About 1 year ago my mum got a new boyfriend. That's probably about a year since she's slept at our house, every night she is at his house and when she's not, she's messaging him or in an argument with him. The thing is that I miss my mum and I want to be here to do the simple things like iron our school uniform and make sure I'm safe when I go to sleep. I don't know Wether this is normal and I should accept this because of my age (15) or maybe it's wrong? I see all of my friends have their mum message them and make sure they're in by a certain time but with my mum she doesn't do that. Every time I try to talk to mum about this she gets defensive and is in denial. I don't know what to do anymore, I don't even have a dad to fall back on for advice

I wish my family would die. I'm 12 years old (I turn 13 in a few weeks) and my family are all messed up *****. For the past like six months, I've had this never ending hatred for my parents and my brother. I think my brother has some kinda mental disorder. He always talks to people in his room when they're no one there. Like not on FaceTime or anything, he'll just be having a conversation with his imaginary friend. He's 16 by the way. It's not ******* normal? My parents have been married for 22 years today actually and I can't stand them. I can't talk to them about any of my problems because my dad's a racist, islamophobic, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic ****. I hate him. He prefers my brother way more to me just because he's more "masculine" than me, even thought he only stopped drinking out of a sippy cup a couple of years ago (true fact, he wouldn't drink out of a glass until he was 14). And for my mum, she's just pathetic. She married that miserable asshole and goes along with everything he does. My best friend, Libby, her parents are just so much better. They're about the same age as mine but they're just so much less irritating and have such a different approach to raising their child then my parents. I just want some advice on how to deal with these ***** because whether I like it or not, I'm living with these people for at least another four years so what do I do. And please don't say like "just accept this is good parenting" and ****.

This all started when my sisters moved and my uncle started hating on them calling them drug addicts and potheads and my mom always defended them but some how he gets my moms other sister to turn on her and since we live with my aunt he wants to get her to kick us out of the house and he really gets on my nerves and he says that my mom doesn't help her even though she pays bills for the house too and not only that he also hates me and he told my aunt to kick us out before I graduate high school and it really bothers me because a couple years ago my mom had a stroke and she couldn't work anymore and my dad left when I was 1 and my aunt had a safe with money in it and someone "robbed" her and the first thing my uncle said it was either me or my sisters I'd like to talk more but it'd way to long all I ask is someone plz help

Last night, for example, I simply asked where the lightbulbs were. He was really grumbly, and when he's like that that's when you back off so I did. Apparently he started saying something but I didn't hear him as I started walking away which prompted him to scream at me and cuss me out, calling me names because I guess he thought I was purposely ignoring him which I tried to explain that I wasn't and that I simply didn't hear him. He wouldn't listen though and continued yelling at me (and when he yells, he YELLS and it scares me). This type of **** happens all the time and I'm sick of it and I want to get out, only I'm really struggling with finding a job and... I'm just lost. The worst part is, my mom always tries to defend his behavior and actions by turning it back on me and basically calling me an ungrateful child because he's paid for my education. Which, I am grateful for, but... being constantly yelled at and called such horrible names by your father is emotionally draining and I'm sick of it... What should I do?

Question: How to deal with family members who feel their time is more valuable than yours? And how to deal with them if they're your parents?!?

My parents have been mentally, emotionally, and sometimes physically abusive my entire life. Their whole philosophy is, it's all about them. If they don't feel like driving somewhere or doing something, they absolutely WILL NOT do it - but if they ask someone else to do it, they better do it immediately or, if we don't, it means we "don't love them." I'm just wondering how to deal with people like this instead of just ignoring it. Because honestly I don't know if I can handle it anymore. For example...they could ask me to pick my sister up from somewhere and bring her back to their house (I don't live with them). Even if I can't for legitimate reasons (like work or an appointment) they still get angry and act like I'm "oh so selfish" that I can't drop everything and drive around the county for them! Do you have any suggestions for how to deal with someone like this? Thanks. When you're constantly being told "you're ungrateful," "you're a horrible daughter," "you don't care enough about others," etc, it kind of starts to wear you thin and you begin to wonder if you really are all those terrible things!

my dad has just left for a new country to live in for work and so we ft him every single day. today, i was watching a show with my mom and i have to go practice my violin after 2 episodes. i ate food up there and she said i could clear my plates after the second episode. my dad calls and all of a sudden my mom asks me to clear my plates, i say but you told me i could clear it after this episode and she says yes but i told you to clear it and you never did! and im like you never even said that. now im not watching the last episode because i cant stand my mom. i wish my mom left for work and not my dad because i like my dad not my mom because i can stand my dad. now my mom is saying oh my gosh i love her and ill try my hardest with you gone. i will do you proud and **** like that. shes talking **** about me with my dad, that is literally all she says about me, **** after ****, after ****. i cant stand her and she makes no effort to see how arrogant and ignorant she actually is.

