My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and have been living together for almost a year now. When we moved in together, the first few months were great. But the past couple months my boyfriend has been showing a different side to him that I've never seen. When he gets angry over little things, he punches the door or a wall in our apartment. Not hard enough to make a hole in it, but hard enough to hurt his hand. And the stuff he gets mad over is small things that could easily be resolved. For example, I do a lot of the cleaning in our place and the other day I moved his chicken seasoning. He asked me where I put it and I told him it should be in a certain drawer. After a minute of not finding it, he got angry and started slamming the cabinets and then punched the wall. I get that he's annoyed but he takes it too far. He usually gets mad over stuff he can't find or if I "interfere" with his plans. Another example is I had to use the bathroom one night and the moment I step foot in there, he decided he all of a sudden wants to shower. I told him to wait a couple minutes because I couldn't wait and he hit a door. Is this normal behavior? My boyfriend will cool down after a few minutes and apologize for over reacting but he hasn't taken any steps to stop himself from getting angry like this. What should I say to him about his anger issues?

Little background, we dated for a total of 5 1/2 years. Met at at a past job and fell in love, moved in a year and a half into relationship. Got cats, a bunny and even are signed on one another's car loans. The relationship kind of died down around the 3 1/2 - 4 year mark. My boyfriend had what looked like warts on his genitals and I told him to go to planned parenthood so they could check it before the warts go away.
