My parents recently got divorced and my mom doesn't have a lot of money so we moved into a very small apartment. There is one very small bathroom, and it is hard to change in there. My question is it ok for me to just change with my brother in our room? I have done it a couple times and my brother just turns the other way when he sees me. |

Another time was sometime after our mom died, our uncle sent me and my brother each $100 cash for Christmas in a Christmas card and our stepfather made us give the money to him so he could buy drugs with it. He also used to make us pick up pecans out of our yard in the cold and rain so he could sell them and keep all the money. |

The agreement is that I spend a month with my grandmother during the summer, and I leave for my grandmothers in two weeks. Anyway, my mom is being all nice and taking me out for ice cream and taking me to chipotle, my favorite place to eat and taking me shopping. She normally just yelled at me and threatens me every day, but now that its getting to the day I leave she's being all nice. She tells me she wants me gone all the time, so I don't think its because I'm leaving for a while. The whole reason why my mom doesn't have full custody of me is because she abused me and threatened to do things to me so my grandmother fought for custody and got partial. Is my mom trying to get me to think she's good and she isn't who she seems to be before I leave? Or could it be that she's just trying to make herself look good before I leave and tell my grandmother what I've been up to for the last four months? I just really am confused about why now, after 16 years, she is trying to be nice. It won't change anything in my mind because I still dont want anything to do with my mom after I graduate. Also, am I wrong to want to cut my mom out of my life after she abused me for 11 years and took me away from everything that made me happy? |

A couple of months ago, I started hanging around the wrong crowd and eventually, she saw I had a pipe I was hiding and I got suspended for vaping at school. She is so against all of this because all of her siblings got in trouble for smoking and some went to jail. Now I'm sorry that I got caught not that I smoked weed and she just never lets me do anything. She never trusted me before, but now trusts me less, how do I get her to trust me? Yesterday he slapped me int he face for using the wrong pan to make an egg. i do not respect him; i hate him and can t wait to get out of this house when i am 18. I am only 13 now and plan to parent the exact opposite way once i have kids; i never want to have my kids feel afraid of their dad. My dad does not hit my mom, however, just me and he used to hit my sister, he doesn t anymore. I do not feel the need to tell anyone, i m just trying to make the best of my life and go to college far away. i wonder if he is bipolar sometimes because he gets really angry really fast for really dumb reasons? My mom has had mental and physical health problems as long as I could remember. Only recently has she put herself in assisted living. Anyway, I have a sister who is 18months younger. She lives at home with my father she is 27yrs old. She pays rent but not much. I do everything any of them ask from me...I feel like if I don't they will use it against me when I need help or they will automatically blame my bf of 10yrs who they don't like very much. They think he has me brainwashed...lol. But he still tries and helps them out too...he cleans their house for them for crying out loud and he's lucky if he gets a thank you after. I am talking to the Marines about an enlistment. My cousin lives with me and my grandma. He don't do nothing and takes 15-20 dollars a day! Over 5,000 a year. For nothing. All he does is sleep and raise hell. He wakes up and cusses her out telling her to buy his cigs and to bring him 10 dollars back to get high. He's 19! Gots a kid and is nothing. I stay out of it as much as possible. I want to try to help him he acts like "yeah I will go to the marines with you" or " I am gonna get a job " but don't. He laughs and hazes me because I play my PS4 all day or am playing basketball with friends. I'm meeting my marine recruiter Tuesday for me. I want to be a Marine. | Posted: 19 Jul 2015 12:14 PM PDT I feel like I will lose my ******* mind if I live here any longer. my father has been physically and verbally abusive to me, my mother has witnessed it all and does nothing, she just comforts him afterwards. he is homophobic, racist, and sexist and has the shortest temper I know. my 17th birthday was last week and he just left me a list of chores to do on the counter. my mother is so submissive to him and she is such a *****. when she and I fight she'll say things like "I'm done being your mother" and will give me silent treatment. I have psychological issues, depression and whatnot, from abuse (including being in a year and a half long relationship with an emotionally abusive guy that just ended) and have been to therapy several times, but my mother claims they don't work and has canceled my therapy twice (two different therapists). she's a jesus freak and doesn't accept me because god forbid I'm not homophobic and support feminism while she tells me I invite myself to be assaulted by the clothes I wear. when i say something about my dad and his messed up behavior she yells at me not to talk about him like that and punishes me. they both tell me I don't try and that I'm a screw up. I hate every second that I'm around them, they make me hate myself. I can't believe this is how they treat their only daughter. I used to think that I was smart and competent and a good person but now I am only filled with deep anger. |

