. I did have feelings before but they're gone. |

I have no friends at school because everyone there is two faced and rude. I have only gone to school 2 days out of 4 this week. It's hard to see my boyfriend because he goes to school & has 2 jobs. usually he gets off of work at 10PM. i Also at this new school he goes to, he can't bring his phone on campus. I sat in the office wednesday and did some of my work from my classes because i knew i was going to be crying all day & i didn't want to cry in front of everyone. I feel like I'm a CODEPENDENT person. I have no friends at that school. I will be going to that school with nobody to talk to for the next 5 months. Everything i do reminds me of him. we had 3 periods together and each of the periods i look at his seat and he's not there. I use to stand with him in the lunch line, and he's not there with me. We've only been together for 3 months and i feel like this. This guys is my bestfriend. We're both seniors in high school. I don't feel normal. All i have been doing is crying and laying in bed wishing that he wouldn't have got kicked out. Instead of hanging out with him during break and lunch laughing and having a good time, i go to a teachers classroom and sit there on my phone doing nothing. The counselor knows what i'm going through, she knows how much we both like eachother. |

Fast forward a year later, other friends who I am extremely close with have recently gotten engaged. I am happy for them all and with one friend have been asked to be a bridesmaid. Now the other friend who I am just as close with did not choose me as a bridesmaid but rather the friend who betrayed me a year ago and are only recent friends due to their SOs being friends so they see each other frequently. I don't want to sound childish and say she HAD to pick me but this decision has just made me realize I had different views on what I thought our friendship was compared to her. She did ask me to be a part of the ceremony and to read something but I feel that I should respectfully decline mainly due to the fact that since I am not a good enough friend to be in the party I shouldn't have to go out of my way for her. I just feel absolutely blindsided and hurt that my friend of over 12 years just doesn't view our friendship as I have. And to boot the girl she did pick over me, the bride told me a year ago she never could stand her. She literally picked everyone she is close with or recently close with and not me so naturally I'm hurt. |

We used to hang out with a group of friends before, which is probably why I never noticed this before. She is tall, thin, blonde. We are both intelligent and good people. Whenever we go out, men will lurk around her, others will blatantly talk to her saying how pretty she is in front of me or other women. I am attractive, but to superficial people, I don't fit the typical standards of beauty as far as skin and hair color, etc. I have better encounters with men when I'm on my own. She is aware of the superficial guys, but she doesn't shy away from basking in male attention. She can even be a bit competitive. Problem is, I feel like my self-esteem gets a punch in the gut when I go out with her. I see how discriminating and rude people can be. I don't envy her. She is a really nice, accepting person. I don't have control of the kind of people we encounter. But being a single woman looking for potential dates, I feel my chances are diminished when I accept her invitations to go out. I enjoy her company otherwise. How should I deal with this? |

She eventually apologized aND said she the joke would not have bothered her if she was still in a relationship. I on the other hand am very liberal and believe that everyone no matter their skin, race etc should be treated with respected. I abhor discriminatory comments and was so surprised with the words that actually came out of my best friend's mouth. So we were at a theme park waiting our turn for one of the rides and there was a cute interracial couple in front of us (for simplicity's sake the guy was white and the girl was black). They were doing normal couple things like hugging, kissing etc and then the girl started to caress the guy's face. I thought nothing of it except that they clearly love each other and enjoy each other's company, then I hear my friend exclaim with disgust that she would never let a black person touch her face because she feels like their hands are dirty and asked me whether I felt the same way to which I politely replied no and avoided further discussion since I'm a non-confrontational person and hate sparking disagreement. I always knew she didn't really like to associate with other races but I never knew she could have such hate in her heart to say such a thing. I should mention it is probably because of her upbringing since her mother thinks black people are quote "monkeys" and this makes me look down on them a lot. I really love her and she is a great friend but I'm not sure I can deal with her views any more. How could I approach the situation without her dismissing me? |

I'm still getting to know her but I already consider her as a friend. Our dance group consists some of the popular girls in our school, and last time I check I've never done anything to them and I always treat everyone with respect and kindness. I was kind of late to that practice, so I arrived some time later and we practiced for an hour before going home. Then just today, my best friend who is also there told me that three girls (one of them is the girl I considered my friend) talked **** about me. She told me this one girl said that I always ask dumb questions and I annoy her for some reason, and the other backed her up. Like guys seriously, this is the first time I ever heard someone backstab me. And like I said, I've never done anything to them like AT ALL. I even helped that girl 'friend' by writing her report and lending her my stuffs, but then realized she talks **** behind my back. Then I realize they might have just showed their true colors. I know it's dumb. I'm so glad my best friend told me about this, and I felt kind of hurt too. My mom doesnt like givinf rides so I told her id wait to ask, but then someone offered a ride. We both got a ride from the same person, but then she keeps saying how im a liar and pulled up texts as 'evidence' how i said ill ask my mom. Then i asked my club if i could invite some ppl to this outing cuz it was a fun event and the prez said it was fine and my friend was there. She later said it was wrong for me to invite my friends and they were just saying it to be nice, amd kept saying im responsible for the ppl i invite. Idk lately its been so tense between us, and then she tells me her mom doesnt like me. Her mom thinks im too loud, even tho i always greet her politely. I dont really get it,like im always pissed at her and shes so passive aggressive all the time. Shud i just stop being friends? |
