I've been approached by girls in college, but my awkwardness pushes them away. Am turning 23 in April, I've never had a girlfriend, never been on a date, never had my first kiss, virgin of couse, and I have no friends. I am bombarded with school work, and I have to study everyday for upcoming exams. When am studying, I find my mind wanders off to moments where my awkwardness pushes people away. When I try to be less awkward, I tend to be more awkward. People don't want to be around me and I find myself always alone. I study hard in school, but I question whether it's worth it because I don't have a social life and I don't even know where to begin. |

I've also had a couple jobs where people were assholes. In my 20's I had friends and i'm in my 30's it seems harder. I do go out to bars and I usually go to the same one. I like some regs there and bar staff and I don't think i'm going to make any friends if I go to the same one. I just know people to talk to. I want to start dating and I think that would be a good way. I'm not a bad looking guy and i'm pretty confident. I thought I should sign up for a good dating site. I'm still going to go out but i'm going to change it up everytime. I notice some of the regs are there all the time and if I make friends at bars they will just be drinking buddies. I don't drink much maybe once or twice a month. I had drinking buddies when I was younger. I've met women at bars that had a good head on there shoulders and didnt party much. Penny and I seemed perfectly fine and friendly for months and we both had the same schedule for classes and everything seemed pretty cool for quite some time until recently. Penny is the kind of person to typically be reserved anyways she mentioned this to me in the beginning of the semester until suddenly she completely avoided talking to me in general. I gave her space for weeks not much talking because I thought maybe she was going through something with her family etc.And then the RA on my floor approaches me tells me she is looking for housing I was like oh cool.The next morning trying to be causal about it and she completely went crazy- about things I was doing wrong as a roommate and how she hates seeing my face and how she tries to avoid me etc.Shes gone 4 out of 7 days a week and drives three hours to go home every week. And I work all week and I gave her all the space needed.All of this could've been avoided through basic communication and when I tried to reason with her she would freak out even more (which scared me and made me avoid the room) she basically told me she hates my existence.Last week as i was moving out and she ripped off and ripped up my name tags off our door and threw them in the bin.I stood up for myself and confronted her about her attitude and she now runs away from me. It was his birthday today and, since I like him a lot and he does nice stuff for me all the time, I went all out on his present. I mean, I did everything. He asked for Gummy Bears, so I went out and bought 2 large packs. We met because I made him cornbread, so I made some for him from scratch. He makes me origami cranes all the time, so I made him several with our inside jokes written on the wings. And, to top it all off, I made him a super nice letter explaining how great I think he is and how much he means to me, but nothing super romantic. So, he gets the gift, starts freaking out about it, texts me like crazy. Then it starts to get a little crazy. He says "You're the best thing to ever happen to me." I think "little weird, but okay, it's really sweet." And then, know what this kid says to me? He says "I love you." Okay. Hold the phone. Back it up. What? First off, we aren't even dating, not really. Next morning, he sent a good morning text and continued our conversation. Texting continued for the next couple days. He suggested to stop by his office whenever I'm free to just chat. After stopping by the first time, we continued are text but when the weekend hit, he stopped texting me. Then I decided to initiate the conversation, we texted until the next day. Once the weekend rolled around, he'd stop texting me. This time was different because when I came back to work he didn't text me. It was like this the next 3 days. He then texted me saying "Sorry i've been a little distant with you. I've been distant with everyone. Family issues. Stop by" I stopped by his office and chatted for a few minutes. Once again, once the weekend rolls around he'd stop texting me. Now, I feel like I'm mostly the one starting the conversation. Of course at first I was jealous and upset but then I realized it's not all about me. I loved the way he smiled when he was with her and talking to her. He looked happier than I had ever seen him and I realized that the smile on his face was truly the only thing I wanted. I soon found that his happiness made me happy too. So instead of being cold and jealous, I did everything I could to bring them even closer to each other. I truly hoped she liked him too so that maybe they would be a couple and he would be happy. I know this may sound crazy but I just can't figure out why I did this. (I know this probably sounds dumb) |
