It's still hard to believe he lost his fight with depression, but it happened. He was my only true friend; we were closer than brothers. Before my only friend killed himself, I was more-than-happy with my life. He was the only friend I needed to stay happy and content. Now that he's gone, I feel incredibly lonely. By the way, I'm a sophomore guy in college (or university, whatever floats your boat). I've never been really good at making friends, and I'm not really sure why. I obviously have a bias, but I think I am genuinely nice, altruistic, and funny. In other words, I'm not a douchebag. Not to toot my own horn, but I do rather well in my classes, and I help a lot of fellow students (especially girls) study, but nobody seems to want to be my friend. I know something must be wrong with me (or else people would want to be my friends), but I can't figure out what that is. I mean, I'm respectful, relatively smart, nice, witty, decent-looking, have good hygiene, and always help people when I can. The problem is that I feel like people only use me for their own benefit. I typically wouldn't care (I just love to help people), but now that my friend is gone, I feel incredibly alone. What can I do? |

I'm not technically looking for "answers" more like some reassurance that things will be better. :) So my Freshman year was fine. I met new people but during the summer, we drifted apart because I had no phone to contact them. Now it's sophomore year and I realized how little people I knew and the ones I did know, they already had their groups of friends. Truthfully, I do have one friend. She's nice and outgoing but she has her group of friends already. We sit with one of her friends during lunch and them two are always laughing and I feel a bit left out but mostly envious that I can't have a relationship like that with anyone else. I feel like she knows how little friends I have and so she feels a bit pitiful. I would truly say she's my only friend. After typing that all I feel like I've finally been truthful to myself. Is it weird that I'm crying now? Sometimes I feel like its because my personality is just very bland and boring. Like what I say never interests people and my humor it just non existent. I tried 2 sports and the people were awesome but I feel like it was hard for me to open up to them. Clubs? I've done a lot and i feel like I can't connect with the people. I feel like I need to try harder though but now I just feel hopeless. People already have their cliques so it's hard to fit in with them. Sorry this was so long. Whenever I try to talk and meet up with a different group of people, they greet me and such but just never really talk to me. A bunch of groups like it when I'm more sexually active but that really isn't me. I like sports but I do not participate in any. I go around my neighborhood a lot and talk with everyone. I am not quite different from a bunch of people. I just have a hard time making friends and socializing. Trying to get good conversations. I don't find myself to be ignored by everyone. Just disliked and the one that no one starts comversations with. What is wrong with me? Is there something I am doing wrong? Why do I have a bad time connecting with people. Would it be how I look? She lives literally a block away from a pizza place and my friend said we are just going to walk there since it's very close. It's basically across the street. My parents said they don't want me to do that since we have to cross a busy street. They said they can come pick us up from her house and take us there. I just started hanging out with these friends this year and this is the first time I'm going to her house. (My parents know them and think they are nice/responsible so that isn't the issue.) I understand where my parents are coming from, but I dont want my friends to not want to hang out with me anymore because it's weird or a damper or burden on their plans or something. They have walked across that street before too. How do I go about this and tell my friend we have to do this? My parents are not budging. |

My friends from high school don t really want anything to do with me anymore. Thats fine, Im not mad at all. Im waiting for the guy i like (my neighbor) to come back from college far away during the holidays as well, and that gives me something to look forward to more than anything! To be honest I've kinda stalked him on Instagram and Facebook(I'm weird as ****, I know), but I really would like to be friends with this person. We've talked a little before, and just today he gave me a digital print thing that I paid for(it took him 8 months to start it but it's really good so I don't mind), but now that that's done there's no real reason for us to keep DMing each other. I would love getting to know him but I don't want to come off as a creep(even though I am one, lol) or be overly awkward(which I am). Suggestions? |

