Some parents don't talk about what's right and wrong online or the family is uneducated about it. If the child is harassing someone in any way and especially if the victim makes unfortunate decisions (e.g self-harm), should their parents be responsible? Most children who made foolish choices are old enough to have consequences. However, their legal guardian is responsible for someone under 18. It's likely that they didn't monitor their child's activities in the first place, resulting in the child having secretive inappropriate behaviors.

I'm 15 years old and a girl. I've been raised by a good family from what I thought. We're higher middle class, I have an older sister, we live in a nice two story house and my parents have been married and we immigrated from Iran when I was 6. I've learned that my dad is, honestly, an asshole. He screams at me and my sister for everything. I realized that he likes me less as I grow up. He only cares about himself. I'm 13, so that means we've been living here for 7 years. My dad convinced my mom to not get a job but now she has one at home goods, but the problem is she's a doctor and since she was convinced to not work and guilt tripped her degrees are rendered useless. She had an interview once and my dad hid her books; my sister and I don't let my mom know because it would break her heart. My dad freaks out easily, slaps my thighs a lot, puts his hand on my butt when I'm walking away which is just creepy. My mom deserves better than this, I wish they would get divorced. Btw - my dad is trying to get him and my mom (only them) to go back to Iran. He says if he doesn't she's on her own with raising me. My sister's 24 and has her own house so we think we'll end up moving in with her. Help.

I'm 18, and I've been dying to go to Brisbane for a while. Ever since I was a little girl, Australia always peaked my interest and now I have a reason to go. To see someone that I've known for a few years and have fallen hard for. But my parents won't agree to it. They said hat they don't have the time or the money, even after I volunteered to pay for my plane ticket and hotel room. We would go during summer vacation for my mom because she's a teacher. And since it would be summer here, it wouldn't be so hot over there which was another reason they said no. They also don't want me going because they don't know this guy and they don't want to spend their whole time over in Australia with some stranger. But I know him pretty well and I'm dying to see him. I've had continuous dreams about meeting him and I finally put my foot down and decided that I want to go to Australia. I don't want to go by myself since I'm 18 and that is an option and I literally have no friends to go with because they're all busy all the time with their jobs, educations, and families. So my only option is to go with at least one of my parents. I would choose to go with only my mom but I also know my dad would want to tag along too because we never go on a major trip without him. But back to the point, I want to go and pay for all my expenses. This is something I've dreamed about for years. How can I convince my parents to come with me?

I live wirh them because I don't have a degree I'm going to school late I got pregnant chose abortion because my mom didn't want to raise another kids baby. She said I would have a bad future with the babies dad because he barely works and drinks and parties and we'd have to live with his mom while I have the child because my mom would say to move out. My bf was egging me on for abortion I think he did it to get back at my mom for not wanting him and he expected my mom to help and be happy I'm pregnant. Ok, I have met a guy in London in a restaurant during my trip back in August. I was seated next to him but happened we got into a conversation after asking him if he has been to this restaurant before in central london and I wasn't too sure what to order since I haven't had Korean food before, anyways then we started talking and so on for like more than an hour. Then it happened to be we were the same ethnicity which was funny because my ethnicity is not very popular. He asked me if I was visiting and then asked where my parents were from or where I'm from and my ethnicity. We actually took pictures I have like 3 or 4 pictures of me and him and thankfully they are clear images. He took images of me and him from his own phone as well. Thankfully I have pictures of us too . Lots of specific clothes are sexualized and some people would expect to see them on 20-somethings, not on kids (e.g corsets, low cut tops, cropped tops). However, plenty of minors want to appear older. If a group of 12 year old girls walk into the mall picking out these clothing pieces, should they refuse to sell them? Especially if they're ALONE without an adult, which sometimes is because their parents don't allow those clothes but they are sneaking behind their backs.

