My grades are quite poor, so I started getting tutored because I really want to improve them. I finally felt confident and even after several tests which I ended up failing, I thought I did quite well. I've tried to stay positive and focused on fixing my mistakes but I always seem to understand the topic until I take the test. My tutor doesn't understand why. My parents are extremely disappointed and my dad says it's because I'm lazy, but I've been working as hard as possible (tutoring, staying after school with teachers to speak to them and figure things out, extra time studying). I just feel horrible when he calls me names and I want to make my parents proud. I wish I was athletic, but I have a health condition that I won't go into much detail about. Sports are mostly out of the question. Musical instruments have never been my thing and I recently asked my parents about taking lessons because I wanted to improve my self-esteem but they told me it's a waste of time and that it will distract from my studies. I wish I was at least physically attractive but alas... I feel like ****. I just want to feel special. How can I convince my parents that I'm doing my best??? I don't want them to think that I'm not making any effort. How can I make them appreciate me???

I turned 19 a few months ago, and my youngest sister tells me that I'm immature and don't know how to talk to well. I find that ironic because my siblings and I were born in Canada, and I speak our native language better than her, and she agrees with it. I have heard countless people tell me that I speak my native language very well, especially at such a young age, and considering I was born in Canada. My mom makes plans, she always tells my older siblings, but always tells me last minute, so when I have plans, those are cancelled. Its like I don't have a life of my own. My cousins, around my age, are always up to date on whats going on because their moms always tell them plans, so if I'm at a family gathering, and they tell me "Hey so I'll see you next weekend" I'm confused as to what they're talking about. When I ask my mom whats happening, she tells me. My parents make me shave my facial hair, saying I'm still a kid. They also blame my height, 5ft 6in, saying it doesn't look good on me. I have had people ask me my age, when I tell them im 19, they ask why i don't have facial hair, they say I don't look my age at all. When I told my dad that someone was coming to pick up a game i was selling, he says, good, you're not a kid anymore. But yet, he says i should shave my facial hair and let my head hair grow long because I'm still not a grown adult? One instance is, when i was going to go play soccer with a few guys my age and a few guys around their 30's, my mom used to say, you're officially a man. A man? By playing soccer with a few guys? My mom tells me to take the public bus home after work instead of getting a ride from my sister if i can, just so i can develop the "characteristics of a man". Sometimes, when my mom shares serious or important news about one of my relatives to my sisters or my dad, and i join, they tell me to not get involved in their adult talks or they say I'm not old enough to know what was shared. I'm getting fed up.

My sis-in-law is a Mary Kay rep. I needed to replace some of my cosmetics, so I thought I would throw the business her way by placing an order with her. One thing lead to another, and she started soliciting to my friends which was fine. 3 weeks later, they started asking me what was taking so long with their orders. She wasn't returning phone calls, only telling me and those who caught her face-to-face that she'll advise them when their order was in. In the midst of trying to keep peace in the families and maintain my friendships, I signed up myself. She had her husband (my husband's brother) deliver ALL of the stuff to my house when I wasn't home with the message to my husband to tell me to make the deliveries since my friends were so PO'ed and she didn't want any confrontations, but only AFTER I had gotten my own shipment. I proposed that we work together on this, since I have more time than she does (I'm a SAHM, and she's got 2 other jobs besides this). She didn't want to. Fast forward to present: now she's trying to collect from me to pay her account. Apparently she never picked up the stuff to return, and it's still sitting at my house. My husband stuffed it all into the back of our closet. I can easily sell the extra stock, but I don't think it's fair how she's demanding payment. Should I just pay her "dealer cost" or the full price she's says is owed? I know from my own invoice what's owed, and it doesn't add up with what she says.

Hey so I am the middle child of my family and I am 16 years old. I have two older siblings and two younger siblings. My parents always love and spend time with my older sister and my younger sisters but not me! Whenever I try to get them alone and spend some time with them they tell me to go away (probably my age) but I just love and miss them, I tell them it all the time but they don t listen! My Mom calls me a failure all the time and calls me out on everything I do wrong. She doesn t do this with my other siblings. She also recently started drinking every night with my dad in the pub. I know that is none of my business but I just worry about them since they only used to drink on the weekends and Christmas. I just feel lost in my family and unsure of what to do, I also feel sorry for my youngest sister because my Mom is always at the pub she doesn t get any bedtime stories like she used to.

