I'm not a rude person but when I was younger I would never say thank you or even please I can now say please ok but I still find it a bit hard. family members would always say what do you say or what's the magic word stuff like that and they still do. The reason I find it so hard if because my family will not be used to it and I once said thanks to my dad and he said I can't believe that you said that and went on about it and that put me off even more. Now I can say thanks to random people and friends and anyone else except family. Should I try and say thanks before being asked to? And when I say it I always feel really shy and embarrassed so what should I do?

Ok look here's what's going on in my house. I'm 18 my stepmom 35. Her and my dad are getting a divorce soon. And she and I are really close to each other. So today when she was in the kitchen I pulled up a random article on my phone to show her. And while she read I put my hand on her butt. And she didn't say anything. She just kept reading while my hand was on her butt. And she had like i small smile on her face.. what should I do? Should I do it again ? And please only give answers to help me get with her . My parents yell and tell me to shut up quite often. Is that normal even if they are annoyed or angry with me? If I did something wrong then is it still okay for a parent to say shut up? I want to move out but i'm scared I won't be able to afford it. They keep reminding me how I won't be able to afford it and they won't help me when I move out. I live in NY now and is crazy expensive and with a regular job I probably won't make it..I am just so tired of being yelled at all the time..both of my parents have been depressed all their life. I think now I am depressed too. They make too much for me to qualify for a scholarship in college (I only completed 2 years) & i will not be able to pay back the loan. I sacrificed a lot for my family and basically took care of them in these past two years. I just hate life so much right now 😭life is so hard..I just want to go back to TX where it was sunny and peaceful. I used to escape by going to parks and now am stuck in the cold...I want to die so bad. I know my family will not make it though if I kill myself.

Last night I was trying to finish my homework and my mom told me to clean my room because it was a mess. I started cleaning it up, but couldn't finish because it was getting late. My dad knew, my mom knew. My dad literally has been in my room 5 times today, and as I'm doing a test, he decides to start **** with me. Like are you for real? He is now yelling at me and threatening to take away my laptop because I'm doing a TEST. A TEST. I told him "Jesus! Calm DOWN. I need to finish my test first". STILL TRIES TO START **** WITH ME. Like wtf? Is he bored or something? Hypocritical much, too. He doesn't clean ****. Apparently I'm taking "too long" to finish my final exam. Seriously? If you weren't talking **** all the time I bet i could get it done faster!

I asked for help about my raging liberal vegan feminist sister in law who is absolutely rude and fake. She claims the vegan feminist sjw etc but she's actually a really lazy rude person. I live with her so I personally know this. She treats her family like crap but treats her friends like gold. Shes unemployed snd never had a job. Shes 20. She's nice in public but super mean at home. Treats her mom like crap. Her mom pays for vegan food but then eats chips bread pasta etc but is disgusted when we eat eggs meat etc.then hides non vegan food for the house that she did not pay for. I'm poc and she's rude to my son and I but is on Facebook talking about equality for all bs. Only reason I live with her is because my husband just got out of the military and need to get back on our feet. She's also absolutely rude to her own brother ( my husband) she's accomplished nothing in life yet she acts like the world owes her something. She's easily bothered and offended toward everything. Yet she's fake af on Facebook and to her friends. Her behavior is out of control. At one point her grandmother lived here temporarily while she house hunting and this girl pushed her out because they bickered. I cannot let her win again and us have to move. Help with insane behavior thanks

My mom is going to a concert with my aunts and she doesn't want me staying home alone until 4:30 to 12:00 tonight. I'm a freshman, and I have to get up at 6:30 in the morning for school. She's forcing me to go to my grandma's while she's gone and then pick me up at midnight! I need a shower, I need to eat, and I go to bed at 9 every night. My grandma has severe dementia and she can't walk well, which means her caregiver will be there. She never leaves me home alone and I want some time to myself! Please help me convince her, she leaves in an hour.

My closest family members are my mother, my half brother and half sister. Unfortunately, there is some dysfunction in our family that has caused us all to separate a bit. Also, I should point out that I live in Texas and they are all up north in Illinois, so we do have a geographical distance between us. A few years ago, I became quite ill with a serious disease which i will have for life. My mother doesn't call or write me at all (not on my birthday, holidays, etc.) even though in my life, i have always been the one to reach out and call her. I have complained to her about it a million times, but she just doesn't want to communicate much. My half siblings are the only true siblings i have and i have also made MANY attempts to reach out to them, but they are just like my mother and don't reciprocate the communication. I suppose in my heart, I would love to have a closer family and this is why i have tried. But now that i am ill (and alone....I live alone) their silence hurts all the more. I cannot believe that family can do this when someone is down and out! Whenever someone I know is ill (even if they are just a casual friend), I always reach out to them to see how they are doing. Even on holiday's, I am always the one to reach out to them and send them a message or call them but they NEVER initiate a message out to me to wish me a Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday. I feel so alone and wonder if i should even consider them family any longer.

