Last night I cried in front of my daughter. She's 5 and I'm a single dad. Her mom left when she was 6 months old. Anyway, last night, she asked at random, " Why did mommy leave?" This is one of the first times she's ever asked about her mom's absence and I guess just having flashbacks about the fighting and realizing she'll never be in her daughter's life just pushed me to tears. Seeing me sad made her sad and I did manage to tell my daughter to just remember that her mom not being here is not her fault. We hugged it out but I still feel like maybe I scarred her. Did I ?

My mom and I are always fighting about the presidential debate. She's voting for Trump and anytime I say anything negative she shoots me down. Some of her points are just really, really..... idiotic ("We should build a wall, I hate Mexicans). Also, she's always trying to stuff her damn beliefs down my throat and it's usually violently. What should I do/say when this happens? It's not that I'm ignorantly against Trump (I realize some of his ideas are good ones), I just don't like her backing up her claims with exaggerated/fallacious facts, racial slurs, and violence.

Hey, I don't have anybody to talk about this,I think there's something wrong with me or with my dad.My parents are divorced and I moved with my father in another country like 2 months ago ( he moved in 7 years ago) so we live in the same house now and last week he started to act strange. He is an alcoholic but sometimes he seems more than drunk. For example,yesterday he finished work at 7 pm and he came home at 10 pm acting strange,he started to yell at me because I left the central heating on because it was very cold and I am sick.In the morning he woke up at 6 and he said he's going outside with his friend and he came back at 9 pm, he could not even open the door and he came inside,he eated a whole orange,even the shell then he laid on the bed with his eyes almost open and staring at the ceiling and he started to snore and this scares me. I also feel so bad, he keeps telling me that it is my fault that he drinks,that I'm good at nothing and he keeps judging me. Once I read his conversation with his ex and he said he can't go on anymore cause he can't concentrate about nothing - like work and me. Now I don't know what to do, he is creepy and he scares me,I actually feel unsafe living with him in the same house, but I hope that thing will change cause I don't have other options,I don't know anybody here,I don't even know the language too good,and I have 2 more years until I finish highschool even though I'm 17. I was told by my father I had no say because I was just a "child". Every week I alternate houses, one week I live with my dad the next week I live with my mom. My husband and I moved to a new home about 6 months ago. We keep our window open in our bedroom. Ever since we moved here we are always hearing the neighbors screaming and fighting and people coming over at all hours of the night screaming at them from outside. When their teenage daughter was staying with them this summer we would always be awakened with screaming. We even heard her screaming to her mom "tell him to stop hitting me." Yesterday I was in my living room with the door open and I heard the 12 year old screaming. It sounded like she was being murdered. She kept screaming "Pappa, stop Pappa." This went on for about 10 minutes. Just now I was sitting in my bed and I heard her scream again. I heard stomping in their house and it sounded like things were being thrown. She was screaming for him to stop. Her mother started screaming at her. It is now silent over there. When I do see the 12 year old her father is extremely protective of her. The bus drops her off at her driveway, but he makes the bus driver honk his horn to alert the dad so he can walk her inside. She sometimes walks their dogs with her mom and she is always in a tee shirt and panties. I usually don't pry into people's business, but my gut is telling me that something is not right. So my brother is 19, and I'm 13. he smokes, and he dropped out of school. He still lives with me and my dad, because my dad doesn't want to put him on the street. He is super super depressed and he won't get help. He locks himself in his room during the day. My friend lives with her mom and her step dad because her real dad is a bad person, always in jail, and his "friends" threatened to kill her if they ever saw her. So she HAS TO live with her mom and step dad. Both are "very" abusive in my opinion. The other day I was on the phone with her and her mom didn t see that she was on the phone with someone and she starts yelling at her and calling her an ***-hole, dumbass and even stupid then she proceeds to slap her on her shoulder. The other day her "dad" walked in and asked her is she fed the dogs. She said no but she will. He said that it was fine and he will "take care of it". She worries and walks into the living room where he, her step dad, is holding a gun up to the dog s head. I m not sure what happened next but the dogs a "fine". A minute ago she was on the phone with her friend and her "dad" comes in and tells her she isn t cleaning her room fast enough then picks up everything up off her bed, throws it, breaks the ceiling fan and her flat screen tv. She tells me not to tell anyone. I told my mom and we are both very upset this is happening to her but we can t call CPA because her mom and "dad" are the only people she has. I turned 17 a few weeks ago and suddenly my mother is going on and on at me about growing up. There are certain things I do (play video games, draw, etc) that she disapproves of, although she never used to. Now, all she ever says is "you can't do that now, you're 17" or "stop acting like a kid, you're 17." It feels like I can't do anything anymore without her yelling that i shouldn't be doing it. I'm a male who is 18, reserved when it comes to girls. I'm nervous around them all the time. Growing up I've been teased at by relatives and people in school. Often I would just think about girls I like when stressed over homework or home life. I don t know, really. Its very complicated. Im too scared to even talk to my dad, i fear that he would shout at me. As a result, im too far apart from him. One day, the window was leaking water (due to a heavy rainstorm). I didn t notice it, because i was in my headphones watching a movie, until the leakage formed a puddle and soaked all of my plugs. I was trying to do something about the problem, until my dad intervened. And he was telling me to remove everything near the leakage in a loud voice. I was removing the an RC car that got wet, and he said in a loud voice "You have this? Your not a little boy anymore!" He saw my room untidy, which i struggle to maintain tidiness. He was treating the leakage, and while he asked me to help out, i felt humiliated by what he says (i don t know what is considered as humiliation, but im sure i did felt that way). Then i started crying, I stayed in the bathroom with the lights off. He noticed me in the bathroom crying in there for an hour. Then he got mad at me for crying. He shouted, "Why are you crying? Be a man, stop crying!!!!" "Go fix your room." He sounded so aggressive that i cried even more, and i had a breakdown. Dad just walked away and told mom to talk to me. She said stuff like: "Your a christian, your not supposed to act this way" "control your emotions" "shouting is ok, its a form of discipline. My parents shouted at me too when i was young. Your relatives do it too." I don t know what now...

