I'm hoping to drive to Atlanta (about an hour and a half away) this weekend to spend the weekend with my boyfriend. We've been together for half a year and my parents love him, his parents would also be home throughout the duration of this weekend. My father continuously calls me names for wanting to do this and is attempting to prevent me from going down there. He's threatening to sell the car (it's an old family car) that my parents gave to me as a graduation present. Here's the thing though... I'm 18, I also work two jobs, I just graduated high school as an IB student, I pay for all of the maintenance and upkeep for my car. The only thing I don't pay for is the insurance (which I have asked my father numerous times to let me pay for but he refuses because he likes to have that control factor). I have never been intoxicated, never done drugs, never attended parties in school and basically did everything I was supposed to. I'm also leaving for college in about two and a half months, on full scholarship at that too. How can I make my father understand that I am not a bad kid and try and get him to "loosen the leash" a little bit. I don't think he understands that I'm leaving for college in two and a half months where I will be unsupervised, living in a dorm. How can I get him to understand that it's time for him to loosen the reins a little bit? Thanks in advance?

Ok so I'm 31 my house is going on sale very soon I don't know where I'm going. My mom just died back in December. My aunt said I may stay in a group home for a while I don't think I can handle that as they are very strict. I don't want to live with my aunt she can be strict. I have two disabilities I'm hard of hearing I have well controlled epilepsy. Do you think I should move before someone buys my house I'm worried about becoming homeless I hope that doesn't happen. Some of my friends still live with their parents. Should I try an extended stay hotel? My dad lives in another state I wished my mom was alive.

My brother is twelve years old and will play minecraft from the time he wakes up to the time he goes to bed. It is so annoying because that all he does. He does not eat much because he does not want to leave the game. A little while ago he did not want to go to the bathroom so he PEED his pants... He does not do homework. In fact, he has already been held back and he has to go to summer school. He does not talk to anyone in the house and when you try he will get upset! I tried to talk to him today and asked if he wanted to go to the park with me and he said "NO! GET OUT YOU ARE BEING ANNOYING!" So it is hard because it feels like his top priority is the stupid game. My mom does not really try with him. She will ground him for about thirty minutes because he will say he is sorry and he will start doing his homework and he never does, its an endless cycle. My mom does not make him do anything! She makes me do all of his chores! Which is annoying also. He has a few friends and the ones he does have he is super MEAN to. I feel bad for him because he does not really have a life... not to be mean or anything but any suggestions?

My mom has a bachelors degree in a good area she has had MANY good JOBS the minute nahe gets into a disagreement with someone ahe QUITS and doesn't care of the consequences of needing to pay bills so all through my damn child hood, she just dragged us through the ringer and the mud. We've been evicted, lost alot of stuff due to her laziness because after she quits she won't look for a new job she just sits on welfare and feels she doesn't need to work anymore. Now my youngest sister is turning 18 welfare cash assitance won't help her anymore when Shes 18 so now she thinks she can apply for SSI, because my little brother has it for a disability but thank god he has it or else we could not pay the rent and i have a part time job and i go to college trying to find a way out away from her, but once welfare goes its gonna be me and my brother struggling with the bills. My sisters also won't work because they say they're gonna start work study when school starts but they have other plans and won't help with the bills. I think im gonna have to drop out from school in two months and get a full time job. Because once my mom stops receiving welfare cash assistance cause i know she welont get SSI and i know damn well she won't work, cause she threatens to call the police on me for sending her work leads through email and says im controlling and harassing her when she has all the qualifications to work those jobs that other people such as myself and other people just can't walk INTO!!!!

He does nothing but insult, demean, and then get very angry to very big levels. I listen to him, and then do what he asks, and if it is not done perfectly with his own type of logic, then he gets outraged. If I ask what he means by what he says, then he'll get angry for me being "annoying" and for making excuses. He loves to say that I make excuses and for being lazy even when I'm not. If I don't ask, he'll get angry for not asking. If I tell him a very good reason of why something can't happen or that I cannot do something, then he'll get angry. If I still do what I'm supposed to do, he'll get angry, and he'll find a way to belittle my achievements. Believe me, I work pretty hard and do the best I can to follow instructions, and he still gets angry. I can still take his anger because I look at the future instead of the present, but I think, to get back at him, I won't support him back the way he has supported me. I'm here to answer back in updates.