My mom is bitter because my dad spent 3 million building a house. He gave it under my aunt's name. My grandma, aunt, and uncle are saying it's me and my siblings' house but threw a major party in our house for our cousin without us. Also one of her brother's wife ruined their marriage by telling my dad and his sister lies about my mom and her family. My parent's are still together. Also she has a feud with my mom's family and my dad keeps taking the my uncle's wife's side which is hard to believe because she tied her eldest daughter to a chair and left her like that for 3 hours, and when she was eleven, she was changing diapers, cooking meals, and cleaning the house. My dad is angry because my mom sent 4,000 dollars to her brother who keeps asking her for money even though he and his wife both work. His wife is a famous scientist and he is a teacher in a really good school. He wants a fancy car. My dad thinks he doesn't care about her because she recently started losing sight in her left eye and had a surgery and he didn't check up on her. Both my parents talk to me. They criticize each other's family. I almost always end up taking my dad's side of the family because my mom says to but I don't like making her feel bad. I do take my dad's side because he is very sensitive. He has done so many things for his family and they still like his younger brother better. His father died at a young age and that also scarred him. I don't know what to do.

Basically, I'm 15 years old and my mom talks wrongly and falsely of me. I'm very independent and I don't ask for much. I have a sexist father who thinks cleaning is "woman's work". So, the job is left to my mother and I. My mother doesn't clean after herself and when she does the whole house is a mess after dinner then it becomes my responsibility. I clean often, but on the off chance I don't she tells everyone I'm no help she even when as far to compare me to a "tub of lard"? I'm 18 and just beginning to feel so lost. My grandma raised me since I was 2 years old because both my parents were in jail. I've lived in poverty in childhood. Moved to get closer with family I moved out of my house to live with my Aunt and Uncle cause my dad and brothers weren't good influences. My dad might move and my brother might move. As I was in the kitchen, my brother placed a bag of frozen pancakes on the counter, said "Make me some", and walked away. I made them, put syrup in a small dish and set them on the table. I feel bad but I am getting really jealous of my mother-in-law and I don't know how to handle the situation. Before I start I would like to say that I definitely don't practise incest (I'm gay and I only have a sister, after all). Someone who fights for animal rights isn't an animal. And I don't want any answers saying "It just is". I want actual reasons. Ok, so the first reason why people don't accept incest is because they think it would produce genetically deformed babies. But as in my question, there is protection. And if there wasn't, there's no absolute proof that incest would do such a thing. It's like saying gays will definitely get AIDS. And also, if it is immoral to have babies if there's a possibility they can get sick, then couples who have STIs should not be allowed to be in a relationship too. The second reason is that there's a power imbalance. But once again, in my question, it's between siblings or cousins, not child and adults like parents. Some people may say it ruins the family relationship, but if you are able to love your sibling/cousin in a familial way, why not a romantic way? Will it cause their parents to die? Will it cause the siblings to die? No, in fact, romance is an even stronger relationship than familial ones sometimes. So why is it wrong? Divorced her father over 5 years ago. I got tired of living with a narcissist and when the kids left home and got married, I felt it was time for me to live for myself. Its almost time for her birthday. 5 years has come and gone, she has not acknowledged me on my birthday, mothers day, x-mas or nothing. I have her a b-day card but not sure if I should send it or not. In the past I send her b-day cards with $$'s in it and also for X-mas I send cards with $$'s in it. I get no thank you or nothing. The only way I know she gets it, is I send it registered mail. What should I do this year? Frankly I am tired of giving with no show of even appreciation. Should I continue? When I was a kid I was molested by an extended family member. Christmas brings back all the shame as it usually went on more at this time of year. I also fear I betrayed my grandparents (now deceased) by coming forward as the pedophile uncle went to jail for 7-26 years cause of it. He is still in jail. Things at Christmas trigger the pain but my Dad does not believe in PTSD unless I am in combat. It was my Mom's brother so I don't get why my Dad is so offended by me having this trauma. At the family gathering they all speak fondly of the uncle and his brothers visit him in jail. I can skip the family celebration but I just feel depressed years I do that and fear further rejection. So I skip Thanksgiving now but go to Christmas but am anxious. I am getting counseling. So with my Christmas anxiety building how do I respond when my Dad gets angry come Christmas week? I was cutting but the counselor successfully got me out of that habit. I have suggestions she has given and looking for any others. I am 31 and female. My mother is an alcoholic so not as much help though she is sympathetic when sober. Christmas she will be drunk for sure.