My sister hits me everyday for no reasons, I have many bruises, and when I tell my parents she lies and acts innocent and they believe her or sometimes they punish both of us and they yell at me more. I'm 13 and last year they promised me something extra cool cause my stomach is ****** up long story and I couldn't go to school for the whole year wich sucks and long story short they didn't my get me anything any way way this your year I came prepared I saved up a ton of my own my from working and some other crap I have like 800 bucks and I was going to by myself a new beautiful guitar and my grandpa offered to get me a new amp from the pawn shop and my dad keeps telling me he will get some an awesome guitar and amp and there's like a 99percent chance he will not and he says if I get an amp from then pawn shop it will be broken wich might be true but I'm pretty knowlagble I can fix it he says I should get an acoustic from the pawn shop he's only saying that though because he doesn't care about acoustic stuff he only likes to watch me play electric because he's only into death metal and stuff wich I'm not and I think I'm just going to get a nice acoustic next year get and amp from my grandpa who holds his promises and by myself a beatifull elctric also I would get a new acoustic from the pawn shop but the last guitar I bought there was 500 and I paid 300 for repairs and it doesn't work right

I live with my boyfriend and his mother who suffers from dementia and I stay at home with her while he is at work. We don't leave her at home alone very often but when we do, she goes into our bedroom and pilfers through our things. I have even noticed things missing, a pair of jeans, a pair of underwear and a framed picture of my father, which I later found hidden in her bedroom. Also I have woke up to find her in our room, standing over me while I am in the bed. We live in a very cheaply made doublewide mobile home and the bedroom doors do not have locks on them. Would it be wrong for me to put a doorknob on our bedroom door that locks from the inside and outside so we can keep her out? I am absolutely at my whits end!

I am 53, I stopped considering myself a father 15 years ago my daughter is 18 and my son is 17. I have had them home schooled for 10 years, I've spent minimal time with them from 10 years until now. I have bipolar and adhd it causes me to be annoyed with every thing that they do. I started beating my kids when they would cry, laugh or show any feeling 15 years ago. When they got older at 8 and 9, I would beat them harder with belts, my adhd and bipolar causes me to. My kids are pretty much emotionless now but I still beat them when they get on my nerves or speak to me. Was I a good father?

