I'm an art major, been drawing and creating since I was a child, and I'm starting a design company. Art is the only thing I think I am good at, I love it, I do it everyday and I feel like my parents aren't that supportive. I don't know if they even like my art. Whenever I show them something I have worked hours on, they usually will say "cool", or tell me if something looks "off." Especially my dad. he never tells me if something looks good. He will always tell me how to make it better. I understand he is trying to help me, but he is a business man and it's almost offensive that he doesn't understand the work it takes, and how the think his ideas are better. My mom seems bored and uninterested in my art. It's not like they have never praised my art - they have told me when I do a really good job, when I've really earned the praise. But in any case, years of this has made me feel not good enough. I don't know why I need so much praise? I wish I could just create for myself and have that be enough but I would really like to "wow" them. Sometimes I will show a random stranger my art, or I will be working on art at a cafe and people will be just blown away. I want my parents to feel that way towards what I do. I know if I bring this information to them, they'll call me ridiculous and tell me of course they support me. Anyone have advice?

My stepson is fourteen years old. Up until April of this year, he has primarily lived with his mother. My husband and our family had him every night of the week after school, he only went home for bed and then every single weekend. My stepson has had behavioral issues due to living with his mother where there were no rules set. His mother has had a history of drug and alcohol problems which my stepson has admitted to many times. He was placed in a different school earlier in the year and has been doing great. After finding out his mother was being evicted from her place for the fourth time, my stepson decided he no longer wanted to live with her. Before he even had the opportunity to say anything to her, she said he had to come live with us temporarily while he was in school. She dropped him off in April and didn't come see him for a month afterward. She claims to be giving the child support money she receives to my stepson though he says he was only given money one time. He has done stellar living with us for the past two months and has no intention of ever going back with his mother. She still though will not end the child support or agree to full custody on our part. My stepson claims to hate her with a passion. He will not answer phone calls or texts, he refuses to see her and wants no part of her. Because of her past, my husband refuses to have any communication with her whatsoever after she has tried to have wrongfully arrested and thrown in jail How do we deal with her

My bestfriend and her family (2 brothers,sister,mom,stepdad) invited me to go to Israel with them. The trip is 2 weeks long!! I am very close to my mom so that worries me. my mother is going to be gone for 4 days, then I will see her for 2 days, then I would be in Israel for 15 days, then I would see her for a day and a half and then I would be in Mexico without her for a week with other family. should I take the opportunity and go? Me and my brother got moved into a foster home due to my mom and dad being "drug addicts". We have been here a week with this family and their daughter and we are sick of it. There house is disgusting and they are asshole. We need to be in bed at 8 even though im 16 and my brother is 11. Me and him need to share a room while their daughter gets the largest room in the house. I talked to my social worker who told me to "Stop being dramatic". I am tired of living hear and just want to be put back with my actual parents. Let me clarify and add some stuff. Their daughter is a total ***** to us. I caught her trying to steal our money and when we caught her her parents just shrugged it off. Also, when I said "drug addicts" I meant that as sarcasm. My mom smoked weed due to help her depression and my dad got caught with some he had bought in another state. They where not "addicts". I hardly even noticed it. She was self medicating. But it helped her.

I'm going to Pakistan this summer for the sole purpose of making my grandparents happy. ( And my mom. She wants me to go) My grandparents have done a lot of me. They've paid for all my trips, flourished my parents with money, gave me presents. They feel an incredible sense of joy when they see me. However, despite their benevolent behavior, I don't particularly enjoy the trips. I stay in their house most of the time discussing various generic topics. Sometimes, I get very bored. They have a limited grasp of English and nap everyday between 2-5:30 pm. My grandmother doesn't speak English and we communicate using basic hand/body gesticulations. The house is rustic and dirty. I don't like the living environment. Additionally, Pakistan isn't a country that I want to visit. I don't want the visit the country every year, I'm very grateful for my grandparents, but I don't want to visit them every year. My parents want me to visit Pakistan for the next five years and I just want out. In fact, I would only travel to Pakistan every 8-9 years. Is it ethical for me not to go? What should I do?