I don't want to think of my dad as a sexual person, though every person is. It's just he's my dad and I'm a girl so I like to imagine he's not like that. My parents have been divorced since I was 10 and I'm 19 now. I still live with them and keep changing houses. I feel like I want to keep living at home for a few more years, but I don't want to live with my mom anymore, not just because changing houses is tough, but also because of this: Despite apologizing multiple times, my mom isn't very nice with me sometimes. I've noticed a pattern. When I'm not with her she sometimes texts me telling me that I'm a great person and whatnot. But when I'm with her, she gets upset with me for even the smallest details. Then she starts calling me thing that everyone I know knows I'm not. She calls me things like rude, cold, and selfish. I hate it when she does that. That's just how she perceives me. She probably does because I have mild Aspergers and ADD. I've tried to explain this to her but she doesn't care. Everyone I know disagrees with this. A lot of people talk about how I'm a good person, which I think I am too. She probably thinks this way because we don't really bond that much since I'm a bit scared of her, and I honestly don't know what to talk about with her. It was never even like this until I turned 15. I know it's my decision who I live with now, but she's probably going to think I'm a jerk or something and go around spreading false rumors to her friends and her side of the family. I love my mother and my siblings with all my heart, but recently I cut them all off for some reasons. When I was 18 years old, freshly out of High school, I got a job to support my mother and my 5 siblings. I am the first daughter, but I have an elder brother who is 2 years older than me and I have 4 other younger siblings. Life was tough then for us, no food to eat, no necessities. My father left my Mom when I was 9-year-old and my youngest brother was a year old. I promised myself that I will support my mother no matter what it takes for she had no helper. My other was very happy when I got a job, I also started a small business for myself, selling oranges and whatever fruit of the season I can lay my hands on. My mother was ecstatic. I helped her with money for food and to pay for my younger ones' school fees. I go to work in the morning and sell oranges at night. One day, I got home from work, and I saw my elder brother standing outside our apartment with a look of disgust and anger on his face. I was curious as to why he was looking at me the way he did, then he said to me "So you are a witch? I said what? He said "so you are the witch who has been holding my blessings" I was confused, and tired after a long day at work. I then told him if it was a joke he should stop it, because I was finding it funny. Hi everyone I needed some advice on a situation. My boyfriend wants meet up with his family and my family all together for his birthday coming up. After planning for months with my family (Parents, Brothers & Sisters) to celebrate Christmas with them in Oregon and just recently finding out from work that I ve been approved the days off to go, my wife is telling me we won t have the money to go. I figure I ll just go myself, seeing how I don t get to see my family, with me living so far away from them now in California, and that we all planned to get together already, and lastly, simply because I don t want to stay here in Bakersfield for Christmas. Though the fact is, we are behind on bills currently and she told me she had to ask for help from her church to pay the payments. So now I feel that she doesn t want to go, because then she ll feel embarrassed if her church finds out that we went on a vacation, since she just borrowed money. My stance is, If her church are understanding people, like I m sure they are, they won t care that we went to visit family in another state for Christmas. So through all of this I tell her that I will have enough money to go, since I will get paid thrice in December, but her answer is that, if I have enough money to go on a vacation, then I should have enough money for bills. I feel like we should be caught up by that point anyway, and visiting family on Christmas is more important anyway, isn t it?. Any advice? What is your take or opinion on this?

I decided to rent an apartment off campus. I was the first one to sign on for the apartment and then two more signed on. (We all have seperate leases) anyway they're nice and all but one thing that annoys the crap out of me is the smoke all the time! Everyday at every hour! And everything there is to smoke under the sun, cigarettes, weed, hash (and I live in Illinois so yes it is illegal) it's ridiculous, believe me I know plenty of people that smoke but not at the rate they do, besides smoking they are slobs! They leave their garbage out on the kitchen counter and table, never clean their dishes, don't flush the toilet, and leave crumbs everywhere, especially little pieces of weed and also leave their bag of weed and bong in the living room. It annoys me, I can't stand the smell and I'm getting so much second hand smoke. Why can't they just do it in their room? Also my parents came down to visit this weekend. I had to clean up their crap and it took me 2 hours to clean and my parents are very conservative when it comes to smoking weed so I had to hide their stupid bong. My mom also discovered how my roommate never flushes the toilet. She's like "seriously how lazy can they possibly be." So today after my parents left, I came home and discovered my roommate had cigar **** and ashes all over the counter I spent two hours cleaning! So yeah I don't know what to do because I don't want to start a war, but it's ridiculous! What can I do! Thanks!