My mom moved to a new state along with my aunt and uncle and a couple cousins of mine so I decided to move to this new state as well just for the adventure which for us was almost clear across the whole country. I am currently living with my mom(because I am one of those millennials who can't afford to live by themselves but I am working on changing that). Problem is that I am not liking this new state we all live in and I am wanting to move back to my home state. I just got laid off from my job and there doesn't seem to be much career opportunities for the career path that I want to pursue but there is plenty of opportunity in my home state. The reason I say this is a problem is because my mom is not doing too good financially and the money I contribute helps her a lot and I'm worried that if I move back to my home state, it will put her even worse off. I know it's not my responsibility to take care of my mom specially being as young as I am but she's my mom and I don't want to leave her high and dry. My mother loves me, and I love her too. She was very controlling and overprotective since ever. I was very obedient even as a teenager, in that I never really left her good side at all. I'm 22, graduated and employed. All of the sudden I feel as If I can't stand her anymore, it's like she wants to change me, or things about me every time I see her. She can't just mind her own business and accept me the way I am, be it my hair, when do I leave home and when do I come back, and what I eat; she shoves her nose in it. I swear to god I'm starting to hate my mothers side relatives, I don't even want to hear about them. But no, she has to shove them down my throat. This honestly pisses me off. The only way I figured I should deal with her, and my feelings towards her is to act indifferent about what she wants and how she feels. If she wanted me to stay at home for a dinner with her brother I'd node my head, and then proceed to go out with my friends before dinner anyway. I'm behaving like a teenager all of the sudden. I can't just tell her to give me my own space, as it's almost impossible to reason with her. I'm independent financially but I don't want to move out. I don't see how it is my fault. My name is Kevin, I am 53. I have wanted my kids gone for 15 years, my son is 17 and my daughter is 18. I have been distancing myself from them for 10 years. I have allowed them to have very minimal contact with anyone from outside as I have had them in online schooling for 10 years. These kids are spolied rotten, they claim it is my job to take them to work if they apply to applications but no where in the law does it say that. We live off of a highway, my son and daughter are unable to walk as there are cars everywhere and no sidewalks or areas to walk on the side of the highway on. I did not teach my son and daughter how to drive at 15 and 16, and I am sure not going to start now. I have taken them before to apply for jobs, but no one hires them as they have no learners permit, no license and no car. They also have no money since they have never found a job yet because of this. Why do they claim it is "my" job to teach them to drive or drive them if they find a job? No where in the law does it say it is my job. It only says you have to feed and shelter them. I want to kick them out, or I would like for them to sneak out and never come back. I have wanted them gone for 15 years, my wife is on my side as I have ADHD as well as bipolar. I stopped celebrating my son and daughters birthdays when they were 8 and 9 year olds yet they're still spolied!

Question: How can I get my brother to stop abusing my mother. He treats her terrible and never shows her love. I am livid with him?

I will be leaving soon to go visit my parents for 10 days. I have a long 8 hour drive so to be more comfortable I am going to drive barefoot and keep my sandals behind my seat out of the way.

I don't talk back, go out or anything like that. But I keep accidentally -every now and then - say or do something they're not happy with. I am 16.

I'm a 19 year old guy still living with my parents and attending College. I'm not very close with my father's side of the family since my grandma died in 2008. That side of the family has gone their own way. Anyways my grandpa is kind of rude. The last time I saw him, he questioned me about my goatee and long hair. He then proceeded to tell me that I have a Beatles hairstyle and he how doesn't like it. He also commented by saying that all artists are weird. That really offended me because I'm studying Art and Design at College. He has offended me with other things in the past and I'm getting really angry. Last night after finishing my security shift I was told that I have another shift the next Friday. My father then tells me that it's my grandpa's birthday on that day and we must go wish him. I got frustrated as I feel that he doesn't deserve a wish from me as he is rude. Plus he is more fond of his my cousin than my brother and I. Is it acceptable to have this attitude towards my grandpa?

Question: I hit my stepdad in the face after an argument and ran off. What next?

He moved in to our house about half a year ago. The very first times we met there was already bad blood, he came off arrogant, bossy and self-absorbed so I never liked him to begin with. The problem is the guy kinda knows how to talk which is why everyone else from my mom to my little bro and sis seem to like him. He tries to get everyone's acceptance by brown nosing, but I could see through him, that's why he doesn't like me and keeps annoying and provoking me on purpose. We've yelled at each other, very nearly fought a few times etc. It's been no good and nobody wants to see my side of the story but just parrots "youre immature! you should grow up! blabla". The other day we had our usual fight with my stepdad and things got out of hand when he insulted me for no reason. I lost it at that point and punched him in the face. I guess it took him by surprise since he didn't say anything, just held his bleeding nose. I didn't stick around to wait but ran off and haven't been home since. I guess the problem is I've no clue what next. If I go back I'm just gonna get a total shitstorm: I'll have to apologize, hear how I'm immature/disrespectful and it was all my fault. I have very little money, 16yo and can hardly stick at my friend's place any longer. What would you suggest I do?

Question: A lot of people like me in a my extended family, what do I do about the few who don't (4 of them)?

Three don't because I am a little odd socially (I have a hard time staying on subject and when much younger (not now) I could be intrusive as a teenager and young adult (I am fine with that now). Also my mother they were hurt by and so with me being her offspring they are uncomfortable with me. The fourth just dislikes me because I am nice to her and her enemy (her brother) she dislikes this. That relative is my mother's cousin though so more distantly related. The other 3 are the ones I am more worried about LASTLY----Is it common that of the 4 who dislike me they might dislike me this year but come to like me at a later time?

Question: How do I get over the fear of my parents (mainly my mother) restricting me from which family members I see (I am 31 years old)?

Also the fear of other family members restricting me. I especially fear this at holidays, weddings, and funerals.
