Posted: 08 May 2018 02:39 PM PDT So I wrote an essay for a scholarship and I actually won! Now my mom keeps asking me to read the essay and I really don't want her to. There's nothing bad in it or anything I just don't like other people reading my writing. My writing is very personal to me and it makes me uncomfortable when others (especially people I know) read it. She keeps asking me to see it and I keep saying no. However, today she became very upset that I won't show it to her and even threatened to punish me by not letting me go to Prom. I don't know what to do?? |

Question: Did I have a bad childhood? Did I grow up in a loving home? Posted: 08 May 2018 12:43 PM PDT Im 21 22 in July and I sometimes feel like my childhood was not the best. So I grew up with my parents and my older brother who's 27 now. My father was rarely home. He worked long hours to bring in money. I didn't see him much. Unless on the weekend but then he would just go in his room all day. He never really spent time with me as his son or my brother. He never played games unless on rare occasions. He was okay otherwise. But I feel that I was neglected and needed my fathers attention. My brother was actually not bad. He was quiet like my father though. We weren't close because we both just stayed in our room. i feel like it would have been great to have my only brother spend time with me and it sucked being alone in my room playing games all day. Now my mother. She was a very materialistic person and strives to be the best. I remember her bragging about the clothes she wears and jewelry she has on. She was vain and always thought appearance and Status was everything. I remember her bragging on my older brother since he always had great grades. It kinda hurt because I was the opposite, I never failed but my grades were mediocre. At the same time she was disappointed in him because he wasn't popular and she tried her best but it's not in my brothers personality to be social. So when I entered high school I tried my best to be popular and ppl thought I was funny but I mostly only looked like fool and didn't have real friends. I just wanted to make my mom proud. |
Question: Teenager upset due to dog? HELP!? Posted: 08 May 2018 12:04 PM PDT My 16-year-old daughter is great. We fight sometimes but, it's normal as she is so stressed out due ap classes, testing (nonstop) about things that she doesn't even understand. Every time she opens the gate to our fenced in yard one of my dogs tries to escape. She spends 20-30 minutes every day just trying to chase him down. And tomorrow she has a big test and she is studying nonstop, but she is over the dog. She texted me "If Berkley (the dog) gets out again, I'm not running after him and he's not getting anymore live from me. I'm over chasing him. He's taking up too much time that I don't have/cant spare." Shes basically teaching herself everything since her teachers don't really help, and she doesn't have time to go to dog training as she has a job. What should I do? she and the dog were best friends, but he keeps misbehaving. I walked out on her scolding the dog for running off and now the dog won't wag his tail or chew his bone. |
Question: What's your opinion about my sister.. bum, depressed or crazy? Posted: 08 May 2018 12:02 PM PDT My sister never drank but ever since she had a baby, she started drinking . She took good care of my nephew ,I can't lie about that. He's 5 now. But she is not doing well . She hasn't worked in 2 years ..She is graduating with her Masters soon. Her grades dropped for the first time in 3 years. She seems angry all the time but deep down she is a good person. She also got divorced recently .. how can I help her? She's a 34 yr old single mom, and I think she's feeling lost. I want to see her succeed but she's walking around bitter and hating everyone . She used to be sweet. |

