Im 19 and I go see my boyfriend whenever I can because he works all the time. My dad is the one who takes me to go see him because I cant drive that well yet. My boyfriend can drive, but he doesnt have his license yet. My dad is such an asshole about taking me and picking me up! He is like that even when I ask him to take me to my friends house! He wants them to pick me up and bring me back home! Yet, when they want to come over he wants them to get dropped of and picked up! My friends parents always have to pick me up and drop me off, yet my dad never does the same for them!!! Not even me! Honestly do you think my dad is an asshole?

Question: My mom threatened to beat me, should I tell the authorities?

I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but please keep in mind that my mother's side of the family suffers from a wide range of mental disorders, and while my mom herself has never been diagnosed with any, she still has to take pills for anger management. Anyway, a few nights ago, I had gotten sick and my mom thought I was faking it so that I wouldn't have to go out with her and her friends. She yelled at me to get dressed in jeans and a coat and I told her that it felt too hot to wear that (I actually started crying because of how hot it felt). Then my mom told me that if I didn't get dressed, she was going to beat me. A little while later, she realized that I actually was sick and she let me stay home, so she obviously only threatened me. She does this often and I take her threats seriously, as she's beaten my siblings and I before, not to mention that she's been arrested 11 times for assault. My friend told me that I should tell an authority figure, but I'm not sure if they'll do anything about it.

My entire family is spending the Christmas and New Year's holiday together. My mother is getting older, in her late 50s, and has become abusive in the past couple of years. I am 29 years old and on several occasions she has slapped me, beat me with a bible, and shook me, in addition to being emotionally abusive. She is extremely strict with me and feels that children must respect their parents as it says in the bible, no matter what. She is a completely different person (normal) with every other person in the family and the rest of the world. To keep peace in the family, I have to be present at family events but how can I prevent my mother from ruining the holidays for me. I try to keep my distance but she insists on constantly being around me so that she can "teach me how to be a better person."

I'm 16 and I plan on going to college soon, but the thing is I want to go to live with my dad and study at a college near him despite not knowing anyone there but it is a fresh start for me. I hate my current town as I have very little friends who never like to go and do things like normal people, none of the colleges around my area are going to benefit me as after I finish school I dont want anything to do with anyone in my year again and none of the courses appeal to me. I dont know how I can tell my mum about my choices without hurting her.

I was once 18. My year long gf had to leave to college far away. We didn't break up until she was 3 months deep into college then she broke up with me. Then out of nowhere a year later she tried to get back into my life. We went on a date after a year break up. On this date i asked her if she dated anyone? she said "nothing serious". Since we never had sex and since she said she was a virgin i was curious to ask a personal question. I asked how far she gone in the dates? in the most nicest way. I am 21 and my sister is 19. Yesterday I gave her her wrapped Christmas gift and she proceeded to throw it at me. I the hmm unwrap it for her and she asks to see the gift. I said only if you don't throw it and she said"we'll see". She then looks at my gift and then throws it at me. Later I am talking to dad saying if she doesn't want he gift I will give it to a friend. She was brushing her teeth and was rinsing her mouth with water. She comes to me and spits the water in my face and eyes. My sister has anger issues, from slamming doors to throwing a book at me. I'm not sure how to handle this.

So I have two sisters. The older sister has a step-son with autism who she has adopted. The child's mother is a drug addict and not in his life. That sister is 36. My 23 year old sister was annoyed with the autistic nephew of ours and would not come to dinner for Christmas last night (though she came to the big Christmas Eve) cause she said she didn't like being around the nephew and complained that our older sister didn't go to a hotel (they stayed with our parents). To me that is so mean of the younger sister to judge a kid cause he is autistic. The younger sister is a narcissist and I'd far rather be with someone autistic then someone with narcissism. Yet, it is not my child that the sister is insulting so should I just not care? Am I over-reacting?

