There is no doubt in my mind my Mother loves me and my four siblings, but now that I m married I am starting to realize her constant need to criticize her adult children s every move is not normal. She doesn t openly criticize us to our face, rather, she criticizes us (her 3 adult children) behind our back to each other. It s strange because she only talks bad about me (I m the oldest) and my two other adult siblings, she doesn t criticize my two younger siblings (yet). She criticizes us when she "feels" like we are not as good as her at something. For example, she is constantly complaining to me about my brother and his fiancé about the fact that they don t save money. She ll tell me "they re never going to amount to much with their spending habits", very negative things like that for example. My brother s finance is pregnant and she is constantly complaining that she (the finance) doesn t eat right, doesn t know how to cook, is lazy... Basically she talks very ill of us all behind our back, but to our face she is nice and affectionate. I can t help but feel like her criticism does not come from a good place. She is constantly comparing us to her and how she does things better. When we do things the way she wants us to, she finds something else to criticize us about. She is CONSTANTLY judging and criticizing everything we do. My husband and I don t have children yet so I can t really understand since I m not a mother. Any opinion or advice would be appreciated!

When I was younger I was abused. I've kept that secret for 11 years now. The thing is that the person is family. I didn't never said anything because I was afraid. Now when ever I go to the house I am forced to look at them like nothing happened. I shake his hand but sometimes he pulls me into a hug and I can't take it anymore. I can't take it but I'm force to keep the secret because my dad would kill him and he's his family. Plus I'm afraid my dad may get sick since he has high blood pressure etc. and my mom is sick as well and the many who hurt me is an older man. I just don't know what to do. I feel like one day I'll have enough and just scream it out if he keeps doing that. I try to avoid him as much as I can.

I'm 17, male. My brother is 14. He's always trying to bother me. Especially when I'm trying to do my homework, studying, ect. But he's not limited to only that. I don't even know how to describe what he does, he just acts weird. He only does this to me. I try to ignore him, but sometimes he really gets on my nerves. He likes to embarrass me in public, like, for example, when I'm talking to a female FRIEND, he's like "ohh, he wants to date you" What are some (long term) ways that I can stop him from annoying me? Yes, I do give him attention, but i can't spend my life revolving around HIS needs. I have things to do. I can't always stop what I'm doing and play with him. He's 14! Sure, he doesn't have any friends (he bothers them too). My relatives (some of them are ADULTS) tell me to hit him to show you that I'm serious, but I don't want violence. Anyways, I have tried it when he REALLY got on my nerves and it just made things worse. What's the smartest way to go about this? Sometimes, I admit, he is fun to be with, but other times he's just a pain the butt. Also, I forgot to mention, he does have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He also has some oppositional defiant disorder. He was diagnosed, I'm not just making up some illnesses and labeling him. He's also overweight and doesn't have very good self esteem. That could be why he's always trying to got on my nerves?

I recently visited my grandfather and my moms cousin was there. That was the first time my sister and I had met him and right when I extended my hand to shake his I saw him looking me up and down. I didn't bother paying much attention since we are family and I would never think of anyone thinking of me in a perverse way. After that my grandfather took him home because he wouldn't stop talking about my sister and I. After we left, my grandfathers friends called him to tell him that my cousin was talking about us, my sister, my grandmother, my mom and I in a non family way. He kept taking about our bodies. He is a 50+ year old man and after all of that I can't help but feel weird, especially when my mom forced me to hug him for a pic even after my grandfathers gf told her all of that. I'm paranoid and I'm afraid now because I don't know how to tell when I should trust someone or not. It frightens me to think that there's sick people out there.

