Everything was great until corona happened which forced me to move back home, where luckily I had a job waiting for me, so the virus hasn't affected me too much financially, but my boyfriend has fallen into a deep depression. He hasn't worked in months and can't seem to find anything. I try to be supportive as possible but it's so hard now that we have no idea when we'll see each other again. Originally we were FaceTiming and playing online games together keep connected, but as he goes longer without a job he becomes more depressed. Now we text a bit everyday but getting him to even have a phone call with me is really difficult. I know this is a temporary situation and I'm trying to be there for him and not expect much in return, but it's getting really difficult. I love him and I'm not sure what to do, I'm supposed to start grad school in the UK in September but that may be pushed back or cancelled. Any advice on how to get through this tough situation? My boyfriend applied for free therapy through the NHS (he doesn't have much money) but hasn't heard back, he has an interview next week and I'm scared he'll be worse if he doesn't get it. I just don't know how to support him when he shuts me out more and more. TL;DR My LD boyfriend is unemployed and depressed, now he doesn't want to talk much, sometimes at all. I want to support him to keep the relationship going but don't know how, could use some advice or ideas. |

" She's insecure, depressed was emotionally abused. Before this happened she didn't talk to me much because she thought she was annoying me. His family is very Italian, so they eat a lot of pizza and pasta. He also gets fast food and donuts almost every day and drinks lots of beer. He has a physical job working at UPS, but it's not really cardio type stuff and he usually doesn't exercise much outside of that. I like to go hiking a lot and if I ask he'll sometimes come with me, but he gets very down on himself whenever he does because he's out of shape. He's very self conscious about his weight and he has expressed this to me a lot. Lately he's been trying to lose weight... but not in a great way. Instead of limiting junk food, he's been replacing his breakfast with a Weight Watcher's shake and not doing much else. He's been trying to get on the treadmill but only about once a week. It makes me so sad to see him be so disappointed that he's not making much progress but I can see why. I used to be 200 pounds until I lost 70 a few years back, so I understand how frustrating that can be. I try to work the ways I lost weight into our conversations and he seems to find it interesting, but he doesn't do any of that himself. I don't know how to help him without destroying his self esteem because he's very sensitive. Just to be clear, I find him to be very attractive; this isn't about that. I'm concerned about his heart health and overall self esteem. This is something that really bothers him and idk what to do. |

| Posted: 27 May 2020 05:25 PM PDT I've been dating a guy for about 3-4 months. We met on Hinge but had many mutual friends so I felt like i sort of knew him before we started going out. Everything seemed to start out really great. I took things physically and emotionally slow as I had just gotten screwed over by another guy a few months prior, I didn't want to go through similar heartbreak. This new guy was great when I told him I wanted to take things slow. We hung out about 2 times a week. We seemed to take turns asking each other to hang out. We started a couple TV series together and by about that first month, I started to feel very comfortable around him and started getting feelings for him. Well now we are about at month 3 of dating and I told him I was about ready to have sex with him. He seemed a little skeptical for some reason when I said something but I just figured it was because he knew I wanted to take things slow. After the day I told him that, he seemed to slowly distance himself from me. He barely was responding to my text messages, one of my friends matched with him on Bumble and to top it all off, he cancelled on our plans to hang out the morning of our date (he's never cancelled EVER on hanging out).