I used to live in that town. I told people from there that he was moving there soon, and I said that he was cool and had swag... And now today I texted him and said hey.. And he replied with "wtf I have swag?" And I said what? And then he said "you've been telling from here about me. Who is the person you were telling?" And I got scared and blocked the person and him... Right when I blocked him I got another message from him saying "they showed me the messages" and I'm freaking out. He expects me to make him feel better when he's sad and I can't always drop what I'm doing and tend to him. I have to make myself care. I have absolutely no problem ignoring someone's call and then calling them back whenever I want. I skipped a friend's birthday party because it was at the beach, and I don't like being seen in a suit. I'm lazy too. I've delayed graduation 2 years because I'm continually dropping classes, and I still haven't done it yet. I just can't motivate myself enough to do the work. I know I'd be a terrible mother and wife, and I can't think of any reason why someone should hire me, besides the fact that I'm pretty smart. If I applied myself, I could probably help a lot of people. My IQ is in the 120s/130s. (Not a genius, just a little smarter than average...) I don't even know what I'm asking. But yeah. I'm only 23. I want to know what you guys think, and be honest. Okay, I'm 16 and I think my "best friend" may be embarrassed by me. We've been friends for five years and see each other almost every day. She's a lot more "popular" than me (I don't care about popularity) and I admit she's way prettier than me too, everyone likes her better than me. I'm kind of an outcast because I used to be very shy and even though I'm not shy anymore, the label stuck. So, about two years ago during freshman year, one of our other friends, who's friends with both of us, told me my "best friend" said she's embarrassed by me and that I wear weird clothes, walk weird, act weird, and I'm super awkward. She went on to say people always make fun of her for hanging out with me. A few months later during an argument, my friend even admitted she DID say that (kind of) she said, "Well I am your friend! I stand up for you when everyone at school asks me why I'm friends with the weird girl!" She follows all of her friends and even people from school on Twitter. She knows my Twitter and stalks it sometimes but she won't follow me. She had me blocked for a year and we were NOT in an argument. Her favorite 1D member is Niall and Niall follows me and I have a DM with him. I asked her if I should add her and I said the only way for me to add her is if she follows me. She made a weird face and changed the subject. However, sometimes she's so nice to me and we talk about everything. She got me a great present for my birthday months ago and says I'm her best friend she's known for the longest time. Do you get my analogy? She s the type of person who copies off of people without knowing it. It s either without knowing it or she secretly knows but denies it when i confront her. She copies everything from me. My music genre, my usernames, my snapchat ideas, instagram ideas, school essay topics, things i buy, and more. It s just really annoying to me because i m a really competitive and jealous/bossy type of person. Yeah... I ve told her so many times that she copies me but she always says "nooo......" I made a few friends but I'm finding it hard to since I'm a bit shy and anxious. However, there's one girl who, after talking to a few times, I felt like we sort of clicked & now she's one of my closest friends. I love our friendship bc it's pretty much based on banter and throwing sarcastic comments at each other. We've never been to each other's houses, but we've hung out outside of school a few times. Anyways, recently I felt like I might have feelings for her. I get excited when I see her, and I always feel like I need to impress her. Like, when she's around, I try my best to be social and talk to people just to show her I have friends & I'm popular. I usually hang out with her and this other girl, who's a bit shy and we have our own kinda little squad. When I see them hanging out and having conversations without me, I get pretty jealous. And this applies to everyone she talks to really. I get really happy when she likes/ comments on my pics on FB. I feel like texting her all the time. I used to feel like I want to be her #1 friend (which I know wont happen for a few reasons) but recently, I started wondering, what if these are bc I'm in love with her? Posted: 12 Nov 2015 02:15 PM PST So today I was in the gym playing basketball like normal and this kid I used to be bestfriends with but stoped being friends with last year kicked me. He kicked me because this other kid made a 3 point shot and I said wow, he thinks he's good and of course I was joking I know he's good. This kid said with a smart *** attitude "BECAUSE HR IS GOOD DUMB ***!' I looked at him and said what? Who are you talking too like that? I said shut up with your ugly *** and he looked at me and kicked me. I should of hit him right there but of course I say do it again and watch what happens. He said your not going to do anything so I'm not going to kick you. I then text him 10 minutes later after going to class and say why did you kick like a ***** use your hands like a man and he said **** off ******. This kid is about my size and I want to fight him. He dosent want to fight on school grounds but either way we will be suspended. My parents don't know and a lot of people saw what happened and think I'm going to lose. I want to show people who I really am and what I'm about and not be the shy kid who lots of people take advantage of. We do not go to the same school anymore but we sill see each other in person almost once a month even more (a lot in summer) anyways this could just be because of social media like instagram,snap chat etc. But I have noticed and this is crazy but my friend keeps hanging out with people that don't to crap for her. There has been so many times where I have texted her during the week, when her grandma passed asking her how she was doing a couple days after, calling her on face time and talking for two hours plus. Trying to offer up plans in the summer turning them down because she needs to go see her camp friends so bad. I have never once done anything mean to my friend and even if I did it was in early elementary years over stupid stuff (1st,2nd,3rd) so my question is what the heck is she doing here? am I doing something wrong? It is just so annoying for me how people don't help her or do crap for her in return always get picked to go hang out, it's so annoying and I just need some good advice on this thank you very much. Posted: 12 Nov 2015 02:01 PM PST so i work backstage for my school plays and stuff, and i started talking to this guy (call him dex) and ive grown quite fond of him over the past few days, idk what exactly it is about him but i got a small crush on him. well, one of my closest friends who does backstage with me (call her sally) texted me yesterday and told me that she told dex that she had a crush on him. she said he didnt really have a response to it, but they continued to talk to each other. she didnt know him much longer than i have, so its wasnt a "who liked him first" situation. she already has a major huge crush on this other guy, and used to never stop talking about him, so she says this isnt a big big crush (on dex), more like an attraction, but enough to call it a "crush". i didnt tell her i felt the same as she did, but i hinted it by saying that hes "cute and sweet and i see why (you) like him". i dont think she picked that up, lol. what do i do from here? obviously im not letting him get in the way of the friendship, but i want to know if i should give up on whatever i feel towards him? how do i control my feelings about him? |