Im a 16 year old Junior in high school. I have been having problems with my mother since about 4th-5th grade. She can be very verbally abusive. I have been told before that I am worthless in every way possible and that I am the reason that her life is stressful. I give you example of what she did the other day. I came from school because I got in trouble from skipping 1 class and when I came home she grab and threw me on the ground and took her feet and step on my head and call me every name that makes you worthless as a human being. No matter how small the mistake, even if I didn't do a mistake, she still calls me stupid, a dog and a idiot and a dumb excuse for a boy at times. She hits me usually with anything that she can find first-- Brooms,sticks, belts, etc, but now they don't hurt as much because i'm broader and a little bulkier. She screams instead of speaking at a normal voice all the time. She has also told me before how she wishes she had a little girl instead of me (i'm a boy) and she goes on about my flaws, and when I tell her that I didn't exactly wish for her as a mother, she told me that she didn't wish for me as a child either and at one point told me that she wished I should have kill myself and wish I was never born. I know she provides me food, shelter etc but If you don't show love to your own son? How am I suppose show you love and respect back? Everyday I'm depressed and I can't leave my room beside going to school. I don't what to do right now

I have depression and social anxiety, I cannot afford psychological help, and my parents don't understand this mental illness. Second, I have no friends and family members. I lost my best friend years ago because I couldn't afford to travel to see her. The only family I have live far away so I never see them. Third, my family and I are facing financial issues. My mom works 3 jobs everyday, barely sleeps, and is even losing her memory because of this. My dad works 1 job but he is extremely negative about his life and our situation. He always complains about everything. Fourth, my mom's siblings and friends make fun of me all the time just because I don't fit into their "perfect" family. They are skinny while I am chubby, they have colored eyes while I have brown eyes. They have straight hair while I have frizzy curly hair, they don't wear glasses while I do. They are all atheletes while I'm more into theater and dancing and writing stories (Even though I can't afford to do these things) but that's something they find very lame and useless. They always critizicze me because I don't want to have kids, because I've never had a boyfriend, because I haven't had my first kiss, because I want to become a teacher while their children and my brother want to become doctors and lawyers and business people. I'm 20 and I know I have a life ahead of me but I don't see the point of living it if my whole life I'm going to be criticized and rejected.

a few months back ex boyfriend said it wouldn't work with us again and he wouldn't let him self have feelings when i texted him after 2 months of being broken up. I gave him a dirty look whenever I saw him staring. It's been 3 months he's always staring at me in church. One day as he saw me as he was walking past he smiled then said hi i did too. The following week i looked up saw him looking he smiled and i smiled back. by the way he also fidgets with his hair, watch, touches his face when I'm around. To explain his body language i don't get why he's not making a move.. What he meant is we were fighting he insulted my moms clothing saying she dressed like from the club and i said his mom came form the stable and he doesn't buy her any clothes. Christmas was not bad but disappointing. My Mom would not let me see my Dad like I had feared. I felt sad all afternoon about it though enjoyed my morning and for the most part my evening at my grandparents. We had a great Christmas Eve. So my grandma and grandpa sleep in one room. My aunt sleeps in the other. And me my mom and my stepdad have to sleep in the living room. Which sucks becuase they both snore. I have no friends. 2yrs ago now my husband convinced me to move down south where he is originally from. Ever since we have been here I hate it. I don t like the culture or the racial divide. The older population is lovely but I haven t found anyone in our age range that I enjoy being around. The worst part of this situation is that I cannot stand his family. They are very different from me. I enjoy learning, deep conversation, art, literature, world travel, healthy eating, green living, etc. All of which are very low on there spectrum of importance. I really don t enjoy the way his cousins raise their children (who are the same age as my son). They live off the system and their idea of parenting is spanking and screaming at their kids at the top of their lungs. The kids are always bad behaved but I don t blame them for it. They have no polite social skills and always fight with my son. One of them actually bit him last Christmas and everyone brushed it off like it happens all the time. I am still floored my husband is related to these people. He is so intelligent, polite and just so well rounded. I just don t know what to do. My husband doesn t want to move so I have been grinning and bearing for 2yrs. But I m just lost. I dread holidays and birthdays and all the family events I used to love because I know I m going to be forced to be around his family in one of their dirty animal infested homes full of people screaming at barking dogs and untamed children.