So I am 19 a year old community college student with a job. I have saved up enough money to buy my own car without having my parents pay a dime. I could have just went out and bought a car without passing it by them first but I didn't. Last night I mentioned to to them that I would like your advice on which car would be best. My mom's response your not getting a car thats a stupid idea. My mom also thinks that I am not an adult and I can't do things without their permission. She also thinks that she needs to control my bank account and give me money when I need it. I have my own bank account under my name, she is not getting access to it. They also found out that I got myself a P.O box and they keep on forcing me to close it. Every few weeks they ask me if I closed it and I say no I am not closing it, I pay for it, its under my name I have every right to keep it open. Is she going a bit overboard?

These are all separate occasions .So when I was 5 I kept asking my dad could he put on the simpsons & he got so angry at me he punched a hole in the kitchen door, he threatened to burst my f***** door down once,when he would get angry at me as a youngster he would shout at me so loud!! And scream names like "ungrateful B****" and f****** *****,he dragged me by my jacket and pulled me out of my room and start shouting at me for crying, he forced me to spend a day with him and my mam before when I really did not want to and out in public he punched me twice on the arm hard (I was so embarrassed and my arm was red), one night when I asked a few times could I go to a friends house for the night he got so angry at me and start screaming shut up soo loud over and over even my mam had to say calm down ,he takes no interest in what ever I do when I try tell him he won't listen , I suffer from depression and anxiety and have been receiving help for the last 2 years and he got angry with me recently & told me that there was nothing wrong with me and that I was just bad,when I went on a school trip abroad last year (in the midst of my depression ) he didn't ask me one question about my trip and didn't even speak about it to me . Is this bad abuse? Opinions?

She's been talking about how she hates life for the past few days. We're lower-middle class and my dad works a lot because well we don't have a lot of money, and his car recently broke so he had to work more and longer to make up the money lost, much to my mother's discontent as it's is mother's day weekend. I recently had a fight with her because I told her she's wrong about something and I used a "disrespectful tone" and she won't talk to me. My sister is mad at her being mad and is yelling at my mom about her attitude. For the last half hour or so, she's had her head in her arms on the table, not saying anything or making an noise. I can't make her anything because I have no time, can't buy her anything because I have no money, and I can't help her with anything because again I have no time (two essays and two tests). I'm already depressed from school, many minor medical conditions, and my social life, and I don't think losing two people in this family is good. I don't even bother saying I love her or I appreciate you anymore. When I do she just tells me to shut up and says that she knows I'm lying. She gets even more upset. What should I do?

I cant even begin to list all of the problems that this family faces. My brother at age 28 is fresh out of jail for drugs who refuses to work an hourly job constantly begging money off my parents is also very lazy sleeps most of the day or watches movies and wont do anything to help my parents out. he has wrecked every vehicle that he has driven whether its his or my parents. my dad is a workaholic and had 101 projects to do every day and always expects everyone around him to jump up and help him. he is a difficult man to work with. my mother is one of the biggest problems because she is always trying to protect my brother. she is the one who always lets him move back in, pays his phone bills, power bills tickets, court fines and every other pickle he gets in to. she sides with him when my dad tries to put a stop to his reckless behavior and gets angry at my father for him telling me about what's going on. I try to live my life and not let them get to me but i'm the only one my dad feels he has now because my mom and brother are always ganging up against him. I am the only one who has to try and figure out all their drama. even when I try to tell my parents how to fix the issues they never take my advice and the same pattern repeats for eternity. I know I cant fix it by my self and I understand that is not my responsibility. how can I make by brother grow up and see the detriment he had become to my parents and this family? Today she wanted to go out to eat and shop with us (her kids). I immediately turned down the offer as I have a finals in the next few days and would like to study as much as possible. My younger sister did as well as she too has a final this coming Monday. However my mother threw a fit stating we were only thinking about ourselves and began spewing a lot of ugly things about us. I don't understand why she is so upset. She also places a lot of emphasis on doing well in school. If we get anything below a 95 she starts yelling at us that we'll never get anything in life if we continue getting those types of grades. We are not geniuses. We are not naturally gifted people. In order to get those grades we need to put A LOT of effort into our studies. In my opinion, she is the one who is only thinking about herself. It's very stressful trying to make her happy. We've spoken to her about how she hurts us by speaking to us like that and she says sorry, that she doesn't mean it, and that she won't do it again, but low and behold a few days later she's at it again. What exactly does she want from us? It hurts me when she starts crying and says we don't love her. I do love her. Whenever I take a "break" from studying, I clean the house for her and make sure my other siblings are fed so that she doesn't have to worry about it. I don't know what to do.

