Question: What can I do when my fiancée's parents want to spend too much on the wedding? Posted: 08 Apr 2017 11:15 AM PDT We set the date for February of next year. I'm not too particular about what kind of a wedding we have, as long as it's in an optimally convenient location for everyone who's coming (her family is all from Upstate NY, whereas my family is scattered around the Mid-Atlantic with some in the Pacific NW). My fiancée and her parents want to do it at an EXTREMELY expensive (i.e. $700/night) beach resort in Florida to allow our families and escape from the cold...understandable since they're from upstate NY!! If we get the attendance that we want (~120-150 people), the wedding will cost LITERALLY $70,000. Now there are 3 problems: 1) My fiancée's folks are well off, but they're not loaded. I think this is an unwise use of their money, as much as I appreciate their generosity. 2) I doubt very many of our intended guests would be able to afford to stay at such an expensive hotel, not to mention airfare costs. Even the nearby "cheap" hotels are $250 per night. 3) Why spend so much on a wedding at all? At the end of the day, we will be husband and wife no matter where we get married. There are so many better uses of this money (i.e. our honeymoon...or a downpayment on a house!). I'm not necessarily opposed to a Florida wedding, but why not at a cheaper resort? I brought it up with my fiancée, and her take is "if they want to spend, let them!" I didn't come from money, so I guess I just don't think that way... So how do I bring this up with my soon-to-be in-laws |

Question: Are proposals usually planned or surprise? Posted: 08 Apr 2017 07:54 AM PDT For example couple talks about where the guy proposes to the girl and both of them have rings. (Guy have proposal ring and girl has the guy engagement ring). Or does the guy surprise the girl with a proposal? |

Question: Deactivated facebook after engagement? Posted: 02 Apr 2017 11:51 AM PDT I have a friend who recently got engaged but something strange happened. His fiancee immediately deactivated her facebook profile once he changed his profile picture of them together and he changed his life event to engaged. Now we are not that close but i find that strange. Before engagement you were active but as you get engaged, you disappeared. I am thinking that she is private and don't want the unnecessary attention from his or her friends. Are there any other reasons? Thanks! I think some are reading too much into my question. No I am not a stalker. I am friends with the fiance while i'm not that close to the fiancee. They are both on my friends list on facebook. I have seen many engagements on my facebook where the couple would enjoy each other up till the big day of marriage. Some do it openly while others are more reserved. This is the first time i'm coming across such behavior as she got engaged hence the question. Name calling and disrespect with assumptions will be reported. Thank you.
