It seems there is an increasing issue of people in their 20s, 30s and 40s having a difficult time dealing with their emotionally needy, baby boomer, parents. I read that the children born between the 40s and 60s had the tendency to become narcissistic adults. And raised their children to take care of their (the parents') emotional needs above the child's own feelings. From your experience with your baby boomer parents do you consider this true? Just to be clear I am not saying all baby boomers are selfish, so don't get upset, you're not being accused unless you are selfish!

Ok so.... my sister is 21 years old and still living with my parents. (I was out at 19). It wouldn't be such a big deal if she wasnt a COMPLETE bum. She doesn't always shower, her teeth are rotting out, she can't make friends and doesn't want to, she will probably never get a man or have children and probably never will get a job. She doesn't try for ANYTHING. She sits in her room all day and night long playing computer games and drawing, wakes up at like 3pm snd goes to bed at like 2am. My mom doesn't know what to do. She doesn't want to be so harsh she kicks her out with nowhere to go but god bless my sister, she is too dumb to do anything. Literally. She has never passed a job interview because she has zero idea how to talk to people or what most words mean. Shes rude as hell to my mom and all she does is literally veg out and rot in her room, barely even eating or washing. And she is really reallyyyy rude to most people. We know she needs like a friend or something to move in with or to help her find more.friends and gain social experience but it's impossible. She will NOT try and my mom is afraid she's going to find her dead in her room one day. Is there a place someone like my sister can go? Somewhere she can stay and get help for stuff like this???? We just have no answers and don't know what to do anymore...

My mom knows and is ok with it, my dad doesn't know that she knows, if he did, things would be really bad. I'm 17 and bf is 23. He wants to get my dads permisson but My dad is threatening to put him in jail. He assumes my bf is on drugs and not in school which is completely wrong. He doesn't do drugs and he is in college. My mom likes him but has to play along like she doesn't infront of my dad. My dad wont even take the chance to talk to him, he says it doesn't matter, hes a "sick disgusting man for wanting anything to do with a 17 year old". It's not like I'm 14. I won't be 18 until 7 months so I just want him to accept him but need help on how to go about it. Any suggestions?

However, this coming birthday for my wife should I tell my mother no more gifting to my wife for her birthday? And if she asks Ill tell her father started the this? Also at a funeral her father shook another Italian guys hand whose daughter died and said with-in ear shot of me because I am Italian "we have another Guinea" in the family? I don't think my father-in law likes me and I am starting not to like him although we got along at one time.

A year ago i started making beats and making music in general. I started at summer vacation so it was perfect as i didn t have to study. Now that i ve started studying again i would like to continue making beats in order to clean my mind and forget about my problems and if im lucky making some money out of it. It is very important for me to make beats, it is like my moment, like i put everything i have on doing it. The problem is that my mom thinks that it s just a game for me and that i should be studying instead of making beats but i always do my homework and study before doing it so i dont get her point. She doesn t let me use the computer to make beats. I would like to add that my mom loves classical music and that i dont and that could possibly be the problem but i would like you guys to help me please. Sometimes i feel very bad because of this. My daughter is very naive and introverted, she doesn't go out much and stays home all the time unless her friend comes around. My daughter and her friend are not your typical party girls of that age. When my daughter doesnt have her friend over, he takes on her friends role. He would go into her room and "play" around. He would take selfies with her and look through her closet and outfits. I watched my daughters behavior towards him When he is around her, she seems cold and inattentive and i just wonder why she doesnt tell me anything? My last straw was when My daughter's friend was sleeping over and they were doing eachothers makeup, hair and doing their thing and I find my friend in the room sitting on my daughters bed just watching them. I didnt know what to say so i asked him if he wanted a beer, so i got him out of there. When I asked my daughter why she didn't say anything she said "dad i didnt want to be rude, he is your friend." When I got mad and pressed her to tell me whats going on. She began to cry and said "dad he creeps us out". She then told me about an incident where they were trying on different outfits and he walked in on them changing. She said they screamed and he left but commented that they looked cute. Am I right to be livid at this and find it inappropriate even though they are 23? How would you feel if these were your daughters? What would you do in my situation? I don't want to lose a good friend if I am over reacting.