I live in Australia, I came back to home land to visit my relatives. Everyone is lovely apart from my grandpa. He lives like a demi god. He said "No one can eat pork or beef". So everyone had to stop eating beef & pork.That was an order. He sleeps at day time & open videos very loudly at night while everyone is sleeping. He never thinks for the others. When he says something, everyone just run around to do what they are told to do. That's how it has been in the family.When he wants to see someone, we have to wake them up if they are sleeping. If they are eating,they have to stop their meals & go to him. When he goes shopping, he expects people to follow him & pay the bills. He's a hoarder so the household is full of trash. He's still very mobile but he doesn't do anything. He will pee in the bottle or take a sponge bath in the living room. He will eat before everyone, like when u order some food, he will eat from your plate first if he's hungry. People eat his leftovers. Our culture of respecting elderlies has gone too far in this family. It annoys me so much after living in a foreign country. I have a lot of days left & everyone expects me to be respectful. But I just can't. I want to tell him that he should be considerate of people around him. But I am supposed to shut up & do what he order

I am a 40 year old woman living alone in Texas. My entire family is in Chicago. I came down here about 9 years ago for work. The last few years i have become very ill with a disease but unfortunately my family and i have never been close (due to some issues with my mother and father getting divorced when i was a child, long story but anyway not my fault). My father and I no longer speak due to him being abusive, so with him I am not concerned. However, my mothers side of the family is quite large but there have been some dysfunctional things that have also separated us. My grandmother (my mom's mother) and my mothers brothers and sisters have never reached out to me. I have made some initiations in the past to connect with them, but the conversations are short on their part and they don't initiate so i simply stopped. My mother unfortunately has issues and won't call me or contact me except an occasional post on Facebook. But now that i am ill (which is a life long issue) it would be nice to have a family member to talk with from time to time. So, what should i do? Is it worth contacting them again especially since efforts in the past have not been initiated by them in the past? I no longer wish to visit them for holidays because of the dysfunctional relationship between my mother and I. Please note that all contacts that i have been made in the past have been initiated by me. And btw, they know i am sick but no one has attempted 1 phone call or fb message!

I m not trolling- I legitimately think that I m stupid. My low SAT/PSAT scores and bad grades say it all. I study hard but nothing improves, while everyone in my grade is scoring 1500s and getting all A s in their AP classes, sometimes without studying (even for the SAT). I can t critical think at even the basic level, and this is evident in my behavior. I m suuuper klutzy and I never think about what I do and say, and everything i do say comes out in some unorganized way and people never know what I m talking about. Despite all this my parents still think i m the brightest ****** star in the universe. They re probably just doing it to encourage me but I know that I m just genetically predispositioned to be stupid because I just can t do anything even if I put in maximum effort... tried multiple strategies but nothing worked. That probably means that my cognitive abilities have reached their ultimate peak, which is sad because at peak level I perform like I never study or like someone who s way younger (I m a high school junior). How do I prove this to my parents? They keep on trying to tell me that I m smart even tho it s not true and I just want them to shut up because it s so annoying.