My parents are emotionally and financially abusive. My father is the breadwinner. He does not make much money, but spends a lot. He cheated on my mother, but sh stayed because she cant support herself. She took out her anger on me. She constantly compared me to others, belittled, insulted me, told me multiple times she shouldn't have had me, etc... I paid for college on my own, and now make decent money as a nurse. She now feels entitled to my money and gets mad when I don't give her more. My dad also has problems too. He drinks, and has gotten physical with my mother before. Ive offered my mom an out, but she refuses. He spends money on stuff he knows he can't afford. Now, my brother and I are paying for his poor choices. He is being sued, and has to go bankrupt. The lawyers advise against selling the house, so now my brother and I are stuck paying for it. I have to give them $1000/month for 3 years, when my take-home pay is only about $3000/month, and I have my own bills to pay since I moved out. After 3 years, we'll sell the house. They are My parents, and I don't want them to end up homeless, but I will not put up with their abuse any longer. My dad has another business now, so when the time comes, they'll downsize. I know my parents will fight to keep the money they get from the house, which is when I plan to use my ultimatum... money or me. If they want my money, they lose me. If they pick me, they lose my money. Either way, I win. Is that too harsh?

I saw a little boy with ear piercings and a hoodie that promoted "thug life" at a mall. Tons of children aren't dressed like children anymore! They put on clothes that you'd expect to see on 20 year olds. It's getting increasingly common to see pre-teens wearing clothes that really aren't appropriate but some parents let them anyways. Not many people talk about this as it's "typical" for this generation. I find it somewhat ridiculous that they try so hard to appear older.

A female friend I would die for left an abusive relationship, but like so many before her she was manipulated back into it. She has a young daughter. I am wondering where I can find statistics that state: A- How much more likely a woman beater is to also abuse children than a non-abuser B- How likely they are to become a child abuser, period B is the important one. Clearly anyone who beats a defenseless woman is more likely to hurt a child vs someone with no history of abuse, but I'm wondering how many are virtually GUARANTEED to do it. Any additional statistics are welcome.

Like for example I wanted to take a gap year after high school and travel. I want to wear dresses and skirts, I like wearing curls ( they prefer straight hair) I didn't go to the school my mom wanted me to go too, and she doesn't like the classes I wanted to take. so had a beautiful preemie baby girl c section who was discharged last week. when my baby was in NICU she called the hospital and tried getting info on our daughter thankfuly nurse didnt give out any info and called me to let me know. well just today my boyfriend mother came over to drop off something she decided to hang out for a bit which is fine. i just got done feeding my daughter and it put her to sleep. His mom held her and said if she can give my baby a bath. i said she is sleeping i planned on doing it when she wakes up. 20 minutes passed by and she told me where i keep my baking soda i showed her and she started cleaning our bathroom. she told me it was my daughter bath time and she gonna give her a bath in bath tub. i said she only takes bath in sink especialy since she isnt a month old yet. she got mad and yelled at us on how we shouldve told her that first before she cleaned our bath tub. she didnt tell anybody what she was doing before she did it thou. she said she felt like we think she doesnt know what shes doing when she does. i told her i just feel comfortable with her taking a bath in my sink. she got her things and stormed out. was i wrong? what should i do i hate when things like this happen ?

I was bored at school so I pulled up this girls blouse and pulled down her bra showing her boobs in front of a lot of students she got angry and slapped me and goes to tell the headmaster I run off. in class I get call up to the headmasters office and get a week suspension. After school I get back at that girl for getting me suspended by cutting of all her hair to a boys length and quickly run off. I used to be really close to my sister who is about ten years older than me (in her twenties), but recently, she has been ignoring me all the time. When she visits my family and I, she only talks to my mom and dad, never me, she brings her boyfriend (against whom I hold no grudges) and devotes the time she doesn't spend with her parents to him, and whenever I go out somewhere with her, it's her BOYFRIEND who asks if I should come. is there any any I can be close to her again?

Question: My parents hurt me terribly as a kid by keeping me from my Mom's family. How do I make up to my Mom;s family?