Hi, My parents are super strict, Im not allowed to have sex until Im married (which I don't want, I feel like thats my decision) Im 16 years old, and I have never been to a party before. Here in London, the kids start going to parties when they're 13 or something, ever since then Ive been turning down every single invitation. Im not even allowed to go to the local park with my close friends because my parents say I should be focusing on my studies. Hi I'm 17 years old and there is a side of my family that I absolutely hate ( mom side ) . Let me explain .... my child-hood was very rough ( psychological speaking ) I'm an only child from two divorced parents and I grew up with a stepdad that bullied me and was very mean to me growing up and that made me a very depressed child and also me and mom had issues growing up where we would argue all the time and etc. because we are the complete opposite and I feel like my mom's side of the family was always very in inconsiderate of me growing up I always got chewed out for my behaviors by them and they all talk about me behind my back and judge me all the time and they still treat me like I'm a kid and like I can't make my own decisions and it gets really annoying and I find my self always " faking around them " and I decide when I'm on my own I would just move away and distance myself but I fear they will try to reach out anyways what tactics can I do now ( while I'm still at home and around family members ) and when I'm old enough to move out ? Every now and then I'm made to go to my family from my mothers sides house. I'm closer and go to my dads side a lot more. ANyway, even though I'm seventeen I end up hanging around my eleven year old cousin Rue and these little toddler family friends (4-7 years old) that are always there. I don't know how to describe it. I can't really put my finger on it. There's just something about him that I find kind of irritating. I used to like him the best out of all my brothers and I have four. However as of late, any time I see a post on facebook by him or he makes a cmoment I find myself wanting to ignore them or other things. His life almost seems too perfect and he's always seemed super sure of himself and what he's doing. He moved out at 18 didn't go to college but winded up doing what he's wanted to do with people backing him up and encouraging him. He got married at 21 and is still happily married to this day with their first child on the way. I'll admit I find myself a little jealous and that's probably the biggest reason why I find him irritating and feel like keeping away. To be honest, they tend to keep away more and more lately anyway. I underst and there is a baby on the way so there's a lot of preparation but they never have time to spend with family. Maybe that's a good thing since ive been feeling like avoiding them or running away everytime theyre around. I guess they just make me feel insignificant even though I'm sure they don't mean to. My youngest child once begged me to let her join and it was a big no. They are so exploitive and parents gossip about their child's biggest rival in competition. I let my daughter try wearing heavy full-on makeup and my dress just to see what she thinks. She claimed that it was awful, and she didn't look good. She never ever mentioned pageants again! There's parents who force their children into child beauty pageants at 3. They were banned in France and many people find them disturbing. They're making money off of a little girl who's the "prettiest" and their dance moves are very inappropriate. I don't know any parent who would let their daughter dance so provocatively in an outfit that is too explicit in front of strangers.

I am 19 years old and adopted. I've never met my biological family before because they gave me up at birth. Recently my biological grandmother contacted my mother (that adopted me) telling my mom that my biological sister wanted to get in touch and call me. But today u was suppose to call my biological sister because my mom told her that I agreed to call her today which I did but I was to.nervous and decided not too. so i guess i just need to get this out somehow.. i think about suicide often and im scared that one day ill make up my mind and stop cowering. i think i had a great childhood i really dont remember much. by the age of 13 i realised my dad was an alcoholic well i could finally put a name to his habits. dad never drinks at home, but when he doesnt come home theirs tension in the house, mom cries and drinks. at the age of 16 i found out that my dad was cheating on my mom and i told her. huge error moms an alcoholic now, she drinks not just when dad doesnt come home. she drinks every day. she told me once she wanted to die and its my fault i shouldve kept my mouth shut. at the age of 17 my mothers brother started staying over... he went to my room and touched me at night, i was lucky he only touched my lips and nipples. i told my mom she stopped invaiting him for a while. after a year she forgave him she said ¨sorry i love him, his my brother¨ i decided to forgive him too i talk to him normal now. he doesnt know i was awake. now im 22 mom says shes missreable but that shes with my dad cause of my school. cause of me and my sisters and brother. lately shes shut herself away. she does motherly things i guess. but there is no longer any comunication. she says lately i cant stand you. i know my situation isnt the worst out there. but im just scared that one day ill make up my mind and ill hurt myself. cause once i make up my mind, nothing stands in my way.