My family always says I start fights. While this is true, they are started because I really do not want to talk to members of my family. Whenever I disagree with something, I am "Aggressive" I am not raising my voice, I am not screaming, and I always sit down to try to show them that I am in no way trying to be aggressive. For example, today, (My birthday! - Go me...) I have to write an essay in history. No big deal, these things have to be done. So my mother comes into my room, demanding to read it. I used the word "Revolutionizing" and I got yelled at because "That is not my own word" and I copy pasted it... Strange, seeing as she sent me a paragraph, (Which I have to have in my essay) and when I put it into google, alas, an exact copy of a website. She told me, 4 times, "No baby you must not copy paste!" (She is incredibly belittling and it makes me very angry) She then ran downstairs, gets my sister involved, my father ( He is just an asshole, I really don't even want to get onto him, He got mad at me for getting an A in chemistry, saying, why not an A*) So my Mother and Sister have a little gossip about me, while I can hear it as I had my door open. Now, my mother booked me with mental health experts, and with disabilities experts, to help me with my mother diagnoses Psychopathy, Autism, and Apparent anger issues. (All previous Mental Health/Disabilities Experts left my house saying I was a perfectly normal child.) TL;DR Disagreement about homework makes me autistic.

My parents say that when a child doesn't listen (I'm almost 18) It's okay to push them or something minority abusive. My dad used the analogy of what cops do when someone isn't listening which I completely negated because its different (to me). My dad has: -pushed me up the stairs and pushed me to go in my room forcefully, which sort of hurt and was traumatizing. -threw my lunchbox full of food on the ground before i went to school because i was being "rude" -broke my phone case in half when he got mad at me -pinned me to the bed for like 4 seconds when he was really mad at me. thats all, and some minor pushing but my mom says it isn't abuse and my dad thinks it's ok when children aren't listening and being respectful. They also both verbally abuse me by saying stuff sometimes. My mom said that if something like that happens again she is kicking me out of the house and we live in a small town and i don't even have a car or money. I was planning on going to a top college too, but this is rough.

My little brother is so fat and literally twice my size. Yesterday he hit me full force in the back of the head and then proceeded to beat me up. My whole body is sore today and I have bruises everywhere. My Mom and Grandma took his side because they are afraid of him. I tried to call the police and then my Grandma started SCREAMING at me and disconnected my phone line. My father died when I was fifteen and my mother was financially dependent on him. She didn't bother getting a full time job or learning English so we moved in with my older sister for a while. I struggled a lot during this time because my mom treated me more like friend than a parent. She is a caring person, but now that I'm older and married I suspect she likes to use men for their money. She has a new boyfriend who pays for her groceries and gives her money when she needs it. Every time she mentions her boyfriend she always says she doesn't like him as a man, but he likes that he helps her out. My husband and I have been living with my mother a few months to save money and move to a new state. We are close to that goal now and we plan on leaving this year. My husband and I pay the rent, and we are both worried my mom won't be able to pay for her apartment. She is waiting to receive my father's VA pension, but that can take a while. I feel angry that I am in this position, and my mom doesn't seem to be interested in getting a full time job. But then again I feel guilty for complaining. She is my mother after all. She's always had other people take care of her, and I can't keep doing this for the rest of my life. I do applaud her for taking classes to learn English, but I feel like she could do more. She is fully capable of learning how to manage her finances and save money for the future. What should I do? The thing is I feel guilty after I talk to her about getting some independence. I sometimes end up yelling at her because the stress is just too much. I always go back to helping her. I guess I am an enabler too.

I have been with my BF for 13 years. He is not the best communicator and he has a lot of problems with his kids and family. He has a mom with dementia and doesn't get much help from his family, I offered he wont accept it. He wont talk about it, and yells at me when he is angry but wont tell me why. His daughter was listed as bipolar and was arrested from drunk driving. He wont tell me the context of it. I had to find out from a friend of mine who is the police officer. Now his son broke his leg, and needs surgery. He told me to mind my business. We fight all the time now. and then he ignores me for days. 1 time we were out and had a few drinks, my son asked me to pick him up food, he was so angry he punched me in the face. If he is mad at me, he says he is not mad he ignores me. If he is angry at someone else he yells at me then we fight To me this isn't a relationship and his anger and resentment has made me the punching bag. PTSD? Im thinking of finally saying good bye thank you.. we chose not to marry due to several issues monetarily in regards to child support and family. And Im happy I didn't. the issues I can handle, if they are dealt with properly, the issues never bothered me. Over the years, he has gotten progressively worse. The issues are never dealt with properly!!! If he is upset, instead of telling me, he yells at me then doesn't talk to me for days!! Its not just me, he has done this to his entire family.