I still didn't have any friends, but i wasn't about to lose hope. Yet in the weeks following people have had a very hard time sitting near me for more than a few minutes. They make up just about every excuse possible, even risky ones. Just to get away from me. I am very quiet and nervous when it comes to kids my age. But i don't know why this happens. I haven't made a single friend, and even people in the hallway can't even look me in the eyes. I am not very attractive to some people. But i used to have friends before. Even the teachers don't even notice i'm there. When its time to pick partners or a team i'm supposed to be in the teachers always forget to include me, and don't peek an eye in my direction. Posted: 12 Nov 2015 01:17 PM PST Not exactly a question ^ Anyways, my mother is wanting me to be friends with my ex-BFF because she says we have to be at least "civil". We are also going on a trip with her family this weekend. I know it's the right thing to do, but even if we are civil, we would still fight. When I WAS best friends with her, we were in a very toxic relationship. We would always end up fighting about little things and we would also stop talking for months at a time. For. No. Reason. We have started to hate each other, but now our mothers have finally noticed and they are telling us to be friends again. I really don't want to, so what do I do? I still want to make my mom happy! Just some more info: my mother IS best friends w/ my ex-BFF's mother. I'm thinking she doesn't want it to be awkward between her and my mom every time they visit each other's houses. My mother also said she wants me to civil, because it will also make our friends (Her and I's) feel awkward and picking who to talk to. |

| Posted: 12 Nov 2015 01:02 PM PST This woman and her husband used to be very good friends of ours - we have kids at the same school and used to hang out quite a bit. My wife goes to Vegas every year for a trade show and usually likes to bring along a friend the weekend before the show to share the room, go to Canyon Ranch with her, and just hang out - nothing crazy. She brought along this woman last year, and the woman got drunk and made a pass at my wife, which my wife pointedly rebuked (not interested in women or cheating AT ALL). But the woman then started flirting with one of my wife's clients at dinner and ended up spending the night with him (they hooked up again after everyone had parted company, but were observed by one of my wife's coworkers, and it was later confirmed by her client). My wife confronted her about it afterwards, and the woman basically denied everything and pretends to this day that she did nothing wrong - that whoever told her otherwise must be lying. We effectively froze her out at that point over her "what happens in Vegas" behavior. I really like the husband, and our kids get along really well - it's been very difficult staying silent about the whole ordeal and trying to keep things as normal as possible with the husband and kids while avoiding any contact with the wife. I feel a bit guilty about not telling the husband (though who knows if they have some kind of arrangement or something?), but I don't know if it's really my place to do so. It's REALLY awkward. Any advice? When I see the husband, he sometimes brings it up - like "the girls used to be so close, but now they don't even talk anymore". And he notes that it happened right after the Vegas trip. I just shrug and try to change the subject, but always very awkward. Also, she keeps on TRYING to insinuate herself back in. My son wanted to go trick-or-treating with their son, so the husband and I took them and a few other kids around. Afterward, we ended at my house and hung out, and the wife showed up, came in, made herself at home, hung out for 3 hours. Last one to leave. My wife was mortified. |

