Like say she couldn't marry a prince for whatever reason, who would be the next best option? Dukes, lords, prominent military leaders? Not in a modern day sense, but like middle ages to the 19th century?

I just can't understand. My girlfriend before was all set on getting married, and I was certain she would say yes! When I ask her with the ring she saw she loved she told me she wants to wait. She said when I ask it hit hard her mom not here. (mom passed. Of csncer six months ago) I don't understand what that has to do with us getting engaged. I told her mom would want her to be happy, and she said she is still learning to live without her. And I dont understand what is like to lose someone, and watch them die. I get she wants her mom here, but what does any of that have to get with taking the next step?