I am a single parent working in the Middle East for 10 years now with a son back home in the Philippines who lives with my dad and my brother. My mom died when i was 15. I have been religiously sending money to my dad to support my son s education and their expenses back home. The past years my dad had been wasting money outside and not paying school and house bills on time. The fridge is always empty. It hurts that the very reason im away is to give them a better life. i have been trying so hard not to offend my dad pretending i am unaware of whats going on. I want to stop sending money to him but i dont know how to start. By the way i am also paying a housekeeper to attend to the house cleaning, laundry and look after my son s needs. Yes it might be a dumb question to ask but should my mom go to El Salvador. My grandma is pretty sick, her ulcer burst and she was throwing up blood so my family took her to the hospital right away, she the doctors did a great job since she already going to be on her way back home by Friday. Her Vital signs are great and she is pretty much fighting through this. So of course my mom my aunty wants to head to El Salvador but since its so dangerous out there I don't want her too risk her life. El Salvador was voted the #1 country with homicides in 2015. I know its risking and i do want her to see her mom but at this time is it worth it since she getting better? I'm extremely skinny. I have a thigh gap. NO, I don't have an eating disorder, I'm just made like this. My legs, arms, and thighs are so skinny. My bones show through everything. My overweight friend gets more guys than me. She's 185lbs and she still manages to get guys. I'm confident, but I get nothing. My face is okay and people said that I'm prettier than my friend. I am the youngest of my family and I am a guy and I find it weird that my brothers are very protective of me. So when I was a little kid like 8 years old I almost died as a result of some medical conditions then my doctors put me on medications that made me gain a lot of weight and I was bullied as a kid because of my weight. I was depressed because of the bullying. Now that I am losing weight and I have already lost 18 pounds I am starting to date and my brothers are going all big brother on me and they are always telling me don't have sex and they tell me to make sure she is a nice girl and not a slut. Even though my older brothers go for the sluts. Then when I get bad grades in school they lecture me. I am closest to the second oldest in my family and he is the one that is protective of me the most. I think they are scared that I might fall into depression again if I get my heart broken.

My sister has limited mental capacity, but thanks to a cousin she learned how to use facebook, I guess my cousin thought this was a good idea but now it has become a big problem to my family. Let s go back to October,I met a man on the Internet, being 19 years old i took a chance and had coffee with him. He was 23, well dressed, had a good demeanor and cool car. He seemed a good match for me. He acted a bit of a high roller and said he had a well paying job(lies).Fast forward, to Christmas. We had planned a trip to Cancun and understand we spent a lot of time together and he acted like a gentleman, I wanted a person to spend time me. My parents and I got into a fight over the vacation that was already planned and paid for, he and my dad got into a physical fight that my dad started. That night I got kicked out and started living with him. I feel it was a mistake. All of it. I don t like being on the outs with my parents now as May and I wish I could get my old boring life back. Because now, I see everything he told me at the beginning as a lie. Red flag 1 He lied about his eye color by wearing colored contacts the first time we met. He really has brown eyes and not blue. Red flag #2 He lied about his finances. He said that he had money in the bank and I am now learning of a $75,000 amount of debt.This amount is astounding to me. He lives in his parents house for Christs sake. Red flag #3 When I moved in with him in December he changed slowly..Becoming more Controlling.For instance, he gets mad if I don t answer his text within a minute. So today, I didn t even get a good morning. My dad came in my room and started yelling, first he was mad about the door being unlocked all night which isn t a big deal because we live sort of in the country but I can see where he s coming from. He told me to get my lazy *** out of bed, it s 10:00 AM and I m no longer in school due to my summer break. Then he yells for me to get a job, which I have one. A part time job but nonetheless it s still a job. The other day some 2 cycle gas spilled out of a gas tank on to the concrete while I was at work. He got angry and sent me a big angry text and when I got come he made me get a broom and water to scrub it out. I scrubbed my *** off and it wouldn t come out. He told me that when it rained the gas would wash down the yard and in to the lake and into the fish people eat and EPA would be on my ***. Not even a pint was spilled. Does anyone else have this same issue? Is this normal because none of my friends parents act this way, ever.