I'm a 14 year old girl. I've always shared a room with one of my sisters, but I've always wanted a room of my own. My older just moved out of the house. My parents are giving me his old room (YES!!!). It's right next to my parent's room. For the first few days I had the room my parents would just talk before going to bed. I wasn't interested and didn't pay attention. However, the other day they were making unusual noises. I figured out they were doing it. The thought of my parents doing it is absolutely sickening. I just can't think of my parents as that way/being that way. I guess I know they are, but I hate thinking about it. What's more is they're apparently into BDSM. I don't want to go into detail, but both my parents were really dirty (especially my mom). Hearing your dad talked about the way my mom was talking about him made me hurl inside more than ever. I tried to not listen, but I couldn't drown it out. When my mom told my dad to turn over so she could suck his behind I decided I'd sleep on the couch. I really want my own room, but I never want to hear any of that again. I want to remain as ignorant of my parents' sex life as possible. I feel super awkward talking about it though. I need to change her mind before she makes a decision. My dad is the most disgusting person i have ever seen and i have been all over the internet. We were best friends until a bunch of bullies set me up who pretended to be friend with my Ex Bff. They made her into a different person and, because I was feeling suicidal I lashed out at her and hurt her feelings. We were both naïve and kept hurting each other with our actions.. I was out with my friends and we was hungry. We was relatively near to my house so I called my mom to make extra food cuz me and my 2 friends was coming to eat. We got there like 30 minutes later And guess what she'd made?? Nachos, but not normal nachos. It was the crazy carrot nachos she does. She cuts carrots into little discs and bakes them with cheese and jalapeños. And vegetable soup. It was so embarrassing. And I toad her how much she sucked. And she got real mad. I'm black and my older brother is black and forces me to have sex with him as a kid so I can play his games. He tricked me and took an advantage of me. She stayed with him and covered for him. He is dead now and I am 47 but I still can't trust my mother. She believes me but always says to this day "it was an illness he had like someone who gets depressed" and I find that an insult to anyone with depression. How do I get over this? I love my mother but am so mad she stayed with him. She even weeped at his funeral when he died 9 years ago showing no remorse for what he did to me. He is in hell now forever so I have more anger at my mother who is still living as my step-father now has reeped what he sowed. I also feel angry because I never had a protective father. My own father divorced my mother when I was two and only saw us through our grandparents. He (my real father) died, a suicide, when I was 11.

17 years old living with parents in a 2 bedroom apartment. Our bathroom is connected to the master bedroom in which my dad sleeps, my mom sleeps on a couch in the living room. (they re separating) everytime I go in the bathroom he ll claim i m keeping him up because the light shines from under the door into his room, when i put a towel down to block the light from shining into his room he will get up and go around to the other door to see if I m in the bathroom and then make a big fuss about me being in there so late. He ll get up say "ya ll starting with this bullshit again" and then slam his door really hard. Then he ll get up and run our loud washing machine at 1:00 am out of spite even though he was just claiming he was trying to get some sleep. the wash machine is a lot more disturbing than anything i m doing in the bathroom. I know for a fact that me using the bathroom is not keeping him up because every time I go in the bathroom when he s sleeping it doesn t wake him up, i can still here him snoring when I come out of the bathroom. He has to make an effort to see that i m in the bathroom and then makes all this noise. This happens every time i use the bathroom at night without fail. Oh and he can curse or do whatever but if i say a word he doesn t like he ll get in my face like he s gonna hit me or something. I said the word piss one day and he acted like he was gonna beat me up. What should I do until my living situation changes? He'll get mad even when I use a flashlight, just the idea of me using the bathroom past a certain time that he deems acceptable makes him upset. Even though he uses the bathroom at the same time of night or later.

