I've spent the last 5 years parenting my son without her help. Her idea of marriage is making money and being left alone by both of our children and me. Prior to her being a working mother she was a smothering mother who gave my son more attention than she ever gave me. They would cuddle on the couch and she would read him stories in bed and they would do crafts together and basically they were best friends. But then my wife was required to pay back all of her student loan debt and stop being a drain on the Family so she got a job and ever since then my son has been depressed because he feels abandoned by her. I've tried to help him find ways to compensate for this loss without drugs or alcohol or anything that is toxic but I can't be there forever because I work as well. I've tried to be supportive and guide him in a good direction but I couldn't do it and now he's in extensive therapy for suicidal thoughts. The why is my wife so confused by this diagnosis? If she knew anything about him she would know that her high expectations of him achieving school without any emotional attachment was abusive then she would understand that this is the consequences of her behavior. I just read that if you're married, and your spouse goes into sudden massive debt...that's your debt too. Like, your spouse can just run off to Vegas and get thousands of dollars in debt, and it would be your debt too. Or any other number of variations where this could go terribly wrong.