Grandpa on Mom's side was an alcoholic and I was banned from seeing her family. You might remember me from other questions I have asked. I have no friends so family is more important to me then it is to most people. My Dad has a very close but small family and we have no cousins on his side (he was an only child). I failed my Mom's family by not seeing my grandfather cause my Mom told us we couldn't. She said he didn't love us or he would have stopped drinking and I believed her. As a result I would be angry at him and speak poorly of him as a little kid. As a teenager I met him and got to know him and he was fine. I even got close to him. After he died I thought my guilt at gossiping about him as a kid would subside but it has not. I am constantly trying to make up to my aunts, uncles, and mainly cousins. I fear my cousins dont know I was close to my grandfather all through his later years. My Mom still doesn't like her siblings. As a result we don't do holidays with her family. I try to fanagle an invite but don't want to directly say "invite me please" as it made an aunt uncomfortable when I did that. So coming up on Thanksgiving I feel so much loss and shame about the years I missed and not attending Thanksgiving cause my parents and siblings don't thus I am not asked. This shame will continue until the New Year though at least at Christmas I can take a gift over to them. How do I make up to my Mom's family and how do I rid myself of the guilt and shame about this?

I have a great friend that i talk to almost everyday. Today i called her as i needed her advice, something was bothering me extremely bad, a secret that i was embarrassed about that I've never told anyone about. In order for her to help me i had to let it out to her. I cried and let out my secret to her on the phone. She helped me through it, talked to me and showed all her love to me. It was a huge secret to me, i never even told my mom or sisters or anyone but her. I feel entirely embarrassed and i told her, she said "dont be, its okay. If i made you feel like that i am sorry" it was a sentimental call and she explained how much she still love and cares for me... i just feel embarrassed still that i told her a big part of me. Shes my best friend, is it bad that i feel embarrassed? I truested her a lot to hell her but i feel so embarrassed... help

I am 33 and live on my own but he likes to control like I am 10. I am scared of him. Plus he just lent me money. He gives but uses it as "you owe me". He is an alcoholic and belligerent and none of his extended family will come because of him. MY Mom has her family over and they all remind me of how I was molested by her brother as a kid and they didn't believe me at first. I forgive them as it was painful realization and they lost him to jail cause of it, but I also feel ashamed like I hurt them. I'll be seeing them come Christmas Eve. So how do I get out of Thanksgiving at age 33 without facing my Dad's wrath (he scares me).

Question: My Mom says my Dad doesn't want a relationship with me. He sees me once a month. How do I know if he wants one or if she is being truthful?

So my boyfriend and I have been dating for 2 years now and we want to move in together. We have a great relationship that I feel is mature and healthy. We both want to stay with each other and eventually get married. We've been through a lot together and It's just brought us closer in the end and we love each other a lot. Anyways, we want to move in together. His parents are supportive about it and are willing to help out and are excited for us to be taking this big step together. However, my parents are not supportive of it. They are religious and believe that living with someone before you're married is a sin. I've only told my mom so far what i've decided and she was very disappointed and it broke my heart. My mom and I are close and I hate to disappoint her. But on the other hand she understands that I am an adult and I can make my own decisions about my life. I haven't told my dad yet because I know when I do he will be very very angry and probably shun me. I'm okay with that though because he's emotionally abused me my whole life and any kind of break from him would be awesome. The rest of my family is religious so they would all be disappointed too (grandma, grandpa, aunt and uncle). I hate disappointing people but it is my life. I've lived my whole life trying to please everyone else and now I want to do something for myself and I feel guilty that I'm disappointing people in the process. How can I deal with this guilt? What should I do?

i m 16 and i started driving a few weeks ago. whenever my mother is in the passenger seat, she always yells at me and over dramatizes everything; and no, i m not underplaying the mistakes i make, cuz even my dad says that she overdramatizes it. today, she kept yelling at me while i was driving and it was stressing me out so i said "shut the **** up" and yes i know that i shouldn t say this, but her response was to smack me on the face while i was driving, momentarily turning my head and making my eyes closed. we were on a road where the speed limit was 40mph, so it could have been dangerous, but luckily, nothing happened. i know that what i said was disrespectful but in the heat of the moment, i was extremely stressed out behind the wheel, and i think that no matter what i say to her, she does not have the right to hit me, whether i m driving or not, but especially when i m driving. in the past she s called me things such as **** and has said other verbally abusive stuff, and as a child she would spank me, but other than that this is the first time she has physically hit me.

Question: Do you have a good relationship with you're parents & siblings? Or are you guys estranged?