She ask me to take her out of private school told me. she wanted to attend public high sch for ROTC&baset ball. I have to meet with the truancy office. she's missed 34 days of school.. First time I found her in a Marijuana infested place Now she's running away to her Aunt home on her father's side. Dad been dead since she was 3. Never in her life prior. She runs away to Aunt house play victim, and say that I told her not to like them. I told them to bring her home since I have custody. Told them to bring her home so that we all can talk like adults. Whenever she run away they come get her. Ive tried to have an open line of communication but they wont answer phone nor reply to texts. They lied to me about taking her to school. I call the school and was informed she wasnt there. They never been in her life until She lied and told them my hubby who raised her since 4yr old was physically abusing her when he disciplines her. 7 mos ago DCF got involved didn't see any signs to remove her and I never heard from them again after 1st visit. My hubby doesn't want any part of this since he's afraid of losing his nursing license if anything happens again. I've tried counseling, church, taking off work due to multiple phones calls from principal catching her in the hallway skipping class with friends. I tried resident therapy but she ran away. I submitted a missing person's report 4x . PD said It's nothing they can do about run away. What can I do to get my child back in my custody?

So me and my mom and my father lives with our aunt and uncle and their kids and we pay $800 a month for rent and they keep demanding more money every month. We're immigrants and we're not financially stable to move out yet. They do not allow us to turn on lights after 9, cook any food, and recently use hot water and I haven't showered in a week now because its so cold here. Me and my mom shares a room and my dad sleeps in the basement and we pay $800 A MONTH and we can't even get anything. All 3 of us work and my dad is unemployed because my mom is practicing getting her driver license soon so he has to help her out with that so we might struggle this month but it will be less stressful once my mom is able to drive herself to work. How do i deal with this? Is there anything i can do to help this situation? Do you have any similar experience ? I feel so helpless

I have four older brothers and since 2 of them have cars they are the ones taking everyone where need to go. Well ever since I got a job working nights 10pm to 7am. They've given me a ride home and to work. I'm 19 they are 20 23 25 and 31. the middle ones (23 and 25) are the ones with cars. So my dad doesn't work he just stays at home now. My mom works. So brother (25) works at like 4 in the morning and gets off at like 1 or 2. Brother(. 23) usually works around 12 and get off at 8 or 9 at night. So when he comes he takes me sometimes but he always picks me up. He always takes my 20 year brother because he starts at like 7 usually. Then my 26 year old brother takes and picks up our mom. Sometimes take me to work at night or even pick up my 20 year old brother if gets off the same time I start since we both work at the same store. My oldest brother doesn't live there Anymore but sometimes they even pick him up if they know he gets off late but usually he gets a ride with s friend or take the bus. Now do you think they are doing too much because there was an argument with my mom and 23 year old Bro about this recently. But they said they are ok with doing it because they want us catching the bus but then complain??

My sister and I were brought up to be always there for each other. It hasn't always been the case as we are totally different! She is 8 years older and I can't say she's not a good person, but certain things in her are of a very big concern for sure... Our mum recently passed away and while we are both grieving I'm trying to move on with my life while she's constantly dragging me down and makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong by not falling into a depression like she is. Something scary came up to the surface and I'm very worried about it. We were sharing our childhood memories and I remembered how once she went into some kind of psychotic mood, belted the hell out of me, yelled at me - all for no reason at all, just to show her dominance. I was only about 7yo and ever since I preferred to keep myself distanced. In return she very angrily said that of course it'd be something I bring up when she's already so upset and (to my surprise) she opened up that she used to TORTURE me when I was even younger, but I'd be too little to remember. She said it with such pride it scared me. I kind of thought she'd maybe apologise? Or somehow make me feel better about it as it happened ages ago? Instead she pushed the guilt to myself for bringing it up. Mum used to complaint many times that it was very difficult to live with her (I live away) and I don't question why... Honestly, I want nothing to do wth her now... Would you?