The whole family is meeting up for Christmas, and I have this cousin which is extremely Liberal. She is a hardcore feminist SJW, and as I am Conservative I probably will not hit it off very well with her. I have not seen her since I was a teenager, it has been quite some time. In the past, I have not gotten along very well by living around a Liberal(s) for an extended period of time. And my uncle rented a vacation house for the whole family to spend Christmas together in, however I am more worried about her starting something. I am very alt-right, she is very alt-left, I just don't see how we will be able to live together for two weeks in the same house. Either way, I'm bringing a few of my firearms to go hunting and to shoot around, it will probably p¡ss her off but whatever, so be it. She is one of those fat, snowflake SJWs that you see on YouTube, unfortunately I am not even joking. How do you guys deal with family members like this? Now he's acting all nice towards everyone and me in particular and he gave me a present for my birthday, a very expensive present. Given his dating history I'm afraid I accidentally made him attracted to me since many girls he's dated have been a bit bad. I found out my dad smokes weed when I was around 11-12. It surprised me, but I didn't ask him about it or anything. Lately tho he's been doing it more often in his shed. I walk up there occasionally and ask him questions like "whats for dinner" and such. He gets angry and tells me to go away and that the shed is "his business". And at times if I go in his shed and he finds out, he grabs sticks and starts stabbing me with them and forcefully pushing me inside and away from his shed. I have confronted him about him smoking weed by asking "do you smoke weed in here?" and "i dont care if you smoke weed in here, just be honest about it please". To which he will usually try and look confused and say "what? no get out now". He's a bad actor which makes this even more apparent he smokes weed. Whats hypocritical about this all is that he wants to know everything I do, what I do on my computer, my password to my phone & such & when I say no he says "what do you have something to hide from me?" Despite the fact he is desperately trying to hide the fact that he smokes weed. All I want from him is for him to be honest with me. So how can I go about this?

I really don't know what to say with her. She accuses me of being rebellious and disrespectful and doing things to hurt her. I'm an adult, I live in my own apartment and pay my own bills. So for example, I dyed my hair after she told me I shouldn't dye it. She got mad at me. I'm thinking, I'm an adult woman, I don't really need my mother's permission to do my own hair. But she started talking about how I was being disrespectful to her by dyeing my hair, and I was too old to be rebellious like that. She hates my boyfriend too, because we met online and she's determined that he's scamming me somehow, and then tells me I'm being stubborn and rebellious when I won't get a guy she approves of instead. She fights with my father a lot too, and then she will call me and try to talk to me, and she gets mad if I don't want to listen (because he's my dad, you know?) and accuses me of automatically taking his side and that he's manipulating me. I want to love and honor her as my mother, but I just have no idea how to respond when she says I'm being rebellious or talking back, because I feel like those are things for teenagers and not adults who are supporting themselves and trying to relate to their parents as adults. She tells me my behavior shows that I don't really love her because if I loved her I wouldn't act like this. How do I respond to show her that I do love her, but I'm not a child anymore? She says I'm "childish" for these things.

My parents agreed to take me to Disneyland during Christmas. But they said they couldn't promise me they'll take me. Now they're saying that they might have to cancel the trip if their employers tell them work is required during the Christmas season. How should I feel about this? I really really want to go but now it's like all my hopes are down. :( I'm 14.

So my medicine for seizures went up from $10 to like $150 bc medicare or something won't pay and my parents were fussing with each other that they didn't have money and everything was going on and all... so I didn't tell them, but I haven't been taking it unless I feel like I am going to have a seizure and I go to sleep. I am supposed to take 2 in the mornings and 2 at bed time. I have seizures where I shake and fall out so if I feel dizzy and have headache I go to bed not tell them bc I don't want them to know if I have one and I won't know. Sometime I go a week or 3 or 4 days without it so they don't have to buy so much because medicare won't no more.

I feel bad but I am getting really jealous of my mother-in-law and I don't know how to handle the situation. She knows that on weekdays me and my husband only have one hour together due to I work days and he works nights, she calls eveyday right at 6p, the start of our hour, and if he does not answer or tells her he will call her back, she says to him " you don't wanna talk your mom that dying of cancer, you never know the cancer may kill me tonight." I am getting a little sick of it, other then the weekend, I not got any time with him in 2 weeks due to this, and I just seeking assistance in handling this.

I'm her brother and I'm also 23 years older than her. I live down the street from my mom and her. No she's not on drugs or having sex or drinking. But she's just disrespectful. She calls my mom by her first name. She slams "her" bedroom door. She's not 18 so it's my moms and I tried to tell her she owns nothing Bc she's not a minor and she just flipped out. My step dad has a expensive vase and she broke it. At school and in public or when she's with her friends she's a little angel and everyone thinks she's cute and sweet then when it's just family shes a little devil.

I am 22 years old and I have two older sisters who are 24 and 26. So my mom sent all of us group texts asking what we wanted. My younger sister said she wanted a charm bracelet and my eldest sister said she didn't care what she wants. I then text my mom and ask her for a new dress for my friend's upcoming wedding, she text me back saying "WTF, i'm not getting you anything". Meanwhile, she text my sisters saying that she will buy them things. My mom never likes me visiting, she always calls me a bitter disappointment and now wants me to pay her back 4,000 dollars from college. Does my mom hate me?

