My girlfriend has explicitly stated that diamonds are overrated, however, I don't know that a ring without a diamond will be as obvious of an ~engagement~ ring as anything else. With this in mind, here is my idea...diamond in the middle, my birthstone on one side, hers on the other, symbolic of the both of us (our birthstones) being joined to an unbreakable and recognizable commitment (the diamond)? So wait...it is ~NOT~ considered corny to get an engagement ring without a diamond? Also, our specific birthstones are peridot and amethyst.