I'm a fourteen year old girl, and I know that I am still a teenager and not yet an adult, but I am still a human being and should be treated as one. My parents constantly bother me by making me go to sleep at 8p.m., a time much too early for your brain's activity to slow down for you to be able to fall asleep. They speak to me as if I am a baby and am incapable of understanding even the simplest things. They never allow me to go out with my friends, even though socialization is an important part of growth for a teenager. They treat me like I'm such a little kid, when they don't even know me. I don't talk to my parents about anything that goes on in my life, because they just don't understand because they believe I am still a five year old. I have clinical depression and am on meds for it, I've attempted suicide multiple times, I am not a virgin, and I've recently gotten out of a relationship with my ex girlfriend (I'm pansexual) where I was cheated on seven times... Because of all of this, I've been going through a lot of emotional trauma and they still tell me I put in no effort when I have an A and B average in school. I can't stand them constantly treating me like I'm a little kid who cannot understand anything. How can I convince them to treat me like the age I am?

Our four kids have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & depression. They will never be able to fend for themselves or care for a home. It's very difficult to get disability payments for these conditions. I'm trying to figure out where they will live once we are gone. They have four first cousins, 2 in LA & 2 in Chicago. If each of the cousins took in one of our kids, they'd all have a place to stay & not be out on the streets. Do you think the cousins would agree to this? If not, what other option do we have! If not, what other option do we have?

Hi my name is Mark I'm 22 years old so here's the deal my mom love cats too much and she always treated me like one calling me cat names and making cat sounds it was ok when I was a kid but now it's getting really weird and annoying I'm a grown man not a kid anymore , Everytime I want to talk about something serious she gets playful and treats me like a kid , I'm tired of this I'm a man and I want to be treated like one , I got nothing against her she is a great mom but I really want her to stop acting like this , so what do you think I should do ?? I do everything I can for my mother, her husband can't drive hes about as useful as a child and honestly is little to no help with anything. I let her borrow hundreds of dollars from me no questions asked when she needs it, I let her even borrow my car all the time we generally do things for eachother, However. I work 50-60 hours a week and get little to no time to myself, I rarley get a full 8 hours of sleep. My little brother who is 11 has a bus stop only fifteen feet from our house. She asked me if I could get him up in the morning BUT...This means I will get up at 6am after leaving my job at 11pm, I dont go to work that next day until 1:30 however once I wake up it is almost impossible for me to go back to sleep so I declined Im exhausted im tired I want a full nights of rest, I think he is old enough to get himself up and get dressed and head to a bus stop but then I get "I wish my kids would help me you think they would" and her and my grandmother just **** talk in the next room while I try to get more work done. My job is very physically demanding and I need my rest, is it so wrong I declined to do something one time??

Question: Is wrong that I want a baby because I m tired of watching my boyfriends kids leave to their moms ?

So long story short is I met a guy who has two amazing kids. I ve grown very attached to this little family. It kills me everytime they leave back to their moms house. It also kills me that she is going out of her way to make sure the kids don t talk to me when we are all at the kids activities together. She has tried multiple times to make the children s attorney think that I m not suitable to be around the kids. But she didn t care that I watched them when she went to California or anytime before my bf tried to take full custody. But now I want a baby of my own and honestly I think it s because of this situation. Is that wrong?