My mom and I got into a big fight over printing last night. My dad sleeps in the family room. She almost never goes to sleep so I couldn't avoid her. She gave me used paper which jammed the printer. By my family I mean my cousins. So, all of my cousins are either in college of out of college and have a full time job. They always talking about going to concerts together and things like that. during the school year they talk about the things they have been doing, mean while I'm still school. I'm 14 by the way. I don't care that they don't invite me cause who wants a 14 year old going to concerts with 20 years olds and older. When I go to family parties no one ever talks to me because I'm so young and I don't want to talk about politics and complain about my job. I was fooling around like an idiot in my house and I accidentally kicked the wall and it cracked a .hole. I called my dad and told him it was an accident and made up a story saying that it was a chair that made a hole. I know I keep asking, but I really need the advice and I will offer Best Answer to the person who can be most helpful! My boyfriend and I broke up almost 4 months ago due to us making stupid decisions. But she made us break up. I want to talk to her about how I feel ,and if she could let us at least talk on Facebook. I overheard him ask how much me and my brother would get but she kept shushing him (he was in bad shape from all the chemotherapy). So me and my parents have usually had an OK relationship but this year it s been reaaaally bad. We argue all the time and it s usually over really dumb stuff. My grades aren t that good, so they re almost constantly criticizing me for that. I m great at sports but I skip practice a lot, so that s another thing. I m a 9th grader, so you can imagine I m out drinking or smoking a lot, which makes things a lot worse. I ve stolen alcohol from them a few times, so they use that against me even when I actually didn t steal it and they just misplace it. OMG i really need to get this off my chest. Not 1, but 2 siblings' boyfriend and girlfriend staying over at our house for 1- also 1.5 year and 2- a month. BOTH of them have NO respect AT ALL. They are literally using my siblings as a tool so that they can get everything free. First off, our house is already small enough to start of, for 5 people. Now, add 2 new kids? Lol? My mother is a single parent by the way. The electricity bills have been going up so high by $50-$100, why? Thanks to the 2 freeloaders who can switch on the air-con for 24 hours. My mum and i have been so disturbed by this, however my siblings threaten to move out if she forces their girlfriend/ boyfriend out. About 10 years ago, my husband's sister parted ways with the family on some bad terms involving false accusations, property damage, and stealing from my mother-in-law. She disappeared and cut all ties and contacts with us. Only when she was desperate for money to let her daughter do a student exchange did she try contacting anyone - and had the gall to act like nothing had happened and they'd been cast out and ignored. Now, our niece is graduating, and our nephew will be next year. We've been invited to the ceremony and party. I don't know what the kids have been told about us over the years, but it's not their fault. My husband was very close with them before they left, and I'd like to find a way to give them something. I just can't help but feel like this is some ploy by their mom to get money again. How can I give the kids a gift that she can't get her hands on?

I moved out of my mothers house 1 1/2 years ago because the relationship wasn't good it was very toxic and brought way to much stress to my life. She doesn't pay child support because she said she would buy me clothes and things like that so my dad said that was fine and she didnt have to pay. She has only taken me out 3 times to go shopping when she said she would every month. She is also supposed to pay half of the price of my braces and she is 3 months behind. She never contacts me unless she wants something. My husband seems to always do it his way or the highway,for instance: I have always wanted to adopt and he says not until we have our own and I can accept this, but I have always wanted to rescue a dog and he says no it has to be a prize lab puppyfirst,I got my dream job out of state he said we are never moving. By the way he can work from anywhere in the country, but he won't even consider leaving the state ever for anything.i am not able to work anywhere and I had to give it up. Anytime we go out to eat he refuses to go if it is more then 5 minutes from the house.The seldom few times I have gotten him to go anywhere further, he will sit , jaw clenched and give me pretty much silence. I have begged him for 2 years to go hiking and we have gone twice, which I am grateful for,but last month I found out my dad was dying. I was pretty down and asked if he would go hiking with me. He said yes and 3 minutes later invited his mother. Mind you, I'm a wreck and was so overjoyed that he said yes, then asks his mother to go. I would normally have loved it,but I really needed time without a bunch of people. He said fine I'll call her back in a guilt trippy way. I Get the impression that no matter what, he will not budge an inch from what he wants and how he wants it. I spend hours helping him with his projecs and I support him to the ends of the earth, but it's weird that if I ever asked him to go get a burger downtown, it would be like me asking him to swim across the a freezing lake.

