If my parents are both still alive and I keep in touch with them, will it be a disgrace to not include them in my wedding? They've never abused me, but have always made me feel worthless, telling me the first man I date must be my husband, and no pre-marital sex, no body piercings, no alcohol of any sort, and that my double major in engineering and hopes of a phd in physics are stupid and worthless. I really don't want them to ruin my special day, but is this something I should suck up? I'll have to walk down the isle by myself, suffer from judgement from friends, and ultimately break a lot of social standards when it comes to weddings. Is it socially acceptable to not have my parents at my wedding?

I love my engagement ring on it's own and don't really care to pair it with a wedding band. Is a wedding band needed or can I just wear my engagement ring?