im 17 and my brother is 16, my brother is allowed to do everything. He goes out everynight, he smokes and his grades are bad. I only go out like once a week I don't smoke or drink. My parents ask me to take care of my younger siblings and to do my chores, I don't have a problem with that, but why does my brother get to go out and have fun while im at home doing chores? He also has a gf which my parents know about and they like her. But i am not allowed to have a boyfriend. They say that when ill get married im the one who's going to be cooking and cleaning and that's why my brother doesn't have to do all that. they also say that they don't want me to get hurt and that's why they don't want me to go out. They also take my phone away every night or when i forget to do my chores. I don t know what to do about my insane sister. Every time she tries contacting with me she starts stuff. She loves spreading roamers about me on facebook and anywhere on the internet. Apparently her father, through not my father, she is my half-sister, and his parents said a girl should start shaving and dieting after she becomes 10. We were not really raised together (she'd come over for Christmas etc.) and she is 12 years older than me. If she were not my sister I would never, in a million years, go anywhere near her. I have never met a person with a worse personality than hers. All my life I've tried to be kind to her, I've never said anything mean to her, always agreed with her (because I'm scared to disagree), allowed her to pick at my vulnerabilities. And anyway she seems to resent that I was ever born. She's just so full of hatred towards everyone. I dislike her personality and I really don't think I love her. To be honest I wish that I never had to see her again (although I wish her well in her own, separate, life). My dad always thinks that he is right . What he does or what he says , he is just so right everytime . He hits me over small and stupid reasons. I couldnt get the table of 4 right when I was 5 years old , he slapped me hard. One time i was giggling and laughing with my sister while he told us to study we were studying but we were laughing a little as well . He came slapped both of us . Once when I was 7 ,me and my friends were playing with colours. I screamed a little because my friends spill the colour on the wall . He slapped me . In grade 8th , 13 year . He told me to get out of bed go to tution . I was sleepy . I checked the clock but there were still 15 mins to my alarm so i just lay down but was awake , he got up took a stick started beating me. I said ok but that is how I write . He slapped me . He cannot stand that I dont agree to his opinion . He wants me to be beneath him always . Agree and accept everything he says or does. I went to my moms house for Christmas. It was great. Melancholy too as the family really dwindled as its now just me mom and my brother. Bro lives with mom. I live 2 miles away. He and I had our bouts. Haven't had a real fist fight in ages so up until last September we only been more verbal. He would be verbally abusive and provoking. Over the summer one time he tried to threaten me with a knife. He didn't come near me with it as I got a lamp to fend off. I was scared. Not because my life may have been in danger but scared because I'm thinking my brother wants me dead. When I was leaving after visiting on Christmas, we talked. He mentioned the knife incident and he said he was angry and not in his right mind. Think its guilt? We spoke of taking things for granted. It was a good talk. I don't hate my brother like I used to because I know he abs my mom are all I have. I'm not perfect. When I was little I bluffed with a knife. Didn't charge or anything. I was visiting my aunt at around 9-10 years old. I was showering when she came in uninvited and requested to help me shower. I thought it was odd, and unusual for her to ask so. My parents hadn t helped me shower since I was at around 5. But I just shrugged, uncomfortable and silent. She rapidly and violently washed my body, and then she got to my private part. My mom got married, I was away at one of the best schools in the country, and my older sister took over my mom's old place with her boyfriend, while my mom is on the lease (and none of them living there are on it). When I came home for winter break from college, my sister made it a huge deal that I pay 1/3 rent to live there when I clearly had no job yet. I was trying to get away from a lot of yelling/arguing. Long story short, recently some random foreign cousin came to the United States and is living with my sister for free. My sister also even offered to help her find a job, but not me. I blew up on my mom because of this, because it is absolutely ridiculous that it was a huge deal for 1 year that I was not making money. My friends think it is screwed up, particularly because my sister lived without paying rent until she was 26. They call me entitled, when NO ONE ELSE THINKS THESE THINGS ABOUT ME. I think this is jealousy that I got away for college, while my mom and sister manipulate their boyfriends about me. They have tried to make my life very difficult (particularly while living with my mom). They have made it pretty clear they do not like me and want to screw me. I also made it clear I do not know anyone that thinks I am entitled or that dislikes mer. I am now visiting home for winter break, and it is bringing up a lot of bad emotions in me because I really do not want to be nice to any of them when they are cruel. I also am working hard to get a job and be on my own, but I do not know what to do in the meantime.

My life with my dad growing up wasn't the best he was an alcoholic and drug user. He was abusive towards my mom and I was too scared to consider him anything other than the person I shouldn't upset. I never cried in front of him I never talked about feelings since he would get mad at the littlest things. He passed away when I was 10 and I never really socially recovered from what he ingrained which was no friends, don't look don't talk don't touch boys. I had never held a decent conversation until 2 years after my dads death. I had male companions such as my brothers but they had their own kids. I never knew what having a dad meant and I wish i knew. As I grew up I noticed I would always look for males attention be it old men or my age I was trying to get them to notice me. I would feel disgusted with myself after but I can't help this weird gap that's missing. I have bad social skills and can't seem to make friends to talk with this about. Do I have daddy issues as I've heard it being said around school but never really knew what it meant

I'm a preteen and I'm 4'7". My doctor says the taller I'll ever be is 5'4". My older brother is 15 and goes to his friends house, walks with them to places after school, and shops alone. I asked my mom if I could do that when I'm 15. She said when your as tall as him. My brother is 6'1". She said I could easily be abducted by a stranger because I'm tiny, dumb, and naive. Also, I asked why my brother could go and I couldn't. She answered, "because you're a girl". Oh ok. Like my mom isn't a girl. I guess she can't go outside alone! PFFFTTT!! Pls help me. I want freedom but because of the way I was born, I have dumb restrictions and rules.