My older sister is going to be "leaving the nest" in the summer, and I'll be really sad because we are actually quite close even though we do have occasional arguments. She's always there to help and I don't think I can stand walking past her bedroom to see it empty. I want to make more good memories with her before she leaves but I feel like the better the memories are the more I'll miss her. Is that true? Also, do you know how I can make this transition at the end of summer easier?

When I was five my parents had another baby that resulted to moving from our small cozy townhouse to a big house in the middle of nowhere. sometimes I feel so alone, I don't have any neighbors and people fly down the road we live on so my parents don't even let me go for a walk. I told my parents about the issue and they told me "That's what I should think about when I'm buying my own house." But I don't want to have fun then I want to have fun now. Last year my parents actually considered putting our house on the market but my dad said that he would miss the house too much. He loves the outdoors and living out here but I don't. I feel like I'm missing out on all the fun things kids do, like I'm missing out on a normal childhood.

I work at a dental office we have two new receptionist who have been working with us for almost one month. We have an extremely bad turnover rate. Today the receptionist starting shaking while laying on her desk then all of a sudden stood up and fell straight back on her head while shaking horribly and having white foam coming out her mouth. Me and the others ran to call 911. Myself and the other new receptionist ran to the side door to hold it open for the ambulance. The lady doctor we work with (she is not a nice person to us at all) ran out and yelled to us get back in here now and answer the phones! We are missing out on people making appointments. We said the fire department asked we hold the door. She said no now! So she ran back inside and got our office manager lady and she said come inside and go to the back office and answer the phone NOW! so i just said okay because the new girl looked very frazzled about this whole thing. So while walking to the phones i saw the new girl crying. She said they yelled at her again and all she did was say please give me a few minutes to take all this in. They were still doing CPR on the other girl. Well after they all left the new girl said shouldn't you call her family or someone as an emergency contact and the manager and Dr said she can call her family when she wakes up at the hospital now get back to work. Should i call our corporate office about this? I am very disturbed but i know if i do they will definitely retaliate.

She was disqualified from them because she worked 22 hours last week instead of the max, 20. Now she won't get money for food. I don't know how this is going to work because we could barely get by with the food stamps, she worked extra without realizing it because we needed money for bills and christmas was coming up. I'm 14, i just got my first job about 3 months ago, and i've been saving my money for christmas gifts but now i'll have to use it on bills and food. My mom got upset and said whatever, like shes not even going to try to change it or re apply. My mom can't go for child support because my dad doesn't work, she can't work more hours because she has back, hip, shoulder, etc problems and she just had surgery. Our family hates us so we can't ask for help. I'm an only child. The letter also said she makes 1,700 a month, which is false. She makes less than 900 monthly. What can i do? What can i tell her? Where can she start? Or is she right and there's really no way to get the ebt back?

We are both 24. Since she is an adult I figure I have no obligation to tell her mother. Her mother can be nasty and plays favorites among her children. However she would have the right here to be angry. My cousin said she sleeps with guys who propose sex as "DTF" which is Down to (F word). To me that sounded very vulgar and I told her that. She said she has not done it since last winter. So do I need to tell her mother or am I best just keeping my mouth shut as I told the cousin it sounds grouse. I am not terribly close to this cousin as our mothers don't like each other but I do see her 3 or 4 times a year. Sorry, I meant to say gross, not grouse.

She won't let me see him or the family cause he is an alcoholic so she thinks grounding me from the family gathering will make him get help. It has been 4 years since we attended though and my grandfather has not gotten help. This is my Dad's family so it is easy for my Mom as she can still see her family. I feel so ashamed to be the only grandchild along with my siblings not there. I feel like I am being disloyal and my Mom says my grandmother considers our family disloyal. My Dad just does as my Mom says and my Mom hates her in-laws. So how do I convince my Mom to let me see my grandfather and his family for Christmas? She is punishing me to get him back for being an alcoholic. On my Mom's side my only cousins are toddlers and the family is not as big. We see my Mom's family once a week. He said it right in front of me and my family while we were gathered around sitting together. One of my family members told hm it wasn't a nice thing to say, but he continued to say it backhandedly. I feel worthless, depressed and I hate myself. He already is aware I have had self esteem issues with my looks too, as a result of abuse and bullying I suffered as a child from other people. I never go out, i'm secluded and am losing drive to pull through life. Btw, my parents didn't raise me, so I don't really know them properly either. I don't live with them either.