Posted: 08 May 2018 11:32 AM PDT i feel like i am just in an endless cycle of **** that I cant do. like ive tried to have job, failed, I tried to do my paid online associate degree, failed. I tried making myself happy my accepting a boyfriend, failed. I tried having friends but since I cant get a job I cant have friends, so, failed. home is hell and torture for me. I feel like if I tried to move out to whever I wanted my nosy overbearing parents would try to prevent me,. my life is a living hell I don't have a ohone I don't have anything. I don't even remember how it felt to be happy I feel so miserable and I cant even tell my parents about it, I'm considering living on the streets the only thing stopping me is my parents who will bug me and annoy me til I die. I just have forgotten the feeling of being happy and I don't see myself ever having the means to be happy the only thing I want is to live alone and I need money to live alone and if I find another way to live like with a person my paretns will question it and I will then be prevented from doing it, I hate my life so much I hate everything. I hate living with my family who torture me my brother has psychosis and he tortures my dad everyday and my dad and mom torture each other and they torture me. only so many days can i go to the library to escape I need a real escape but I don't have one and I want one |
Question: My grandson is moving in with me and I'm not sure what to expect, ideas? Posted: 08 May 2018 10:59 AM PDT My daughter was killed in a car wreck, my son in law was killed by my older grandson. My other grandson died from alcoholism. My grandson whose moving in is 13. I'm not sure what to expect. I am in shock over these tragedies. My grandson is going through therapy, I've arranged for him to go to a private school,in Memphis. My grandson has an aptitude for languages, and is proficient in Russian and is planning on joining the wrestling team. |
Posted: 08 May 2018 10:50 AM PDT My parents fear my Mom's mother deeply. Not sure why as she is nice but they fear her and are horrified of displeasing her. So when it is a holiday we ALWAYS pick my Mom's family because of this terror. I am overcome with shame and embarrassment by this. We never do my Dad's family. I am an adult but the invite comes to my parents, not me. On top of this my Dad's late father drank too much and 21 years after his death my mother still will not forgive his family so my Dad avoids them to for his wife. So how do I get over the guilt and shame I feel even at age 31 of being a 2nd rate relative on my Dad's side? All the other parts of his family (my aunts, uncles, and cousins) get together 4 or 5 times a year and we join in usually only one of those times. We are 2nd rate and I am ashamed of myself for it. Question: Is this Mother's Day gift, good enough? Posted: 08 May 2018 09:45 AM PDT I reached out to my mother after being out of touch for 25 years. I found her contact information, by chance, on the internet. She never had a scoial media footprint but had recently got a landline which put her on the internet. I sent her $50 for Mother's Day gift, but she had previously complained that another of my relative had only given her $40 for Christmas and her birthday which are days apart. I just sent her $50 for Mother's Day. Is that good enough? I do not want to go into details about why we hadn't communicated for 25 years. However, she is 84, and very alert, and smart. I have told her to call me collect sometimes, and my last conversation was 5 weeks ago. She has not called or even attempte to. It doesn't seem like she cares, does it? |

Question: Do I bring my boyfriend on this family trip? Posted: 08 May 2018 05:24 AM PDT I've been dating my boyfriend for over a year now, we are 23 and 24. My parents are very old school and aren't into "sleepovers" and stuff like that. Me, my parents, my two married sisters and their husbands, my little sister and my niece and nephew are going to visit my other sister in California at the end of May. My mom told my boyfriend he was welcome to join about a month back. Fast forward a couple weeks and him and had been fighting a lot. My mom told me "he can come still, but he has to pay his own way, and you also need to be okay allowing him to come especially if your fighting. Plus, Dad will expect him on the couch for the vacation". Well my boyfriend and I have been really good lately and I'd really like him to join us, but I dont want to upset the family by bringing him if it'll be more of a stress than it should be. Does anyone have any experience with this? Some advice? |