My mom sleeps in the living room so I can't exit out of the front door. Our patio is on the 2nd floor so that's a no-go. It seems almost impossible to do this because she is a light sleeper and can hear almost everything, even when I try to be sneaky. |

I'm 16 and my younger sibling is 13. we both can't drive and the doctor told her that she can't drive too until she's fully recovered. my dad spends most of his time at work so the one who usually drives us to places is my grandma and I hate it because she drives slowly because my mom can't handle fast speed and so all the cars honk at us and its annoying. I know it sounds selfish but I swear I can't take it anymore and I tried to endure this as much as possible but I can't anymore! we can't travel nor go far distances in the car and summer for me consists of watching movies or texting my friends while they have fun. my dad wants me to start studying for my SATs and grade 11 and I DON'T WANT TO but I can't say anything. how can I have a good summer with all this going on? I love the family, but they take in several preschool kids and toddlers. That really isn't the age I'm passionate about. ...With Family B, the idea was brought up in a conversation recently. I told them I'd considered looking for a family to live with. I was not asking them to let me do this or anything, but little did I know they were thinking about this after they got their basement refinished. They have five kids (8, 8, 12, 12 and 16), and this is the age group I love because I feel I can be more relational and mentor them. Not to mention that they have friends over all the time that look up to me as well. I heard him opening and closing the front door and I heard another voice talking. I told my mother because she told me his friends were not allowed over after him almost getting arrested. When he found out he got pissed at me for telling her. We ended up yelling at each other over why I told my mother. After that he started making threats at me, telling me he was going to hit me and he was going to shoot me. Then he started to try and prove me wrong. I ignored him because I figured my mom would sort it out. Then he went and got the gun, we have one for hunting and protection, and went into his room threatening suicide. I immediately took my sister to my car and was preparing to leave. The neighbors got involved and one woman took the gun from him while we waited for my mom to get home. When my mom got home she started yelling at my brother and then yelling at me saying it was my fault. I don't live with my mother but I have stayed and picked up the house to make sure my sister of okay. I'm considering leaving but that's only because I don't know what to do at this point. I'm almost tempted to completely cut contact with my family for this. I don't know what to do. |

Im not gonna sit here typing a million reasons and examples. I'll just give you one example that pretty much sums him up. He times our showers! Me and my brother get 4 minutes. The girls get 8 minutes. Theres a 4 minute egg timer stuck to the tiles so we can see how long were taking. No, were not poor, were wealthy so this isnt about money. He doesn't care for the environment. Also we'd have to be jointly taking some pretty long showers to make the water run out. Whywhywhywhywwhywhywhywhywhywhy?????????????????? |

Everyday, they yell at me for rediculous reasons and they always tell me how useless I am. I m 16, and I ve muting them out because I m just so tired of them yelling at me. I have 2 other siblings and my parents treat them like angels (I m the middle kid). There was this one time they decide they decided to go on a cruise. They bought tickets for everyone else in the family but me. The excuse was so that I could watch the house. But seriously. 3 days alone. I am currently in grade 10 piano. For nearly the past 8 years, piano has always been a favoured activity that I have always wanted to participate in. My parents hate it when I play the piano. They hate paying for my expenses. They hate the sound of the piano in general and always tell me to stop playing it. They plan on selling my piano in a few weeks. I ve always told them how much I enjoy playing the piano but they don t think the same. They think it s a waste of time. My mom always tells me how I play horribly and I should just quit learning piano. Which gets me even more fired up. My dad was trying to set up an arrange marriage for me in exchange for 2 houses. I ve applied for hundreds. However I have a minimum wage job to start saving money. With this minimum wage job, I am paying my cell phone ($55 a month), $250 doctor s bill debt, and will be spending several hundreds of dollars in dental work (my parents never took me to a dentist as a kid). On top of paying those bills, I have to save for a car because my mom will not let me drive hers. However, she is going to make me give her $50 each paycheck. Why? She doesn t give me a reason and says "It s none of your business what I do with it". My father makes enough for us to live comfortably. But she spends incessantly. When I was a teenager with part time summer jobs, she forced me to give her my entire paychecks. If I didn t give her money she would fight with me and argue and nag nonstop. She will do anything to get her own way. I cannot afford to pay all my bills (debt and upcoming) on minimum wage while giving her money just because she s controlling. I don t know what to do. I know it s my fault for giving it to her, but she will scream and threaten me until I give up. I need my money to get a car and move out but I don t know how I m going to do that when she basically steals my money. |