My Mom committed suicide 6 years ago. She battled Bipolar Depression. Her family blames my Dad. As a result they only see us at weddings and funerals. They never ask us at Christmas and they decline my offer to bring a gift over and they ask me to just mail it. I feel so depressed over Christmas cause the rejection hurts so much. How do I not be miserable this Christmas with more rejection? It reopens the wound of my Mom's suicide and makes me feel like I am at fault.

my sisters goes after every boyfriend i have or even guy friend that I have. She says im too ugly to get a boyfriend and wouldnt look right with one. When i had my first boyfriend i showed her a pic of him and she said he was ugly. But then i saw she added him of facebook and liked all his pics. She even messaged him because he told me. Every guy i have or friends with she calls them ugly but goes after them. Or even if i have a crush on a guy and show her she says hes ugly every time. Like today me and my boyfriend were talking outside and she came outside and walked passed us like 4 times. I can tell she did it just to see if he would compliment or say something about her. So i can't focus and i think i have ADD but my mother tells me i don't and when my dad helps i cry cause i feel pressured and stressed and i can't remember what i just read or what my mom just read to me.. Oh, hello. I asked this before, but as I said. Mm, not very helpful. I am 17 years old. I love my mother. I love her so, so much. I always have and I always will. She makes life worth living for me, and she has always been the brightest part of it. We have been so, so close, always. She is just so incredible and wonderful. She is the person I wish to be exactly like one day, because she is the most wonderful person in the world. And she tries so hard. The problem is, I have never gotten along too great with my father. I love him of course, and we have our fun times... but there's always been tension and fighting and he could never be the same to me as my mother. As I get older, though.., I don't know, feelings of something arise more and more. It feels like jealously maybe, perhaps I feel he is trying to get between me and my mother? I don't know, it just seems he has always been a competition between the love me and my mother have for one another. And I hate that. i HATE it. I can almost sense something dark inside of him. Sometimes I wish he did not live with us, sometimes I wish it could always just be me and my mother. Luckily, my older brother has never gotten in the way... but my father has simply been stressing me and making my head hurt more and more lately. I am confused, I don't understand and I wish that somebody could please help me.

First off I have nothing against it at all I'm just curious of why. Here's my story there was a girl she's 20. Still living with here parents saying she's savage and Emo. I had a different opinion on something her response was to call me a "Stupid ***** whore". She has no job, no talk of ever going to college. Saying she's an adult acting like an adult. I said her parents may not have raised her very right if she had to cuss back at my peaceful opinion. Never cussed at her she just blew up. Saying oh she helps her mom cook. She said I don't help my family. "Welll I help out with bills, the grocery fund, I'm also preparing for college what about you?".I'm not claiming myself as an adult either I'm really far from it. I never see adult Emos in real life much besides on youtube. I usually thought it was a preteen to teenager phase. Mostly that it has really died down at least where I live.

So my sister and I were arguing. She had previously said I could borrow her sunglasses and I took them on a hike. However, she apparently had no memory of saying yes and rather than ask me about them, she waited for me to leave my phone unlocked and went through my phone. She admitted to it not too long ago and now I feel as if I cannot trust her. She believes that she had every right and that I shouldn't have any secrets from her. Am I overreacting by not speaking to her?

So today I was talked to by cps. Apparently somebody called them. I'm 17 years old. I didn't want to lie to them so I told the truth. My dad has anger issues and he yells a lot. He says a lot of mean stuff. When he gets really mad he'll sometimes grab someone or push them. Sometimes he'll hit me with his open hand. They asked if he leaves marks and I said rarely. They asked for the last time that he left a mark and I told them that he pushed me into a vacum about a month ago. They asked me the last time he got mad and I told them about how he got mad and yelled this morning. They asked me if he ever hurt my mom and I said that he did when I was a young kid but after cps was called the first time he stopped. They asked me if I feel safe at home and I said yes because I do. They asked me a bunch of stuff and now I'm worried that I said too much. I was questioned by CPS when I was like 10 and they left us alone. But my parents drilled it into my head to lie to them back then and I didn't really understand what was happening. I really don't want to be taken away. I know that my parents have issues but I'd rather have them go to anger management classes and mental health evaluations. Does cps do that? Because I know that my parents love me and when dad isn't mad he's nice. I don't want them to ruin my life. We're cleaning the house now because we know that they'll be coming to visit next. What does cps do when they find a dad with anger issues?
