Question: MOTHER-IN-LAW used her SAVINGS for her SON'S WEDDING to help pay for her COUSIN'S DIVORCE? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:24 AM PDT (THIS IS THE INFO) I'm a brother of the bride, and she told me this. So basically, the mother of the groom was collecting her widow's pension and decided a a few months back to put it into a saving's account specifically to help cover for her son's wedding costs (which is about 5 weeks away from the time of this post). About 1 week ago, this ended up surfacing in a conversation between the bride (my sister) and the mother-in-law to be. Mother-in-law ended up admitting through the phone call that she went to the bank and took the savings out (approx $8000) to give to her cousin to help pay for her divorce lawyer costs. Suffice to say, things kinda turned ugly, and there has been a increasing tension between the mother-in-law, bride and groom since. The bride and groom aren't financially able to cover the wedding costs (around $10k) without the help of the savings. They discussed putting off the wedding but decided they must now go through with it having put almost a year of preparation into it. What is your opinion? The son wants to have nothing to do with his mother. Both fathers of the bride and groom are sadly dead. Bride's mother will also be contributing to the wedding costs but only what she can genuinely afford (She's broke). Groom's mother had agreed with groom and bride that she can put her side income (widow's pension) into a saving's account (she has a much more steady income). |