| Posted: 19 Jul 2015 10:40 AM PDT I think my mom rejects me she recently got divorced last year and I feel she doesn't spend enough time with me She could go days without a stone turned she would go to the gym everyday and then would either sit on her phone texting loads of different men but is real protective of her business and is really shady she would eat lunch and I would clean it and then she would just stay in bed till 5:30pm get ready for work and comeback at 11:00pm she doesn't even cook me dinner anymore I cook it myself for me and my sister I feel more of a mother figure to my sister too she is 8 I feed her and dress her do her hair my mom almost every weekend is going on dates the minute she gets home from work or goes out partying last night she didn't return home till 8am she also drinks a lot aswell she would drink every night 2-3 bottles she smokes to and if I want to get my hair done I'm screamed at for selfishness I've tried talking to my dad buy he doesn't understand am I being dramatic or is she rejection me I'm 15 btw |

My mom always buys our school supplies, but it stresses her out trying to purchase all of our supplies. I don't want her to have to worry about it this year, so using the rest of the money from my summer job, I'd like to pay for as much as I can (which will likely be all of it). How do I do it without her knowing? |

| Question: My dad is forcing me to go to a new school!? Posted: 19 Jul 2015 10:05 AM PDT My dad is forcing me and my sisters to go to a new school this fall. He's been working there for the past two years part time, and he just got promoted to a full time position, and now we can go for free, but I really don't want to change schools! I don't think my younger sisters really care or understand what's happening--they're just excited to go to school with our dad. They don't realize how embarrassing that is. And I already have a lot of friends at my current school. Plus, at this new school, I wouldn't be with my twin brother anymore, because it's an all girls school. It's also an independent school, meaning it's going to be full of rich white girls, it's going to be 10 times stricter, and the uniform is much more horrible than what I have now. I have a pretty standard blue uniform now, but the new uniform is bright green and yellow. How can I convince my dad not to make me go? Is there a way I can use my twin brother to my advantage? IDK what to do, I've told him so many times I don't want to go, but he won't listen to me! |

So he would give me a little money to help me with food and school supplies and things. So ever since i married my mom is charging things for ne to pay around the house. Since he went on deployment. I wouldn't mind paying the cable or the lights. And i would give her money for her pocket to for whatever she needed. Like 100 dollars. For whatever. Then she starts to get greedy and tells me she wants 350! For herself. When the bills i paid are 200 and up. When i have my own bills. To pay. Then she goes around the whole nighborhood telling im married what im doing. Where i go to school all my personal information. People come up to me telling what she said. Then she starts to bash on my spouse for not doing what hes supposed too?? When i think hes doing fine. What should i do? Should i move elsewhere? |

Posted: 19 Jul 2015 09:35 AM PDT My adult son has O.D several times, very sick and in pain, out in the street at times, homeless, hungry, steals from family, depressed, has had 2 abscesses on his leg where he injected, been in jail, did go to rehab fro 3 mo, but always, always, goes back to it, and he tells me that as unhappy as this makes him, the urge to do it is so much stronger than the desire to stop. Hes living in the danger zone and knows that he needs to move out of this area and get help but there is no financial way to make that happen. He is trying to work and when he works he gives it his all, but he always sabotages himself. One continuous viscous cycle. ...and also, he has been beat up, and got his nose broken, Seriously, what can a parent do? Why isn't this enough for him? |

I have always tried to be a happy helpful kid, passing school with top grades in each class. I play the violin and never go out or anything. My dad though used to always beat me and my older brother a few years back. We were beaten until we had blue legs and were crying in our bedroom wishing that our dad would just die. Now he rarely hits us but yells all the time. He would call me stupid, lazy eventhough I don't do anything wrong. I am never allowed to do anything. I have no social life but that doesn't bother me because I am really not social and can't have conversations. My mum also hates my dad and has been hit and yelled at by him too. He always blames everything on us and it isn't fair. But if my mum says anything he would probably kill her. I have thought about killing him and making it look like an accident but I don't want to get caught. We are a muslim family and my dad is very strict about that. But i am not even religious and want to take my headscarf off and can't ask him because i will be beaten. i really don't know what to do about this. It's bringing me and my mum to tears. We can't cope with this anymore. There's nothing we can do however. We can't call the police because he will find out and my mum would tell me not to. I really wish that he dies. Advice please? |