My mother just passed away and now it is just me and my mentally ill brother. My mom always said my brother will need a group home. My other brother lives five hours away and we are not sure how to get him to go to a group home since he must sign off to go. I'm literally becoming so miserable and depressed from the isolation. I can't take it anymore. I don't even go to college. So I kinda have no social life and my dad doesn't let me go out. I'm 23 and I feel annoyed with the fact that I'm still complaining about the fact that I am the eldest. Also, all of us are one year apart. It's me and then two boys. I should have been over this because all of us aren't kids anymore. I got into a heated argument with my mother and younger brother (who are both the middle kids), and my brother had the AUDACITY to tell me "you're the eldest, you're supposed to be respectful!" At this point, who gives a flying fudge about my birth order. Growing up, my mom would call me a horrible influence and tell annoying stories about older siblings taking care of their younger siblings when parents were MIA. My late father was also the oldest (of 6, mind you), and while he was abusive, he didn't care about birth order and he wasn't so obsessed with it and annoying like my mom and middle brother are. I also resent my mother and brother because I feel that they are rubbing it in my face because they aren't the oldest. Because of these expectation, I don't ever see myself getting married and having children. But if I ever do change my mind on kids, I will only end up with one child because I don't want the kid to go through what I went through.

In the previous question, I asked about my son's behaviour. Our oldest son was in the army and got killed a few months ago. After his death, my youngest son's behaviour changed with us, he called us cowards because we tried to didcourage him from joining the army too. He does not want avenge anybody (as some of the people said before). It is his dream since childhood. Now he does not want to see our faces. The only person he talks to is his sister. So today, My son got suspended from his school for hitting his teacher. As I said that he does not even want see my and my wife's face so the only person who asked him was his sister. He told her that their teacher is a pessimist and always keeps making fun of the army and keeps discouraging the students that they will not win against the terrorists. We are from Pakistan and everybody knows about the current situation Pakistan is in. So today their teacher crossed the line by calling all of our fallen heroes cowards and useless. My son couldn't bear it anymore and went towards the stage and punched his teacher right in the face and the principal had him suspended. Going to the school is not an option because the staff is completely useless so I was thinking that I should enroll my son in Cadet college (starts from 8th grade and ends at 12th after that you become an officer) instead of the schools where teachers discourage their students. Will this improve our relationship with him ? @ MICHEAL. If you are saying that I am telling a lie then you are a fool. As I said above that we are from Pakistan. and in Pakistan, the studies and other style is different from USA and Europe. 11th and 12th grade are considered college here and then you have to attend university or as in this scenerio, Though he will graduate and go on active duty but he will also be a student until he turns 24 and receives his degree of Military sciences.} @Them No he is not. Our country has been plagued by terrorists since 1947 and now the army is cleaning up our country. My older son died in this noble cause and neither my youngest son is a victim of this media you talk about.

I have been having problems with my daughter for 3 years now. She is 17 and got into drugs at an early age. She has been in a total of 3 rehab placement facilities. Every time she comes for a home visit, we have problems. She immediately goes out and does drugs or whatever she can. She was released form a facility back before christmas and went right back to doing what she was doing, and then tested positive for meth. she was placed back in anohter facility. This past weekend, she had a home visit. during that time, she smoked weed, drank beer...stole $2000 that i had been holding for my adoptive mother. she was going to buy a car for her grandson. She also stole $56 right out of this woman's home. We found the metal cash box, hidden in the back of her closet. I don't want her coming home again. and i feel like crap cause she is my daughter. I love her, but i have to protect this family ...am i wrong? is there another alternative?