Being frank, I haven't been in a good spot for a while now... I'm sick all the time, and have had severe issues with depression and anxiety. Because of this, I haven't been able to keep a job, and am currently unable to make rent. Even so, the thought of moving back in with them - of giving up on myself and my independence - it's frightening. I frequently have nightmares about it, and it's been wearing me out for months. I've been especially on edge recently, because I told them that I would move back in this summer in December, but as the specified time approaches, I grow even more apprehensive. I just... I don't know what to do. I know that they want me to come back, especially my mother, but I don't know if it's what I really need right now... Dou any of you have advice?

My mother has been bipolar since I was still in grade school. In those days they used to call it manic depression. A lot of my childhood and teen years were marred by my mother`s mental illness and her total lack of boundaries. She was in remission for many years but got sick again about 3 years ago and kept this information from me. She has been institutionalized now and makes ugly allegations and threats to family members. I feel I don`t mind my oldest visiting her occasionally if he wants to but my youngest is only 14 and when I think back to the impact her illness has had on me, I really don`t feel I want my daughter around my mother. She just isn`t capable of respecting boundaries and tends to cause unpleasant scenes at visits. As well, I am not totally convinced that it`s safe. She is asking to see my 14 year old but I don`t feel I want these visits to happen. I did take my child there on Mother`s Day but this person has continued to make false allegations that family are stealing from her and other stuff that is just bull and I am tired of the drama she causes. She is still married to my father and he causes drama and ill feeling too. I basically feel I am about to mainly cut my parents out of my life because I am not anxious to have my kids go through the same types of things I did as a teen with my parents. Where I live Grandparents really have no rights of access anyway but they are acting like they have every right in the world. What to do?

I'm a 16 year old girl, and my best friend is also a 16 year old girl. She's an only child and has lived with just her dad for her entire life. He was only 18 when she was born, so he's 34 right now. Obviously that's EXTREMELY young. Most parents of kids our age (including mine) are in their mid forties or early fifties. My friend's dad is honestly the most handsome man I've ever seen. He's tall, has the perfect body, a BEAUTIFUL face, very blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, etc.. Anyone who meets him is just blown away and in awe. On top of being inhumanely gorgeous, he's successful and an amazing dad, which makes him 1,000 times more attractive. He's not your typical single father at all. Me and my brother-in-law 'Bob' don't get on. He is very arrogant, always needing to be the top man. There's multiple arguments we've had and my family never stand up for me! All of my family hate confrontation (unlike him). Arguments we've had my whole family stay out of, which leaves me to be the hated one from my sister and her husband. When I stand up for myself he twists it to make HIM the victim! He abuses his kids. The other day he dug his fingers into either side of my 6 year old nephew's neck causing him to cry and all he said is "Stop being a girl. Stop crying you big pussy!" My sister didn't even flinch. He also drives my sister's car with them all in it (with no license or insurance) so fast that my nephew randomly told me the other day quietly that "My daddy drives so fast it makes me feel sick". (Last year he rolled my sister's car into a wall with my brother in it, no insurance, no license.) Should I stand up for myself in arguments? I'm the one in the family with the 'reputation' of not being able to hold my tongue and no-one therefore listens to me, so my family won't back me up. They take "Bob's" side because "it's easier" and "He didn't have as good an upbringing as you". It's ruining me and my sister's relationship as she always takes his side. Should I call the police about the car? I don't want to betray my family as they don't want to break the 'trust bond' and we should stay out of it. (But I don't want my nephews to die in a car crash). Advice?!