They take medications to try to tame their behavior but sometimes there are good days, and sometimes there are bad days. I watch them every night and every day, except for Tuesday s and Wednesday s. My mom works at night, so she leaves around nine at night, and is supposed to come home around eight, if she were to come straight home. She and I both have boyfriends, and we started dating one day apart. However, she goes to see him everyday after work, mind you they work together, until two in the afternoon. I have to go pick her up about ten minutes away, so she can come back home and sleep. The only time she actually acts like a mother, is when she cooks dinner for us. That s it. She doesn t tell us she loves us, doesn t play games with us. She really doesn t do anything with us anymore. These past three days, her boyfriend has stayed over at our house during the day, so they can sleep together before work. She told me it s because his brother is at his house and he doesn t want to be around him, but I feel like it s because we recently got wifi. I don t know what I dislike more; the fact that she pays attention to her own boyfriend more than her own kids, or that I ve literally become the mom of a 37 year old. |

Mom always badgers him about the yard work or painting this and that, seemingly having an endless list of chores to be done. Now He just does what is asked of him then leaves til he comes home for bed and repeats the cycle> Mom has tried to get him to take her away for the weekend and he said he had too much work to do and ignored her for the night. I'm a 17 year old gal and my little sister (who's 10) came home crying from a friend's house because she wants an iPhone and my mom isn't about to buy her one. My sister's friend has an iPhone, a Facebook, a twitter, a YouTube channel, a boyfriend, and gets all of her clothes new from the mall at Forever 21. Like WTH?! When I was 10 I had Pokémon cards and climbed trees outside (oh yeah, and I was afraid of boys)! I think that the 10 year old isn't realistically responsible enough for an iPhone, blackberry, or whatever, much less a boyfriend. Yet, all the kids in my sister's fourth grade class seemed to have them except my little sister and we live in a working class area with a single mom. All I have is a laptop, a fairly cheap android tablet, and a pay as you go phone, and I didn't get those until I was 15 and I paid for them myself. Why do kids at this age have their own iPhones now? (I've always just thought that parents just spoil their kids, like whatever keeps little Jimmy or little Susie from whining, but I don't know anymore). Does it annoy you? |

We go out all the time hiking and fishing and camping. I used to have to walk to and from work but now he drives me every day. He is so good to me. But my parents hate him. They don't like that he talks to them like an adult and when they try to treat him like a high school kid he just laughs at them. They also don't like him because he took my virginity. He was so respectful and waited until I was ready but my last bf who my parents liked was always trying to get me to do things I didn't want to do. I think my parents are also racist. We live in Alaska and my family are all Alaska natives and he is mixed black/White. They always tell me I need to date a native and my dad called him the N word once under his breath. They don't let him come to my house anymore and he is in the army and girls can't go into his barracks for some reason. What can I do. He brought up the idea of moving in together in our own place but that won't be soon. I don't know what to do about my parents. I love them but I'm beginning to not like them because of the way they treat him. Thank you for any advice. |

Posted: 19 Jul 2015 08:08 AM PDT I'm 14 and my parents unfortunately got divorced when I was about 9 years old because my mom decided that she just didn't love my dad anymore and my mom ended up living in a house that was close to my dad's house so it wouldn't be too depressing for us but till this day i still feel sad that they got divorced. I'm probably not going to get married until I'm in my 20s or something but my parents divorce has unfortunately made me afraid to get married in the future. My mom told me and my brother not too long ago that that can be one of the things that divorce does to kids and we both said that that will never happen to us but little did I know is that about a year later that would turn out to be bull crap for me. First of all my grandma and grandpa got divorced when my mom was only six years old because he had a few problems back then but he's absolutely fine now. So basically since it happened to my mom and now us I'm worried that the same thing is going to happen to me. I'm going to get married to a woman one day and then several years after we get married she's going to want to divorce me or I'm going to want to divorce her. My mom also has a boyfriend now who she talks to way more than she will ever talk to my dad wich is understandable and I like her boyfriend and I think he's a really cool/nice guy but it honestly breaks my heart to see them together because if they get married one day I will behappy for my mom but it will make me really sad as well. Posted: 19 Jul 2015 07:56 AM PDT Whenever I'm at home I just sit in my room alone most of the time and when I am made to come downstairs for food I just sit and eat in silence. The rest of my family (my sister, mother and father) are all talking but whenever I speak they make me feel as if I'm stupid or they completely ignore me. So instead the only things I say to my parents on a day to day basis are my please and thank you's. I am not a mute however, whenever I'm out with my friends I am a completely different person and am known as the most funniest because of my witty and sarcastic humour that unfortunately my parents fail to see. I am only 16 and basically my life has been like this since I was around 13 where I learned that my family practically hated me. I went to a separate school to my friends due to bullying and never settled into my new school. I didn't get bullied in my new school, just the odd comment. I always sat at the back on my own and never said a word to anyone. During a parent teacher conference the student teacher did not know who I was, she just knew of my art skills. What should I do? Should I carry on being mute at home or should I confront them about it? |