Question: Would you have hard feelings towards your mother for not pursuing action against a sexual abuser when you were younger?

In highschool, if you were 16 yrs old and you were inappropriately groped by another student, would you hold your mother accountable for NOT taking action? I am 32 years old now , this happened to me when I was 16 . I still have emotional issues due to the repeated incidents. When I was a young age , my father was deceased, which is why he had not input in this whole thing.

So, my mom stays up late with me because the last two months in school have been stressful, but now we on Christmas break and I'm still doing projects and homework!, but anyway my dad goes to bed like at 9PM so last night I heard him talking bout him and my mom don't have sex often and them having sex do not bother me because that's there business. I hear them every time they have sex, and they have sex like at 9 or 8, do they really think I be sleep? But should I go to a cousin house for a few days for they can have some alone time? Because they don't know I know they having problems, but I know. But do they really think I'm stupid I have a girlfriend we don't go to sleep till like 3 AM we be on FaceTime, did they really think I wasn't gone hear them talking bout having sex? -_-

I know that according to him, his birth mother was literally crazy and should have been institutionalized, so maybe that's why (mommy issues). My mom is crazy and he stays completely silent. When my mom and I argue, it's clear that the arguments she makes to me are completely inappropriate and ridiculous. She needs to see a therapist but never does. He probably has issues himself, correct? He does not confront her at all and seems submissive to her.

My mother likes to get drunk every night. She s a very caring, loving parent when she s sober, but when she starts getting drunk, it s like all she cares about is her next drink. When she s like this, it s common for her to stay up very late talking with her friends on the phone so loud that I can hear her clearly from my room. I m very worried about her and seeing her all drunk and stupid makes me feel sick to my stomach. Whenever I try and confront her about it, though, she always gets mad and yells at me. Is my mother an alcoholic? What should I do about this?

My family is divorced, and my trip to see the parent I don't live with was cancelled due to a health issue. Then they send me emails saying they loved me and were proud and that they would make it up. From the way everything was phrased I'm worried I will never see them again, that they are dieing. What do I do? He has been actin weird.

I moved in with my mom 2 years ago and that's when I first met my step dad. I'm an awkward person so it hasn't been the easiest to make a relationship with him but I've been trying. He works away from home and is gone several months a year( most of the year). If I text him he won't text back but he texts my little brother (his biological son) all the time. He also tells my mom and little brother he loves them but won't say it to me. When I think about it I get depressed because I badly want a relationship with him but it's not going to happen. I have little to no contact with my real dad and it just sucks not having a father figure in my life. The only time he does talk to me is when my mom is around and if she's not around he'll walk away from me or just ignore me. It just really freaking sucks because I move out in a year for college and I know after I move out I'll probably talk to him once a year at Christmas and that's it.

i havent chatted with any of my family members or seen them since 2014. I was bullied by them as a child/teen My mom treated me differently. My brothers always wanted to fight me and bullied me. My sister one time threw my clothes outside of her house senior yr of H.S. my siblings sat there and watch.i graduated college and getting ready to publish my first book. I thought maybe they were jealous since they did finish high school. My sister contacted me and denied everything. Called me a liar. I told her the door is closed. Do you think i am wrong for shutting the door on them?

This doesn't apply to everyone, but a lot of people who were "popular" and had advanced social skills during childhood seem to be middle or youngest kids. Firstborn children and only children seem more likely to be quieter, more serious, and less likely to follow the crowd.

She won't let me get another job and I'm absolutely miserable at the one I'm at and doesn't care. I never get to watch what I want, she won't drop me off anywhere or let me move out and I'm 28. She thinks the only way I'll get anywhere is if I stick it out with this job training I'm not getting. Plus she has to approve everyone I date or try to be friends with. I'm not disabled or anything. My sister lives with her boyfriend and gets to do whatever she wants to. It's not fair. It makes me extremely depressed and she doesn't care, because she tells me to suck it up. What do I do?