one day my aunt came over picking on me and we started arguing. She got in my face and my grandma stood between us and we continued arguing. She then walked back to get a can of paint to hit me with and then I picked up a vase. I thought to myself (she has a record of attempt murder from stabbing people and hitting them in the head with hammers and she has even attacked her brothers with forks and knives) so I dropped the vase and tried to take the paint can out of her hand before she could hit me with it. After tussling for the can she then punches me in the eye then raises the paint can.. I go and punch her back and she falls and hits her head on the paint can and splits her forehead (she tries and say that I was the one who did it) when she fell I hit her again and got off . Soon as i got off, she's grabbed a knife and ran up to me. I run to my room and lock the door. She then calls the police and I get arrested for a couple weeks until my grandparents bonded me out. She has told numerous lies. I have my grandparents as witness's and took pictures of the weapons she tried to use. I have a full ride for wrestling at a college in Oregon and I really don't need this. I've never been in trouble. Her husband came by talking to my grandparents telling them that I won't win the car because she is 60 and all this other ****. ( she tries using her health as a way to get out of trouble when she starts fights) My grandparents are my witnesses and this woman has attacked everyone

I m 35, I m Bipolar (type 2), and ever since I was a child, I ve had a problem with authority figures. As a result of my having issues with authority figures, I ended up in juvenile hall, youth corrections, and have also served time as an adult for doing ignorant things. Anyway, I was taught to be independent, and to never depend on anyone for anything. I do fine when I live by myself. But currently, my mom doesn t make enough at her job to be able to afford her own place, so she resides with me temporarily. I understand that everyone has to deal with authority figures at places like a job, and to disobey that kind of authority will get me fired. But, when it comes to my mom, no matter what advice she gives me, I fight her every step of the way, because I feel like I will learn best by experience. My mom constantly tells me what to do, and I feel like I m losing my independence, so I am thinking about ditching her or kicking her out... she s THAT aggravating... when she dies, I won t have her nagging at me, and I would be relieved. My mom says I m disrespecting her, and I tell her I m grown and I ll do as I please whether she likes it or not. I m not one who can be tamed. So, what s wrong with that? My mom is disabled (partially, she uses a cane). She took my oldest son and her mother on vacation out of state. I clean her house and was pet sitting for her, because she trusts nobody else. I completed the tasks she listed yesterday and told her. I even did more than what she asked, we agreed upon an amount, etc. She is refusing to pay me until she gets back into town. Sometimes, she will come up with some excuse as to why it is not "perfect to her specifications" and try to get out of paying. She is a hoarder and a slob and it is hard enough to clean the home. No, I do not live there, I have a job and family of my own. I do this as a service to her and because she wants to pay me to help her.

My parents are upset with me because I'm usally a talkative peson, but one day I wasnt in the mood and I was quiet. I'm an incoming senior, a girl. I had a (male) teacher freshman year, we got super close. He helped me through an extremely tough time in my life that year, I needed tons of surgeries, he was the only teacher who was there to help me. This last day of school was super emotional, he said he was moving which means he won't be here my senior year. We took pictures together, he was getting choked up telling me Goodbye & how I was his favorite student, is go so far etc.. I forgot to ask him for an address because I wanted to invite him to my graduation next year. I tried contacting him through school email but they were already closed, I ended up asking a teacher for his email but they gave me his phone# instead. I texted him explaining who gave me his number and why I needed to contact him (to send him a graduation invite). He ended up saying "Yes of course I would love to go see you graduate next year! I'm going to admit this flat out, I'm not an organized person at all!! but neither is my mother. but the other day my mom asked me to clean my room because it was getting pretty messy. I cleaned for about 3 hours the other day and I actually got a lot done! It looks alot better now! but this morning my mom told me that it still looked dirty and that I needed to still throw a lot of stuff out. None of it is trash its all things that mean a lot to me like collectors items from Disney that you can't buy anymore, CD's you cant buy any more, and my drawing stuff! and its lot like its all over the place its nicely paced against the wall by my bed. This is why I never clean anything when my mom asks me because its never good enough...its always "still dirty" and shes yelling at me that my room id dirty when her room is no better! I just don't know what to do any more because if I clean I clean for hours and end up being happy with how much I got done and then my mom just pushes me down saying its not good enough. and If I don't clean we get in to arguments if I do clean we still argue. I have a younger sibling, 2 years old and the babysitter will be unavailable for two weeks, two weeks after I permanently move out of state from my mother's house. So my mother naturally asks me to drop everything and help her (she's done this once before) Problem is I'm moving to get away from her and restart my life so I have some residual anger and resentment from living back home and being unable to figure my life out because her needs and my sister's needs come before mine so been too stressed and busy being angry to figure it out. Call it an excuse or what not but it is what it is. So now it's been a week long conversation of how she shouldn't have to beg me to help her for two weeks and after that she'll no longer bug me and that I'm ungrateful and I set my own self up for failure and how she has supported me financially since I moved in with her after college. I don't ask her for money but she does let me stay in her house rent free and she paid for two years of my college education which I'm grateful for but also irritated because she hangs that over my head like a guillotine. Basically trying to figure out if I should just cave in and come back or stand strong in my ungratefulness and not come back.