All anyone ever really does is try to make me feel guilty. My family especially, and I don't have any friends. She is not poor by any means. She makes allot of money. She was also kind of rude to me telling my dad that it is not his responsibility for my paypal card and that they will put me away and that i will have to work on a farm. My friends all say that they've cussed in front of their parents and their parents don't care. If I cussed in front my parents, especially my dad, they would get mad and tell me to never do that ever again. And they're allowed to have crazy parties and stuff with their parents' permission and have boys sleep over and stuff. If I asked my mom if I could have a party with alcohol and stuff she'd slap me and they'd have a fit if they ever saw a boy sleeping over in the house. They'd be so angry if I came home drunk. And my friends say that they hide their report cards from their parents and stuff, but I could never get away with something like that. My mom is always getting on my case about doing my homework and that I'd better finish all my homework and get good grades. They also never let me skip school unless I'm REALLY sick, and if I try to beg them they just tell me to get dressed because I must go to school and we're not discussing it. I'm not allowed to go out on weekdays and if I ask my parents are always like "don't you have a test to study for?' or 'don't you have homework that needs doing?' I even heard my friend on the phone with her mom and she was raising her voice to her and stuff. I would NEVER get away with something like that. Why are their parents so lenient?

I am 13 and I have a sister that is 7 and another that is 11 . All three of us share a room , and we all Have separate desks however , whenever I am not home my 7 yr old sister always steal my stuff. And whenever. I find something missing it s already all ruined and broken . And I can t lock my room because we share one , and I can t locked all my things up because I don t have room to do it and it s just not like a home if I have master locks everywhere . My folks are a bunch of jerks ! They have t adopted the universal law and are treating me like i am living 2000 years ago ! We live in a mixed society so at school i have many Muslim and Jew friends they are the most nicest people i know they are always helpful and are very intellegent but my parents have forbidden me to talk to anyone other than the kids from Church and they are always talking weird and and illocal things and have no respect ! My parents have banned cool movies like Batman and Jurassic Park and make me watch brainwashing christian tv shows where they dont make any sense in what they are saying ! A background info before I explain what happened: last year on mothers day me and my brothers git her a teddy bear, roses, and a cake. All her friends were putting up photos on social media about what they got for mother's day, and i guess what we got her wasn't enough, so she went and got a purse she had recently bought and added it to the pile, telling her friends that we also got her a purse. So yesterday my little brother wanted to go with me and my older brother to get her stuff, and my mom said he can't go with us bc she's scared or whatever. And idk what he told her, but my mom said, "why'd you tell him he can go without even asking me?" So I confronted him and asked him when I said that, so this was his response: "YOU'RE SUCH A LIAR I NEVER SAID THAT YOU LIAR, ALL YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IS LIE YOU LIAR" So then I started screaming at him (and my mom heard him say all of that and didn't even say anything) so then my mom's like, "Fine, no one's allowed to get me anything tomorrow!" And I'm like "you're saying this as though it's a punishment. You're the one who's gonna end up with no gifts, not us" and she said "I don't care, I don't want any gifts" and I'm like, "yeah right, as if you're gonna accept the fact that you'll have nothing to say to your friend's when they ask you what your kids got for you" so then she's like, "oh yeah? Fine, if you get me something, I'm gonna rip it is and take away your phone, even if it's just a card!" And now I'm not getting her anything

Where do I even begin... I called my mother in reference to Mother's Day and what my fiance and myself could bring. She responds with "Well we didn't know he was coming, thought that you would be smart enough to know that it is "Mother's Day" and he isn't invited" I was under the assumption that since we are engaged it was a given that he was included in "family" gatherings. Am I wrong on this? I spend countless hours listening to my mother complain about how our "family" isn't really a family because they all are rude to her husband (my stepdad) for no reason and never want him at family get together, but I am pretty sure that is exactly what they are doing to my fiance. What would you do? Would you stand up to this and not go? I am a mother myself so this is my day also, why wouldn't I want my fiance there to celebrate with me? My fiance lost his mother a few years back and this holiday is already hard for him, what kind of significant other would I be by making him stay home alone on an already hard day? I don't know what to do, if I don't go it is viewed by them as me throwing a tantrum, not me standing up for something. And if I say anything back I get the wrath of hell from them because they act more like pissed off teenagers than adults. What do I do?