Question: How do I take a paternity test? Posted: 07 May 2018 11:48 PM PDT I'm 18 my dads in his 60's. I want to know why I look like a white guy |
Question: I think my sister is a changeling? Posted: 07 May 2018 09:29 PM PDT My sister has started to act differently recently. She used to be a heavy drinker but has stopped all alcohol consumption recently, and she seems much more emotional. She also appears to have gained weight. This is not the sister I know. I believe the fay have taken my beloved sister and I am the only one who has noticed. Her husband doesn't even seem to care, he just changes the subject every time I mention my concerns to him. What should I do to bring my sister back? |
Question: I'm ready for complete independence? Posted: 07 May 2018 08:39 PM PDT I'm 16 right now and I feel older than that. Not to brag of course. This has caused some tensions between me and my mom though. there are some things that she doesn't let me do. she doesn't let me cook and she still watches over me when I do the laundry. She'll even check over my work when I do the dishes or vacuum. She rarely even let's me serve myself my own plate of food. This, coupled with some other tings too long for me to mention, has caused me to start to resent her. We started to go to family counseling and he mentioned that I'm still a boy, and that I need to respect her rules since I live under her roof. He's not wrong but it was the "boy" comment that annoyed me. I don't feel like a boy. I don't need to be taught right from wrong anymore. I'm ready to move into my own place, get a job and some life experience. My mom mentioned in counseling though, that since I'm her only child, she still wants to be a part of my life. I just don't think its the way she hopes. I was thinking about trying to get emancipated but there isn't enough of a case to make that happen. And I really don't want to do that to my mom either. I'm about to turn 17, but unless something changes, I don't know if I'll be able to deal with this. I'm gonna bring this up next counseling session, but I have a feeling both my mom and the counselor won't understand. |
Question: My parents are kicking me out of their house for good. What to do with my life? Posted: 07 May 2018 07:08 PM PDT Please listen to what I have to say. I'm 26 and still live with my parents. A few days ago my parents sat down and talked with me. They said it's time that I leave for good since my father is finally retiring and they want to spend time alone. I begged for them to let me stay but they said it's for the best. The problem is that I've made my life bad the past 8 years. After high school I was gonna go to community college but dropped it after a semester when I got into weed and lsd. I almost never contacted my parents during this time, lost most of my past friends, and lived in an apartment with 3 roommates. Fast forward 2 years and I'm arrested for distribution of marijuana and go to jail for 6 months. My parents took me in after that but still smoked and did bad things until 2 years ago. I've been at my job at Burger King since making $9.50 an hour (which is awful is the suburbs of NYC). I am wondering what the next step should be to take in my life. Find a roommate? Army? Community college (but with what money)? Any ideas or suggestions welcome. |

Question: I asked Mom why Dad isn't putting on my braces since Dad is a dentist? Posted: 07 May 2018 05:15 PM PDT My Dad has a nice office downtown, Mom told me its because Dad has a problem being around young girls. What does that mean? |
Question: How do pregnant teens keep their babies if they come from poor families? Posted: 07 May 2018 05:07 PM PDT Being a teen mom is easier if you come from a family with money because your parents can pay for babysitting and everything the baby needs. But what if the teen mom comes from a poor family and isn't old enough to work? Will 100-200 a month in food stamps be enough to support the child? I live with my single mom who makes about $13/hr so if I ever get pregnant she won't be paying for my baby. How do poor teen moms do it? |

Question: How to avoid scaring stepfamily? Posted: 07 May 2018 03:39 PM PDT So I'm kinda big, and and I have some ill-consider tattoos courtesy of Mom's moron ex-boyfriend. Mom just married this older white guy. I think he seems kind of scared of me? Definitely nervous. I think his 9 year old is picking up on this and getting nervous. How do I make them comfortable with me? Also, I have a dentist appointment Wednesday. Mom can't drive me. Should I ask my shiny new stepdad to drive me, ask to borrow the car, or just ride my bike? (I think it would be a 45 minute ride by bicycle). |

Posted: 07 May 2018 02:50 PM PDT I always go to my brother's events. Always. He's in 5th grade and I'm in 11th, but I always show up at his swim meets, soccer games, family fun days at school, anything I can come to. Tonight he wanted me to come to his portfolio conferences so that he could show me all of the artwork and things he's completed this year. I told him I couldn't though, because I have a huge anatomy test tomorrow (which I thought was Wednesday) and I haven't studied a bit. When he and my dad were leaving the house I felt so so guilty, and I still do. I know it's a minor issue, but I always feel bad because I know he worked hard and wanted to show me what he's accomplished. I told him to take pictures but I still feel bad for not going :( |