I performed at the college last night with a band. It was a big performance everyone had family there. The next morning my Mom didn't even ask me how it went. I decided to say "your not gonna even ask me how it went?" She said "well I was... But then I figured you would say it was ok...." I feel a bit sad and disappointed. Why did she act like this?

I usually turn to my mom for help with my two kids when I need it, I am married and we both work full time, we don t go out partying or anything like that, we are pretty much home bodies when we get off, I have a 6 month old and 6 year old. We moved 4hrs from both sides of our family years ago for college then we just stayed and created a family, when I left my home town my mother and step father came with me to this city, they wanted the change for personal reasons. Anyway now I have two kids and I need help with baby sitting from time to time, my job schedule will be changing and I need someone to help watch the kids for 2 weeks this summer, my mother wants me to let her watch them but my mom does not like that idea, she hates the idea, however she does not want to watch them, my husband and i were moving back to our home town about 2 years ago, my mom convinced us to stay saying that we have help here but all we have is her to depend on when something comes up. I guess I just need advice this is ruining my marriage my husband desperately wants to leave to be closed to the rest of our family as we have been here 9 years but I don t want to leave my mom here alone.

I turned 18 last year and that's when my parents started becoming even more strict than before. I made a stupid decision and snuck out to see my boyfriend to go a late night escapade. I ended up sleeping with him for the first time and spending the night at his house because I didn't want to go home. He didn't want to pick me up because he said I'd get caught. Well I got caught and my parents came to get me. I've completely let them down and now I've lost everything. I've always been a top student and tried my hardest to be the perfect example for my siblings as I'm the first born. I have extremely conservative immigrant and latino parents. I wasn't allowed to get a job until I turned 18 which they've made me quit because of this. Now everyone thinks lowly of me and my parents have even called me variations of hoe and whore. I understand them taking away my laptop and car, but I would at least like to reason with them to let me keep my phone seeing as I recently bought an iPhone 6s myself 2 months ago (I've been paying for my phones and service for years) and to let me continue with school. I had registered for some summer classes and I haven't been able to go to them. I just snuck my laptop so that I could drop them last Saturday. I was going to attend community college and transfer out so that I could pay for my first 2 years of tuition myself so at to not burden them. My dad had asked us if we had had sex and threatened to take me to the doctor to find out. I lied and said no.I called my boyfriend from my brothers phone to apologize to his family. He told me that he wanted to be able to apologize to my parents for disrespecting them like this and thinks that we should be upfront and tell them the truth about how we did sleep together and try to ask him how he can regain his trust. I'll be grounded for 6 months and my dad told me I can forget about school and wait another year as I'm still young. I'm not allowed to see anyone except for family that my father approves of. I know I made huge mistake and I want to be able to show that I'm not a total screw up. Please? Any advice?

Question: How can I stop my mom from using my underwear?

It just gives me a weird feeling. She would take my underwear and never give it back so I'm on a scavenger hunt for my underwear because I can't find any. I know she's using them because you share the same room together. I asked her once before to stop but she got pissed, and yelled at me. What should I do?

Almost a month before Mother's Day even happens, people are putting up decorations and cards and flowers in their seasonal areas at grocery stores and you see ads and commercials for Mother's Day. People go all out for Mother's Day, and then you have Father's Day and people are like......meh....here's some cards and some stuffed animals. Nothing fancy. After all, dads are 'secondary parents' and will never be nearly as important as moms are. I'm sorry but I don't tolerate that. I know a lot of stigma stems from some people having either abusive fathers or NO fathers at all growing up, so this some how justifies pissing all over the really awesome dads that actually DESERVE to be celebrated on Father's Day. My experience growing up with my dad was wonderful. My dad practically carried our family on his broken back and did everything he could to make us safe, happy, and healthy. There's no way I'm just gonna hand him a simple card and be done with it. He's getting the grand treatment, just like my mom got. Lest we forget, there are awful moms out there who abandon or abuse their children/spouses too and yet we don't hold that against all moms in general, do we?