My brother is around 23 years old, and as the story has it, he's the result of my mother getting upset with my father and spending time with another man. That man isn't part of our lives today, so I suppose he's just my half-blood brother. I on the other hand am 14 and a girl. I'm the second to youngest in this somewhat-dysfunctional family. I don't like this guy, or blood relative, whatever. It's not petty reasons like me not getting as much attention from my parents or he bullying me, or anything of that nature. He would know better than to cross me. It's because he's the epitome of irresponsibility that has me fearing of becoming a failure. It has been almost five years since he had kids, and now a year since he's lost ownership of those children. I don't get to see them anymore, and I've bet the older of the three have already forgotten my name. Like me, those kids were born to a smoker parent. What he bothers both my mother AND my father for whenever he can is for money for cigarettes. My mother quit, but he's still at it and smokes three a day as I've heard. His lungs are probably as black as charcoal at this point. Did I mention he's a high school drop out? Sure, he's going to school now but not without running around with another girl and calling what they have "love". I consider my brother pathetic. Even when I was younger and ignorant I considered him more of an uncle than a brother. He's closer to my older sister than me, but that's ideal for me. Am I wrong?

I don't want her destroying relationships I have but people in the her family are uncomfortable seeing her so they aren't able to ask me to stuff or they'd have to ask her and she is a destroyer. Sometimes they do ask me if it is a spur of the moment event but other times I miss out. By they I mean my mother's brothers and their families (she has three brothers). My mother has been like this since I was a kid. She got better for a little while and then a lot worse again after her mother died. Even her own father and step-mother she has hurt. So now that I am an adult and out on my own how do I prevent her from destroying me and my friendships within her family? I am scared she will but I can't insult her publicly as she is my mother and will destroy further if she finds out. I am 25 and out on my own now since age 22.

I'm 15 and my dad drinks alcohol almost every day, but he only gets drunk on the weekends. Yesterday at 3am he came home from being at his friends house and he started throwing plates and screaming. It was really scary (even though I knew he wouldn't hurt anyone) My mom and I has been thinking about moving before and we are looking after a flat again. When I was little I wanted to work in science and I have up until a few years back and now we have to do work experience. I told my mum science or music journalism but the science was just to shut her up, as I really want to work with KERRANG or RockSound. My English teacher tells me that my writing style is very good and I could make a career out of it. She went and talked to my brothers friends dad and was working on getting me an opprutunity to work in a university doing experiments (which I am extremely grateful for her doing) but when I declined and said I wanted to work with KERRANG and would work in radio stations for my work experience she go really mad. She called me lazy and ungrateful then called my dad telling him her side. I think it's because we live in Scotland and KERRANG is down in London. The only reason I have stayed studying science in school is to please her in no way is that ungrateful and it's not like I wouldn't have a backup plan if I can't get into KERRANG. She also calls me an ungrateful lazy fat brat regularly and even though I know I'm healthy my mum saying this really hurts. I have considered running away and killing myself several times and I already self harm and I really don't know what to do. Can someone help me? Thank you so much for taking the time to read this

It doesn't affect me that my parents are older than most other parents, nor am I embarrased. But myself being 15 and my mother being 54, father being 55, and having a sister who is 18, I envy her ad all my other friends with younger parents. It makes me upset and jealous that I most likely have little or less time to be spending with them and everyone else gets to have children with grandparents. I have never met any of my grandparents before as they've all passed away before I was born, and that makes me hope that for one day I want to have a child that can meet someone as amazing and inspirational as my parents are. I want my parents to be in my life, watch me hopefully suceed, and see me walk down the isle on one of the best days of my life. I tell her 'dont say that' calmly when she tells my husband to 'Be quiet!' She obviously learned that from us in the house always having to tell her to be quiet when shes purposely making noise when im on phone etc... My mother stopped talking to her father when I was 8 years old because he was an alcoholic. I was 14 when they started talking again as he was not as severe anymore and my mother's kids were older. I got really close to him for the later years of his life (he lived a long time after that). However, as an adult now I fear daily that I am blamed by my mother's siblings or my cousins for this. None of my mother's siblings did this and they all had kids. My mother always tries to justify it by saying "I was trying to protect you four kids" but that makes me feel like it was my fault and that the extended family must blame me. My mother still claims she did it to protect us and would do it again though she is not as bitter at her father as she used to be. So my question is how do I stop worrying that the extended family must think of me as partially at fault for the 6 year break-up in the family? How do I not let it define my legacy in the family? A similar question was asked on here last night that made me think to ask this but I marked anonymous because of the private nature of the subject.