I have been with my boyfriend for a 1.5 years. My mom met him after we started dating and one day she asked me to talk to him alone in order to ask him to have more dates at my house, she doesnt like us going out much as she says its dangerous. He was very respectful to her but we still go out a lot (always home by 10:30 though) and we come over to my house once every few weeks, mainly to please her. Shes always really nice and helpful when this happens but she doesntlike him because she says we havelaughes at her for not coming over as much as she asked him. She has been a great mother but I also really love my partner. We are each others firsts and connect on so many levels. Hes leaving to pursue his degree in august and we dont want to do long distance. We agreed to having other relaionships if it happens but we will also stay in touch...we're best friends. I wanted to go on a 2 day camping trip as a goodbye. My mom says that If I go, Ill have to leave the house. I feel sorry for ger because she is sad about my relationship, specially over the fact that I havent introduced her to my bf's family but we did this because we knew he was leaving and didnt want anything too serious. I am in college and I want to go to graduate school in a year, far from home to get some freedom (which will break my moms heart). He tries so hard to have a good time. He'll dance out of nowhere and tell you to dance with him. He'll laugh extremely loud. He'll give you a high five very energetically and say you are awesome when saying good bye. It's great for whoever he tells that to, but if we are together and he does that, it's like I'm the brother who's not having fun and goodbyes to others feel half-assed because it's either awkward if I imitate my brother or it's not as high energy. so my mother and I have always butted heads. I try my best to ignore her insults but there is a point I snap and take the bait. We get in a screaming match. I am straight forward about how I feel she treats me but it goes unheard. She constantly puts me down and compares me to women on TV. I took her to the movies. As we were watching the movie she keeps on making side comments about the girls on tv...and how if only I did this or that...I would be better or as good as these random beautiful women and tv. I tell her time and time again that I don t measure my self worth against that of other women. If women are more attractive than me, it does not diminish my self esteem. But I feel like I am losing a battle because this is a constant with my mother...always concerned about my style of dress, looks, and weight. To the point I feel rage and hate her with passion in split moments. I was just trying to take her out to have a good time but it turned into a nightmare. I have dealt with this woman ALL my life. I guess she hates the fact that I am very earthy, natural, and I am over weight. It is a disappointment to her and others the way I turned out, because as a child I was dotted on by all my relatives for my looks. I know I am a work in progress but my desire to trim down is for me alone and my health, not for anyone else. I don t feel like this is normal. I am sick of my mother and she is sick of me. I currently live with my girlfriend and her family. Her father has severe bipolar issues. He will wake us up every morning freaking out. I don't know if he's lonely or anything, but he says incredibly hurtful things to make us cry, for example: he calls us slobs while he is a major part of the issue, etc. It's his childhood. It's an awful one. He soon after begins crying and apologizing to everyone. It's just a cycle. I just don't like how he is bringing everyone down. My brother is 32 and he's busy with 2 jobs and his girlfriend and I'm his little sister but I don't think I have ever once in my life since we were little kids connected with him as a person. He NEVER talks to me. He NEVER calls or texts me to say hi or how am I doing. I always am the one to text him a short message of saying hi and hope he is doing well and he will text back thanks and that's it. He is a total stranger. He's the same way with my mom and day. On Mother's Day, he took my Mom out for brunch but he said he had to hurry up because he promised his girlfriend he would be there for her that afternoon. He couldn't even set aside one day for his own mom because his girlfriend and friends are more important than his own family. Should I just let it go? I get the feeling if I try to talk to him it's not going to make any difference

Edit I know this may sound bad, but I hate living with my Mum- and yes I mean HATE. I am actually upset living with her. My mum complains about literally everything and makes a big deal about EVERYTHING. For example, If I come out of the shower and I leave a footprint on the floor my Mum would start complaining about how "messy" I supposedly am. Then she will say sexist things like "You are a girl, you are supposed to be clean" :/ She wants me to "slim down" but yet buys junk food and I ALWAYS tell my Mum to buy healthier foods but she never listens, she buys healthy food then gives up after a month later! How on earth am I supposed to be slimmer if she buys trash food?! Don't get me wrong, I love my Mum, but I hate living with her and i disagree with most of my concepts. Uni is in 4 months and I am more than excited for it. I can finally do things that my Mum wouldn't let me do (invite friends over etc) Is it wrong for me to be this excited?

She only talks to me when i have to do something around the house. Sometimes she forgets she's angry and asks me sth like a normal person but then she remembers she's angry and we're back at her angry voice. i'm never rude to her, i get straight A's (but once in a while when i get a B she freaks out and i get grounded), i don't go out (because she doesn't let me), i just graduated from a music pre-college as well as high school, my room is clean all the time and i basically listen to anything she says cause arguing just makes it worse. whenever i try to talk to her about this she starts crying and telling me for gods sake you are my child how can you tell me something like this you should be grateful this hurts so much and so on. I'm gonna be 18 in a month but i can't move out because she doesn't let me and she made me go to a college that's near our house so i wouldn't have to stay in a dorm. all my friends got their drivers licence at 16 but she still doesn't let me go to driving school. I asked her yesterday if i could go this summer after i turn 18 and she freaked again and said no. each time my dad tries to help she's like "it's your fault she's this and that you shouldn't be supporting her you just do everything opposite from what i want on purpose..." Now i know there's no way to change her and i'm gonna have to be patient until i earn enough money to live by myself, but i could use some advice on dealing with this and how not to let her constant anger affect my mood.