I saw a new doc the other day and long story short he said the best way to help me is for me to get sinus surgery. trust me when I say this I am scared to have surgery, and I do not want it. my friends are telling me that I have to tell my mom about the surgery and I do not want to tell her at all. here is why I do not want to tell her: 1. she must know everytime I go to the docs and what for and al this and I did not tell her I was going as it is not her business. 2. she tells all her friends and coworkers about my doctors appointments and what is wrong. 3. when I am sick she does not even know that I am sick, and if she founds out she always thinks I am either faking it or that I am not as sick as I say I am(she does not get asthma), like this year I almost had pneumonia and had 3 sinus infections and she did not know about any of them. 4. last year when I said I needed to go to the ER for bronchitis on top my asthma she was like oh can't we just pray it away. and I know my mom and how she treats me, she will of course take me to surgery if I decide to do it, but then the next day she will mostly go back to work and let me at home to fend for myself. I am scared t0 tell her because of all the things I posted here, and plus she will yell at me for not telling her that I went to the doctors. I did not want to tell her at all, I just wanted to do the surgery and hang out at a friends house for a few days but other friends said no I can't do that I have to tell her. how can I tell my mom that my doctor wants me to get surgery?

Im the 2nd eldest sister of the siblings. But the eldest always argue with me when it comes to money! Our parents are working in other country so we are only with a hired nanny. I was asking for my eldest sister to buy some food (my parents give us money every week but my eldest sis is the one holding it) but she always refuse to give us, especially i know every week we have an extra budget for our food pleasure! But she always keep it for herself, i already confronted her and she always screaming, we argue and im the one saying sorry like always, she never did. This time its again about the money we fought. im asking her to give us some for us to eat something cause our refrigerator's always empty, she got mad and screaming and hurting me physically already so i fought back cause i cant let her keep on punching me! But she is so weak that i regret punching her back i feel so sorry, i got bruises all over but didnt feel any pain. We are well provided by our parents btw. I already told my parents that my eldest sis arent buying foods for us and they got mad at her, but they cant do anything cause they are overseas. We are getting thin, from 46kg to 35kg for 1 year now since my parents left. I can see clearly too that my younger bro and sis are also getting thin their bones are visible now. I just dont know how to make my eldest sis to stand up for us especially shes the eldest, shes so selfish, she always says to respect her and that we dont trust her something like that.

One day my mom told me to add people on Skype that she considered family, well she mentioned her husband, other daughter (not me)/ my sister, and two cousins. After, I kept asking her who else she want to add and she repeated the same people and not me. I felt left out so I said what about me and her response was "oh you are always first on my list" and my response was "you never mentioned my name" . Also, I recently been laid off from work so my family members don't speak to me especially my sister. Advice.

Im 17. When i was 13, she was on my *** about weight. I lost the weight and i am 17 now. But how come my mom only reminds me to stay skinny. Why doesnt she try to teach me how to cook, clean, and shop? Im 17 and she cooks and practically ignores me and is really lazy. What is wrong with her? Am I wrong to take son away from dad? After 5 yrs. my husband doesn't show interest in our marriage or family anymore.  We live in the same house and he is never home. Always out with his friends smoking or drinking at the bar.  Sometimes he doesn't see his 1 yr. Old or me for 3 days at a time. And he takes me out maybe 2wice a yr.  I want more for my son. I want my son and I to move out of country for a better life but afraid he won't have father figure growing up.

Okay so I m just going to go for it, my mom is on drugs and has been since I was born, literally. I have gotten help before. They took me and my sister out of her care but as soon as they seen the chance that she may have been clean they threw us back in her care. In 2013 she actually hit me and my sister. 2014 she was in prison. 2015 she was out of prison and back to drugs or pills. Now it s 2016 and she almost burnt the house down last night. I m 15 and I understand how serious this is but, I m scared and I m tired of dealing with the cops, court, child services, and others who just make a big mess without actually helping or stoping the problem. I just want her sober. I don t really care for her because basically all my life she has been like this and I haven t had much to care for. My sister is 20 and will be moving out soon. But I m stuck here and the process to live with my sister would take 2/5 years to complete. What should I do?

I'm currently 16 & he's 17, my mom married his dad about 3 months ago and we have lived together since I was 14. (Wedding was put on hold due to my mom repeatedly getting sick). Around last month we were in the back with our friends in the pool and the next moment he pulled down my strapless bikini top and I swear they were choking from laughing. My face was so red and I legit cried for a while.. I mean my stepbrother and his soccer buddies just seen my rack (pretty insecure about it btw). Now he always whistles at me and winks, he even pinched my ***. My friends said not to worry about it because he's 'hot' and just joking like WTF?? but he's even "accidentally" walked in on me naked getting out the shower when we have our OWN bathrooms! He just laughed and left while I turned so red I matched my hair. His dad said he's just a prankster but I mean come on...not trying to make it into something big for my mom and him because stepdad is cool but should I ????