I live in the same house I grew up in with the people who raised me, my mother and grandmother. They are profoundly depressed and have a lot of issues. Neither of them have any social life at all, literally. They don't even get along with the rest of my small family. Neither of them have even dated since I was born almost 30 years ago. My grandmother asked me to continue to live with my mother after she passes since she doesn't have anyone. At first I was all for it for selfish reasons. This would mean a much cheaper cost of living in a very expensive city. But as time goes by the two of them just become more and more depressing. They love me and support everything that I do. If they didn't I would easily leave them both in the dust. They try their best but they are killing me. If I left I would feel horrible for leaving them. I would also not be able to afford anything besides a roach infested studio apartment in the ghetto. Staying with them is the right thing to do. I have the option of remodeling the basement and making it my own, but I can't even afford that right now. Im definitely not having children so I wouldn't need more space than what's in the basement. My friends say I should leave them, but they don't understand that that is not something that is in my code of ethics. In a perfect world my mother would get married and is leave the country... Please help .

By abusive, I mean my dad, and my sister, my dad constantly yells at me, knows I have anxiety and tries to make it worse. He says I'm stupid, and that he should hit me. During the summer he claimed "if you don't work you don't eat!" trying to get me to do all HIS chores, when I've already done mine. He claims I'm lazy even though I wash dishes, sweep, pick up trash, take care of my animals and wash my clothes all on my own! He's an alcoholic, he kicked down my door once, he uses fear to get me to do stuff even though he knows it makes my anxiety skyrocket. My sister calls me ****** up every time she's here, she acts like I'm faking my anxiety and depression even though I'm diagnosed, and all while this is happening my mom just SITS THERE and watches. Like she doesn't care. One time when he was drunk he threatened to kill someone, and this is terrifying because he has a lot of guns in the house. Now he wants me to eat at the table all the time even though the table is covered in mail and junk my mom buys because my mom never bothers cleaning anymore, just so he can yell at me. he claims he's going to destroy all of my stuff and send me to an insane asylum. I really feel like I can't do this anymore, living with my grandparents is no better as I'm still always yelled at. This morning I woke up to everyone yelling at me and it got so overwhelming I punched the wall. Please give advice, I am so lost.

I'm 23 & my sister is 22. For as long as I can remember we've done EVERYTHING together and it's so annoying. We shared a bedroom until I went to college. If I went out she had to come with. In HS my mom made her join EVERY club/sport I was apart of. We went to the same college...EVERYTHING. We're nothing alike & we're not really that close but we get along. Two years ago I got married & moved to Boston from Seattle. Now my mom is convincing my sis to move to Boston too. She's also asking me to get her a job at the same place as me. Hi. I'm 18 years old, though I'm still working on driving, so I can't go anywhere. Today is my mom's birthday, however my abusive dad and brother refuse to go out anywhere. Me and my mom also have no money, so we're just staying at home and cutting a cake. My mom also has to cook, because my dad doesn't want to spend money and eat out. But I want to do something more for her, because she deserves it. She has fibromyalgia (Un-curable, nonstop pain every day), yet she works really hard. My dad took away her disability money from her wallet and kept it for himself, so she can't buy a gift either. We also have no other family or friends near us. My brother for a while used methamphetamines. He went to rehab twice and came back well. About 5 years ago he started acting different again and we all suspected he is doing drugs again; well we all now he is. He doesn't wants to go to rehab again but he states he wants to get better. He has been the caused of why there has been issues with my other siblings and my parents. He steals or pawns things from siblings and then things get lost. He has not done that to me, I really want to help but I do not know what else to do. I recommended him about programs for him to go but he doesn't go. He doesn't work or help my parents. He is always in his room playing on the phone, he thinks that everyone is out to get him. From what I have learn in school I believe he may have Paranoid Schizophrenia. I just do not know how to help him get well.