I was an accidental baby, my mom had custody of me until I was 10 and my father had to pay child support because for whatever reason he didn't show up in court. When I was 10 my parents got married & my dad isolated us by moving me from my mom's entire family's (this was a blessing however). When I was in 5th grade he lashed out and constantly tried to pressure me into telling him my mom had cheated on him. (Which, she had not) He would fight with her and once had me backed into my closet sobbing as he banged on it screaming "F*** you!", his lash outs continued but didn't happen often. When I was in 7th grade I went to Vacation Bible School one night with my boyfriend, that night it was raining and when I didn't text him on time (because I was in church) I got home and he screamed in my face that'd I'd never go again, chased me back to my bedroom and grabbed my neck, as well as screamed "F** You" and told me to call 911 (note my mom has a traveling job so she wasn't there, but she had to come home and he fought her about how bad I was and how disrespectful I had been, when really I did nothing). His lash outs have become more frequent and now I'm in high school. He fights with my mom, throws glasses and cups, tells her how awful her family is and jokes with me about how I should hate them (when my mom and I love them and his reasons are crap. He tries to not let us see them, and he has also bruised her a few times. Just this past time he threatened to kill her

Basically I'm a 16 year old girl from the Philippines. I'm going through really rough time, because just a few days ago my Dad found out about me and a guy I'm really close with. He told me to cut whatever I had with him, because he disapproves of me having a close relationships with guys and also having boyfriends. In short, he's pretty strict. I have no other choice than to do so, because if I don't he'll probably resign from his work to stay here or just won't let me go to school. It's just him who knows about this and we can't really tell my mom because she's hard to deal with and she just is... difficult? That's a reason why my Dad also plans to agree with her on carrying out a divorce. I just am so depressed, and I have been ever since I lived with my mom back when I was just 12 years old. he's got schizophrenia and it's also affecting me. I have never got to go anywhere for holiday or even out of town because of him. He's always shouting at me and my mum and even if I speak to him it ends up into an argument because he gets offended. He gets whatever he wants. I mean I'm not jealous but here's one example. When it's 11:00pm he makes me and my mum walk it because we don't have a car. He makes us walk to get his food because he feels like eating. And most of them don't deliver. If my mum says no he starts having a tantrum. He doesn't have his medicine to keep him calm because apparently "it has too much sugar and is making me more diabetic" but he said not to tell the doctor/nurse about it so he is obvio lying. I think for me it's better because I'm also going through stuff at them moment in school and all this adds up to it. I also have exams and I can't concentrate on even revising because all I can hear is my dad shouting at my mum all day. I think it's better for us as a family and for him to that he should live in a home for a period of time until he is better. My mum has to sleep in my room because he's just gonna end up complaining and shouting at her and she wouldn't be able to sleep. I think it will be better if he was in a home. He would learn to do things himself and appritiate what he has and what people do for him. I'll be able to concentrate on my exams. Not get depressed and worry more about my dad maybe we can be a bit calm for once.

So today my cats got out, we can't let them out yet. This isn't the first time. She went out in her pyjamas and couldn't get them, she came in screaming this family is useless they can't do anything. Yet everyday she lays in bed doing nothing. She also says she always has to get them, she's never got them before it's always been me and she's calling me lazy. In my household, my parents don't like telling me how old my grandparents are, for whatever reason, but I know that he is about 80-90 years old. Last year, he had to go to the hospital because he had trouble breathing. I suspect that he has lung cancer, but I'm not sure because my parents won't tell me because I'm 'too young'. It is nearing my birthday, and my grandpa suddenly had a hard time staying awake and breathing, so we took him to the emergency room. Most of my family members stayed with him, but my cousin and I had to stay outside in the waiting room. Later, some of my family members were crying. Now I'm very worried, and I know this sounds so selfish and self centered but I can't help but hope he doesn't get worse on my birthday, because I don't think I could handle everyone being sad on that day. I really need to hear someone else's opinion, because I have no one to go to right now.

