i really want to become closer with someone, but i don't know if she wants to back. i struggle to make conversation, even with my own best friend and family. we have a lot in common. we like the same music, we take dance classes together, we are sometimes partners in class. i feel like i always try to say something funny and i make myself look stupid. how can i avoid this, and in the end become good friends?

I'm a 17 year old guy and I am so awkward. I have been tested for autism before and I don't have it. I just can't seem to get along very well. When ever I'm with people I'm just so quiet. Then when they try speaking to me I just don't know what to say. I only have 6 friends and even with them I don't know what to do or say I just listen and make small talk.

I went out with this guy and we left our coats in the car when we went to the arcade. So when we were leaving out it was cold outside. I told him it was cold and he put his arm around me. This is a very long story, so I'm going to make it as short as possible. My current roommate and I met during our freshman year of college, (we're sophomores now) and we became friends. We weren't close friends, but we hung out a lot. So we decided to be roommates the following year (now), which went terribly wrong. We share a room (within an apartment - that's just how the campus apartments are set up) and we're not speaking to each other. Anyway we got into another one of our many arguments and we both wrote a letter to each other, and she basically said that she felt unloved and that I never loved her. (The reason why we got into an argument is a long story, so please remain neutral) She's right, I don't and never did love her. We just met last year, became friends, and decided to be roommates. That's it. So I don't know what she meant by "love". I can't ask her because she's not speaking to me. We're both straight.

i'm not entirely sure how to make this seem like i'm not a jerk but i feel like one but here goes. so i have a small group of friends & we meet up every Wednesday just to hang out. but recently i made a new friend group at church & i feel awful because the people at church are a lot more fun & cooler than the other group of friends in my opinion. i know it sounds terrible & i feel terrible. plus the other group of friends is kinda starting to annoy me for lack of a better word & they've been kinda starting to bore me. what do i do???? i feel like i wanna stop going to hang out with the other group but i'd feel even more terrible than i do now if i did that!!! help!!

My best friend is a girl. And I am in love with her. My parents think same gender relationships are gross and I can't just tell her either. I have a girlfriend now but the problem is that i am 28 and i still live with my parents because i started college late and i want to save money. On top of that i have no friends at all and i am a complete loser. She does not know i have no friends yet because i pretend like i do go out with friends and tell past stories. (yea i used to have friends but i was so busy with school they all faded away). It seems like the only way to be her girlfriend is to hang out with her and she HAS to come to my house to spend time but i don't want her to come there because its only me and my mom and its nothing to do there and its so boring. I brought a frenemy they no longer speak to because this friend was putting pills and disgusting in people's drinks. I keep forgetting and bringing them up and getting the person really mad. My best friend and her husband have been very close friends of mine for many years. I consider him to be a very close friend and someone I can talk to, have intellectual conversations, confide in and just hang out with. Some 6 months ago he got terminal cancer. My friend has been devastated. Her husband is going to die. I can not even imagine what she is going through. Let alone him. After I found out I had to travel for a few months and I didn't see them in that time. When I got back the reality of his situation struck me. When I left he was a big, muscular man, still standing strong. When I came back he had lost 40-50 lbs, he was slouching, pale and lost all his hair. It was difficult to see. After that I wanted to spend as much time as possible with them. And my friend needs the support. She has to work and do everything and for him just visiting for an hour now and then makes the difference. He loves to play chess and when I am not working I go and play chess with him. We have deep talks and discuss life, death and love. My bf however thinks I am neglecting him and ignoring my responsibilities to our relationship. I however think he could do more to help me with my friend and her husband. And her husband is his friend to. Have any of you been in this situation? How did you balance everything?

A few weeks back I had to cut ties with a friend who was bullying me. I ignored her messages and she showed up at my social group a week later. She was glaring at me as if she wanted to kill me that night then she made an indirect comment about friends who stab other friends in the back. Then the next day she sent me a sweet text message and I felt guilty so I let her back into my life Since then, I feel like she has tried to turn me against the group and isolated me away from them. I was getting on very well with the group and felt that one of the guys had an attraction to me. I messaged the group asking if we could all put together a gift for someone's birthday. She never replied but everyone else on the group did. Then, she showed up that day with an even bigger gift, as if she tried to outstage me. Then on the day of the birthday I got all dressed up and she saw me and said 'you look like a princess, you always have lots of nice dresses' and she kept trying to take photos of me. The entire day she would try and take photos of me on my own, and photos of everyone else in the group together. I had a photo with her and she said sarcastically 'you always look so nice in photos you make me look like garbage stood next to you.' when I was stood with the group, she invited the guy who I like (and I think is attracted to me) to her house for champagne in front of my face. I got so embarrassed I made an excuse and left Why is she trying to isolate me from my group?

A friend of mine was out at shopping center with his 12-year-old daughter. My friend is usually never mindful when he speaks and it gets him in trouble. Anyway, he and his daughter were sitting at a group of tables outside and he began making fat-shaming comments telling his daughter that fat people are a "bunch of lazy slobs who are a waste of space". However, there was this very large woman nearby who overheard his comment and approached him. The woman confronted my friend and told him she did not take kindly to his comments, but he sarcastically responded with an apology. However, the woman wasn't having it and so she decked him in front of his daughter. My friend ended up with black eye that's nearly swollen shut.

I'm going to community college next year and I'm one of very few of my friends going, the rest are transferring. So my friend has had this crush on a guy for a long time. Let s call this guy Bob. I found out a few days ago that my brother and Bob s brother are friends. So I have this friend that came back into my life after three years of not talking to her and she changed a lot, in a bad way. So I was always told that in college, you make the best friends and everyone is nicer to you and acts mature. For me it's been the exact opposite unfortunately.... My roommates just recently started showing their true colors. They are over sensitive and are very judgmental..I've been basically walking on eggshells and I still manage to make them angry over the slightest things. I've been blamed for their mental health issues and it stresses me out a lot. I am not in anyway bullying them or putting them down, I am actually very nice to them.
