My father is very strict. We're middle eastern and he is very all about "virgin til marriage" and many of my immediate cousins were arrange married to their first cousins. He doesn't believe in arranged marriages but he was definitely raised with a very strict mindset on how women should be. I'm 23 and I was raised here in the states. I've been dating my boyfriend for a year. I live on my own but my father still expects me to visit on weekends. The other day, he saw me at a supermarket with my boyfriend and stopped me and kindly asked "who was that?" When I said "he's just my friend" he said "don't walk around with men like than." It was super awkward but it broke my heart. My boyfriend walked away immediately when he saw him because he knows that my father would prefer if he didn't stay and try to explain himself. My boyfriend is half black and half white, so that makes things worse because my father expects me to be with a middle eastern. He told my mom that he saw me with some guy that looked "half black and half white". He's always seen me as an angel child especially because my older sister abandoned the family to smoke pot with some hippie dude and live with him. Its taken me almost a year to pull the truth from him. He barely looked at me, never once he called me beautiful or pretty. I AM posting this issue again for all those that have been keeping up. So, here is what just happened. He put me down again. I said whawhat is it about me that you do not find attractive? He couldn't answer the question. Then he said just look at yourself and look at every other woman and you will see what's wrong with you. How can he claim to love me and put me down like this and not be attracted. So I've known this guy at my job for some years now. We are both single. We just recently (about 4 months ago) started flirting and having strong sexual attraction towards each other. Before I only had a crush on him that he had no clue about bc I never dropped any hints or displayed it bc I was so scared nothing was gonna be mutual. We met online.. we were getting on fantastic and have spoken everyday, all day, for about a month now. He told me the day we met that he had just split from his girlfriend that day, he was on under a fake name/profile so she wouldn't find out. He told me she was crazy and stopped him from having friends etc but since he told me they had split I didn't see what was wrong with us talking (I'm definitely not the girl who dates another girls boyfriend). Here's a quick backstory: When I first met him, I had no idea that I'd come to have feelings for him and that we'd end up together. Earlier on, about a month into our friendship, I met one of his online friends. The three of us had a group call online, and his friend started asking me questions about myself. He then asked how old I was, and the wrong age slipped out. I already knew my boyfriend's (friend at the time) age, so he was hearing it for the first time too, but I don't know why I said the wrong age. At that point, his friend went on with it and there was no correcting it, so I just let it go. I didn't think I'd be hanging out with these people for a long time, anyway. Fast forward to now, and now he's my boyfriend. But here's the problem: He thinks that I'm three years older than him, when I'm actually five years older than him. (We're both legal adults, that's not the problem.) He's said many times before he doesn't mind the age difference (the three year gap he thinks we have now), but I'm still so unsure how to even bring up the conversation. I don't want to make it a huge deal, but I also want to tell him so badly because it's the one thing I have never clarified. It's a weight on my shoulders I don't want to carry, and I feel guilty when I'm reminded about it.