Hello, my name is Ethan and I am a 21 year old male. A little over two years ago, I got hit at a stop sign by a drunk driver and because of this accident I suffered a broken wrist, spinal issues, multiple burns to my chest, back, and legs. It's been an extremely long road to recovery and other than my family, I haven't really told anyone about what happened to me. I was kind of lucky in that most of my injuries can be hidden by long pants, socks, and sweaters, save for a small burn on my arm and a scar on my wrist from surgery. I am finding myself shying away from intimacy and I have a boyfriend (23 and yes I am gay), but we literally haven't done anything in the way of intimacy. He must think I am a freak. We live together and I spend a majority of my time hiding what happened. Every morning, I wrap up all of my burns (so if any of it comes into view, it can't be seen). I wear long sleeved sweaters, long pants, and socks even when we are lounging around and especially to bed so he doesn't see anything. I won't let him touch me other than kiss, hug, and hold hands.He wants to do the things couples do (shower together, have sex, be intimate) and I can't help but feel like he would be disgusted by my body. I m 30 years old, married and have a toddler. When ever my brother (28) comes over to visit he will literally go through my pantry & fridge and take whatever he pleases. The thing that upsets me is that he will do this without asking. There are times when he will finish entire boxes of cereal and snacks while visiting. I finally told him he needs to stop! I told him to respect my house and to ask first. I explained to him that there is nothing wrong with eating my food but I felt he was being abusive by eating entire boxes of things. He was a bit upset and left my house. My parents are now not talking to me. I sat with them and explained my reasoning to them but all they kept saying was " you know that s how your brother is" and "he felt comfortable at your house". They both got upset and told me that I should not have been so mean. They said that I should have not told him anything and that I have ruined our relationship by my actions. It has been a week and they are not talking to me.

My mom and I don't get along period.Ever since my father and her got divorced, she became a little less ... mother like. We argue 24-7 and she always says how my personality is disgusting and how my sister is so fat. I've asked her to live with my dad but she says I can't live with him because she doesn't trust him, so I asked to live with my aunt (dad's sister) instead, but she says I can't and insists that only she can love me. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety a couple months back. She always pressures me to make all a's and look pretty so that my mother would look good. I know I seem like im exaggerating, but I honestly feel like trash and I panic when I see a b or even a low a. I studied for 9 hours on a math test (I usually study average 5 hours a day). She says that she wants to be in my life in highschool so she can guide me...but in order to guide me she needs to be around. Shes always out partying or with her boyfriend (that I don't approve because he has a wife and his daughter is my friend). She always says I'm wrong.. but sometimes I wished she can listen to what I'm saying so that we can work on a solution together. I'm open to a solution but all she says is that I'm wrong and in order to be right I have to follow what she says because she knows best. I've tried talking to my school counselor, but she later called in my mom and they talked. And now she's trying to convince me that my mother just wants best for me and we just have trouble communicating.

I knew my dad had gotten a divorce before marrying my mom but it was never talked about, ever. Last Night I googled my dads name for no reason and came across the divorce record. I found her on Facebook and scrolled thru her photos. There was a photo of her & her husband they're white and 2 kids, they were very ethnic looking. My dad isn't white. Everything came together just looking at that photo but I didn't want to believe it. Maybe it's because I'm a teen girl but I have horrible anxiety and very emotional. I was a wreck and had to go wake up my parents. I was able to get out the question are those your kids. My mom said yes and I started hyperventilating and crying. After lots of explaining & me crying I have the information that my father didn't want kids so young and with this woman and she swore she was on birth control. A week after the 2nd child was born she left my dad. They wanted nothing to do with him all they wanted was child support. They moved, she remarried and theyve call him their dad since. My dad had to pay 2 kids child support for 18 years, that was up until just a few yrs ago. I've done nothing but cry I get my mind off it then I remember. it doesn't even feel real. It feels like I'm in a movie/dream. My parents said that it doesn't change anything but i can't tell anyone. Not even my brother. & please don't reply with anything rude. my mm always invites my cousin to small family vacations like some where usually a few hours away from my house or requires a hotel. Recently we went to Santa Cruz my mom invited not only him but another person who is my cousins cusions.The car was so crowded there were eight people with 7seats.My cousin never does want to come with us but since my mom asks his mom his moms forces him. I do ask if he can mot come but then my mom pinches my ear and holds a fist near my face while hissing my name and saying stop being so mean. and also he would not ejoy coming with us any here because he in hi school when my siblings are in elementary i am i middle school. okay so im 16 and I don't really have anything else to do other than play video games, watch tv and do homework. so today she got mad when I started playing games on my computer and I was trying to actually get good at the game yet she didn't care and started yelling at me and made me take all my consoles in the basement and made me uninstall all my games on my pc and now the only thing I have to do is watch tv and do homework.