I had my best friend of all time there, but I know it won't work out; she seems to like the friends she's known for 1-2 years over me and quite frankly, I find myself annoyed by almost everything she does when we are at school. I'm a guy but I act very feminine and I want girl best friends. But every friendship seems... cemented? They've known each other since like grade one and aren't really willing to make new close friendships, only shallow ones it seems. I don't make friends as fast as some new kids because I don't play any in-school sports and at dance I don't really talk to anyone so I don't have friends from there... I just want a close friendship with someone I love and trust, but I don't know how and I'm a bit shy and self-conscious. Can you guys help me break out of my shell and make new, close friends? By "close friend", I mean like if you were to hug them they wouldn't shake you off, they would hug you back without any awkwardness. |

I basically don't know when or how to begin a conversation with him because I feel as though I have left it too late in knowing him to have a first conversation (if that makes sense)... I want to talk to him because we have so many lessons together and he seems like a nice guy. I feel if I leave it more than a term it will be even more awfully awkward. Today she's simply set me off the brink calling me a b word in front of all of my friends in the middle of the lunch room because I reached over her to put down a sweater on a chair beside her, which she promptly threw off the chair and kicked in the floor. The problem is she's my only friend in a few classes and basically we share all the same friends. I need to cut her off, but I don't know how to avoid her. |

However that didn't freaking happen and she went with this other group of friends. The boyfriend is controlling (allowed social media of his choosing & has to revolve around him, if she posts pictures of herself on Instagram, he and his father say she's seeking attention, has to text her every second, etc.) and emotionally abusive (he's called her mental, a *****, a slut, crazy, ugly, stupid, threatened to leak her nudes if she didn't answer him, if he didn't like her friends she had to ignore them, called her retarded, called her family terrible names and said they don't care about her, etc.) and his dad's a full on pedophile (his son uses his phone because his mom checks his personal and he has all her nudes on his dad's phone and he's stalked her and me and bought her phones and iPods for her to text his son on when she got hers taken away, locked them in the car together, drove him to sneak in her room to have sex with her, and has probably seen all her pics and he's done and said more; pedophile behavior) and they're both so terrible to her they yell at her, they call her names, they make her cry, and I rightfully hate them both, only being friendly cuz I know that if I'm not her "boyfriend" will turn her against me. Oh and he's obviously cheating and everyone knows it but she wants to "see it with her own eyes." And she's picked him over everyone before and I thought we were past that but she picked him over me again and I'm done but what should I do? |
| Question: How can I make amends? Posted: 12 Nov 2015 10:55 AM PST I'm pretty sure I have social anxiety and sometimes really outgoing, talkative, and extroverted people scare me. So there's this dude at work who is like that and I DID NOT make talking to me easy for them. Also, at the time I didn't realize I had social anxiety and didn't completely realize what I was doing. But I can't blame all of my actions on social anxiety. He used to sometime complement my looks, but I was being a TOTAL prude and thought those comments were inappropriate so I started actively ignoring him. (I was being SUCH a prude.) He's probably pretty nice because he still kept on trying to talk to me after I repeatedly shut him out. After realizing I had social anxiety and realizing I was being a jerk I tried to let them in but I guess I didn't try hard enough. He'd try talking to me and I'd respond with one word, but only because I couldn't think of ANYTHING to say. I'm essentially a mute. :( My logic was "one word is better than zero words. If I at least say SOMETHING it'll show that I actually am listening and care.", but apparently to normal people one word is as rude as no words. :/ So now he thinks I'm a jerk. I now realize my rude behavior and want to make amends but I'm not sure how. I want to apologize but how do I apologize without sounding like a Full House episode? There was a HUGE situation that didn't even involve Karen, but her mom. I was going to go to state football with a group of friends that didn't involve her, and Karen's mother found out somehow. She called my mom to say I had to go with her and Karen, or it would be a slap in the face from my family to Karen's. My mom ended up deciding that I couldn't go, in order to avoid the drama. I don't want another girl's mom thinking they have control over who I hang out with, so I think with this whole situation and the fact that we don't really like the same things anymore, that I should just end the friendship. I feel that Karen has been holding me back from being myself. Karen's family are openly fairly heavy drinkers, and my parents don't like that they allow their underage children to go to bars and drink with friends. I, along with a number of my other friends, have been bullied by Karen's mother before, whether Karen knows it or not. (We are 15-16 year old girls, and Karen's mother is 50) I've told my parents about all of this, and they agree that it would be best to end the friendship, but because our families have done so much together in the past, it will be a hard, painful thing to do. If someone could give me pointers on how to politely tell Karen that we can't be friends anymore it would be greatly appreciated. |