Type 1 I guess it's contagious but I wear gloves around my family and wash all the dishes with boiling hot water. 2 I get high off marijuana and the accuse me of doing meth I pay rent and every morning the throw me out into streets like I'm homeless I feel they keep using mariujana as the issue but I pay rent I clean and they say I don't pay for groceries and that now they want me in some rehab program. Should I just live on the streets guys I really think their worried about my std. The other day my mom punched me in the face and I got the worst vibe from her ever as she screamed GET OUT MY HOUSE. So my older sister passed away last week and it has been hell for my family and I. She had just gotten married 4 months ago and had just given birth to her third child a week before she died (she kept saying after she had her baby that her life was finally complete, only for it to get taken away from her only a week later! She was finally happy, she finally had the family she was working so hard to get, she was only 29) and now my parents are left to take care of 2 of her children until her husband can figure out how he is going to take care of 3 kids... I miss her so much and my family is torn right now. I want things to go back to the way they were and my mom says they never will. I love my sister so much and don't know how I am going to be able to see her be buried. I can barely look at a picture of her without having a breakdown. She died almost a week ago but her funeral isn't in another week and a half due to the autopsy and Memorial Day. I saw her body in the hospital and I lost it, but I thought the worst was over, things are starting to get better slowly but it's all going to go to **** again once the funeral happens. How can I make this all better? How can I make it through the funeral without wanting to breakdown in front of everyone? I just want to be happy again and I hate everyone being so sad all the time. I miss my sister so much and I miss my family... please help me I'm lost and I just want to see my big sis again

At the restarant i sat her next too me on the booth table she kept standing up on the seat, i told her once to sit down she listened then did it again in a heartbeat, I told her again to sit down, she didnt listen, so i had to physically sit her down, then she yells at me and intends to hit me, I told her not to talk to me like that then she told me to be quiet. Finally this whole scenerio kept going on for the entire hour we were there. She did eventually hit me and then instantly wanted me to hug her. I dont know why she thinks she can get a hug or kiss after misbehaving badly like hitting me.

I ve never met my father, and in 2012 I found him on Facebook. He told me he wants nothing to do with me, so I met his brother and family. Now my brothers have just turned 17 and I want them to know about me. I m too anxious to wait till they turn 18. I figure if I write their grandma she might pass the message along. He made me drive on the highway for a really long time and I was doing fine until I messed up on reversing and I stopped to make a right turn when the light was green and he just said my sister who has never drove before is probably better at driving then me, then was making fun of me and told me to get out of the car so she can drive us...... he s been constantly yelling at me louder than I ve ever heard him tell before. So about a year ago I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment, my parents sleep in the master bedroom, and my brother and I (he's 16 and I'm 14, almost 15) have to share a bedroom. He gets the half with the door, and I get the half with the balcony slider. We have a duvet cover seperating his side from mine. It's annoying because I can't have friends over, he's constantly skyping with his friends so it's annoying, and when I tell him that he's loud and to be quiet, he tells me to shut up. Like wtf? I can't call my friends either, cause of him, can't go in my parents room cause my mom is watching TV, the living room is being occupied by my dad, ugh. And the balcony is noisy cause of the cars. I seriously want my own bedroom, but I have to wait until my dad finally starts his promotion job. I might have to go through all of summer in this stupid 2 bedroom apartment. Don't get me wrong, it's a really nice apartment, but I hate the fact that I have to sleep in the same room with my annoying older brother. Plus him and I are still going through puberty, so it's awkward. What do I do? :/

My parents want to move to another state and they asked me if I would be okay with it. I don't know because my parents really want to move because it would be better for them financially, but I want to stay because I don't wanna leave my cousins.