On my moms side of the family, I see my family only for family parties/ holidays. They do not get mad if I don t call during the year just to chat. That s the type of person I am, the kind who doesn t like calling just to chat. The other side of my family gets mad when I do not call to say hi or stop by to visit. This side of the family is more strict and always has a negative attitude towards subjects that I bring up. Recently I stop talking to my dad. Is this disrespectful? Was I wrong? Growing up I was a daddy's girl. I would always hang out with my father. I was that girl at 10 years of age running to her father when he came home. When I was 13 my parents got divorced. At that point it seemed like I had lost my relationship with my father he, it just was not the same because he would put the woman he would date before me and my sister. For example. When my dad first start dating the woman who is my current stepmom she would tell me things like "I am smarter than you "I know your father better than you do . Till this day she has never apologized. I was the type of child that was always open to having a relationship with my stepmom. But she looked at me as a threat because she knew I was the closest to my father. She would compare herself to me. All I wanted was a stable relationship and I wanted to continue the relationship with my father as I once had. One day I had a disagreement with my father. My step mom feels that she has the right to insert herself, she calls her self protecting him and looking out for him. My brother in law is hard for me to get along with. He gets very drunk a lot and often says things he probably doesn't mean. I understand he is an alcoholic I don't let that change my opinion of him. Just last week I had a birthday dinner at my house where the whole family came. He went to the bathroom and shot his gun, "on accident." It was so loud everybody was absolutely horrified that something bad had happened..Then when we were eating we all were a little shaken. He had the nerve to shoot it again under the table. Then just last night we get a call from the police that he's in the drunk tank. What are ways I can connect to this man? Should I get drunk with him? My mother is always controlling me. My mom has never given me my privacy because we are always sharing the room. She does not let me get rest i need because she snores loud. my mom often invites a visitor to sleep in my room since i have twins bed. those visitors also have a loud snoring. I think it is enough for me to share my room with mom and trying to ignore her loud snoring. For me to start sharing my room with other annoying people. My parents are divorced and my mother never lets me see my Dad on special occasions (I can see him in between holidays for example but not on the holiday). As a result I miss out on time with my Dad's family (grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc). My Dad won't go to court to get this changed and my mother tells me I can't because she is the better parent. Dad sees me less then when they first divorced and all my mother does is cut him down and claim he likes me but doesn't love me. I haven't seen my cousins since last Thanksgiving and the rest of them see each other once a month at my grandparents house. SO I am afraid they won't know me when we are adults. My Mom never let us see our Dad on holidays as kids and our Dad didn't fight for us. Now I am an adult and the wound opens at Christmas as my Dad died so the joy I felt when I finally did have 2 parents again at age 16 is now gone again (I am 37). How do I get over this hurt? I sometimes see my Dad's surviving family members but usually not as they travel or are busy with grandkids and ask me to come later (like New Years Weekend) which of course I respect. I feel like they use me. They always ask me to watch their dogs, so I spend a good $100 during the week driving to their house to let their dogs out a few times per day when they take a vacation. My dad recently got remarried. I knew he was dating, but he never actually introduced me to any of the people, so imagine my shock when I found out that he proposed to someone. The wedding was super quick and not really planned, just at the court house. And then she moved in with us. I was completely caught off guard. And my dad wants me to talk with her as if we're friends or something, and gets mad when I want nothing to do with her. And on top of this, he won't even let me go see my real mom. She lives on the other side of the country; they divorced when I was two, and I live with my dad full time, so I've never even met my real mom; I don't even have a way to contact her (I tried contacting her on FaceBook one time, but my dad went berserk when he found out, made me delete my Facebook and everything). I'm just so upset with this, and I don't think it was fair for my dad to put me in this position. By the way, I'm thirteen, so it will be a while before I move out.

Question: How do I convince my mom to let me get a car?

So I got my permit when I was 15 and drove with my mom until I was 16 1/2 and I'm now 17. My mom doesn't think I have enough driving experience and won't let me get a car until I'm 18. I can't get a JOB until I can get a car so it really sucks. I have to depend on others to take me places.