My boss is also my mom's childhood friend, and we are friendly with his wife as well so they are more like family friends. They are wealthy so I'm at a loss of what to get them. I was thinking of a food basket but she can only have gluten free and flowers are done to death. They are very good to me so I'd like it to be special but I can't have it be overly expensive, preferably under or close to $50? Any suggestions would be great!! | Question: I betrayed a friend ten years ago. Will the shame ever go away? Posted: 12 Nov 2015 10:05 AM PST When I was 17 I betrayed my best friend at the time. She found out about me and her boyfriend...She was angry, told everyone she new, and took pleasure in embarassing me at school. Months later we tried to be friends again. Then out of nowhere she brought up the past in the middle of the school hallway. Once again I was humiliated and spent the rest of senior year keeping to myself. Over the last ten years she has made a couple attempts to get in touch with me, but I keep avoiding her. Every now and then I see her at the grocery store and wish I had just moved away (too late, I have a family now) She never says anything to me. I'm sure she is aware that I'm avoiding her. I act strange, try to hide or just leave. Last night she walked into my work place with her husband and kids. I hid in the back room. I was relieved when they left so I came out. Of course with my luck they came back. She waited at the exit while her husband asked if I had seen their child's shoe anywhere. Am I being ridiculous? How long do I have to live with this shame? I used to make poor choices because I was lonely and impulsive. I'm not like that any more. I'm now a responsible, trustworthy woman. Most of the time I feel good about myself. But my past is embarassing...What's an appropriate way for me to act when I see her in public? She hasn't retaliated since high school, but what if she decided to tell my current friends/coworkers about what I did in high school? I haven't told anyone. |

My story: I used to be close to my friend Dan, but I started to grow and change. At the time (we) didn't know that's what caused Dan to start lashing out at me--making fun of me, putting me down. In hindsight it's clear: Dan didn't like the NEW me, but he thought he still liked me--but it was just the OLD me he was remembering. So now: I want nothing to do with Dan. I think we obviously CLASH. But it's (funny) cuz everyone else thinks he's "so nice" ,etc... LOL. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Thanks. |

I am planning to go back to college this semester and once I finish school I will be moving out on my own. I met this guy online a year ago and I met him in person a few months ago. He is 41 and we live in different states I want to go see him again but I don't want my parents to find out about it. They would only give me a hard time about it. I am planning to go see him after I go see my bestfriend. I live in Ohio and she lives in Mississippi the guy lives in California. After I spending a few days with her I plan to fly out and see him. I just don't want my parents to find out about this. Is there anything I can do to keep them from finding out? They like to call me while I'm away. They will also be dropping me off and picking me up from the airport. Please help! Last time they found out because I told my aunt |
