I scheduled a date with my girlfriend a week ago and let my parents know. My mother works part time and told me it was fine to go out. Then the night before she told me I had to cancel because she scheduled a family member to come over to our house during my date. I asked if I could push my date back (From 12 to 1pm) but she insisted the family member would have to stay till 3pm (he arrived at 10am). She then said that I didn't give her enough notice (I had no knowledge of this family member coming over until the day before) and claims she isn't comfortable with me going out suddenly. I have gone out on other dates, I have never had a car accident, or engaged in any risky behavior. I've also never lied to her about what I've done. My mother is very conservative and knows that my girlfriend comes from a more liberal family. (My girlfriend and I are honestly in between and aren't very concerned with politics). But after I cancelled my mother said, "well, it wouldn't have worked anyway... she's too liberal" as if we would break up. This really upset and hurt my feelings, and when I expressed this, she said that I was wrong for arguing with her about changing the date. Is she wrong? Am I wrong for arguing with her about having to cancel? (I did cancel, but was hesitant too) I didn't say anything disrespectful to my mother except that I didn't understand why she forced me to proud2beme... ok, but can you explain how I was wrong?