I have been with my husband for a little over 24 years now. when we married, he had Three children a daughter 13 a son age 10 and a son age 5. through the years I had put away my feeling and did my best to put their feelings first. it took a few years but the daughter came around and we developed a good relationship. never had problems with the 5 year old, but for some reason I could never break the ice with the 10 year old boy. He would go out of his way to make me miserable, but I always held out hope, as the years went by there was college he got married and had children which i dearly love. I thought finally he may have grown enough to have put his feeling in a proper place, at least he acted like it, just a month ago I started finding out things were being said about me, vile nasty things like I was sleeping around behind my husbands back, that he was telling my grandsons that i was not their grandmother, and he had spent the last four years trying to turn my younger step son against me. I felt heart broken devastated and betrayed. I let him know I could no longer handle his disrespect and he is no longer welcome in my home. was I wrong?

My parents are divorced and my mother never lets me see my Dad on special occasions (I can see him in between holidays for example but not on the holiday). As a result I miss out on time with my Dad's family (grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc). My Dad won't go to court to get this changed and my mother tells me I can't because she is the better parent. Dad sees me less then when they first divorced and all my mother does is cut him down and claim he likes me but doesn't love me. I haven't seen my cousins since last Thanksgiving and the rest of them see each other once a month at my grandparents house. SO I am afraid they won't know me when we are adults. So how do I get my parents to let me see my Dad more often and have some holidays with him? I hate Christmas because it feel so weird to only have one side of the family, plus I have no 1st cousins on my MOm's side. I am 15 and a boy.

Hi guys! I have to make a decision and I feel like whatever I'll do, I'll let someone down. As a bit of background information, I can say that at the moment, I go swimming in the mornings as that is the only timetable offered by the local pool and the cheapest option for me (I'm unemployed). I have to say that swimming is one of the few things that helped me recovered from a depression last year, and I feel so much better after a good session, that I'm scared of giving it up. I'm bound to start a course in a few weeks, and I've been offered morning or afternoon lessons. I decided at first to attend the evenings lessons to be able to go swimming in the mornings. However, I usually care of my disabled aunt a few hours some evenings per week, (feeding her and generally keeping an eye on her) and attending the course will mean that my mom and dad will have to care for her now (they only work in the morning). They say they don't mind taking care of my aunt, but I know that they actually do, and I feel like this is my responsibility, even though I have never been explicitly told that this is my duty. What should I do? Should I give up my swimming lessons and attend the morning course, or attend the evening course to take care of my aunt? Please help!!

First she got divorced for unjust reasons and then she brainwashed me against my Dad as a kid. Now I am 20 and trying to forgive her but can't. The thought of seeing her makes me sick but I have to see her at Thanksgiving so I won't have to come Christmas.

I am 23 and she is 34. She recently announced over a family dinner to me, stepmom and dad that she is pregnant. She said not to tell anyone for a couple of months, like don't announce it on Facebook. She and our mom do not speak. Our mom was not even invited to he wedding a couple months ago. They always fight. I talk to my mom everyday and tell her everything. My mom even guessed when I told her we were having a dinner that my sister said she wanted that my sister was pregnant. At the dinner my sister gave me some books to give to our mom as a very belated birthday present. So after the dinner I was very excited and called my mom and told her about the books. She asked if my sister announced she was pregnant and I said yes. My mom was very happy. Last night, a couple weeks after the announcement my mom sent a text to my sister (on one of her unblocked numbers) saying congratulations. My sister texted me and is mad for me telling her news. She always gets mad for every stupid little thing. She has barely spoken to our mom since she was a teenager and always fights with her when she does. I didn't think she counted. I talk to my mom every day and tell her everything that does on in my life. I didn't think she was included in the don't tell anybody. Should my sister be mad at me?

So my husband brother which i cant stand is coming this year for Thanksgiving. Hes really mean and for no reason. For example if i wear something weird he would talk to my husband in spanish and they start laughing and i know its about me you can just tell. Itbwas just suppose to be his parents now all of. a sudden he wants to tag along. I just cant stand him he also erased me off fb which i didnt even notice until my husband came home. Made up sombulzhshit excuse he doesnt use fb anymore even though he still does. I kinda have a feeling my husband told him to erase me which is weird he could have asked me if he wasnt comfortable with me being his freind i would have erased him.

I will be leaving soon to take my daughter to school. Since I am not getting out of my car and coming right back home I am going to drive barefoot and not bring my shoes.
